They're thieves

During my time as a street fundraiser i didn't want to believe they were dodgy because i believed they were a legit company and people were just paranoid because of the other illegitimate charities out there. I now know for a fact that they are one of them. The day i found this out, i was working for them somewhere in North London. I had no money in my account but i was assured that they would pay me the money they owed me sometime that day, so i carried on fundraising in the hopes that by lunchtime i would have money to eat. I checked my account around 1pm but there was no sign of the payment. I carried on however thinking that its running a little late. By 3pm i couldn't take the hunger or dry mouth so i said to myself, 'let me hit my target of ยฃ70 and then leave so i can eat'. I counted every donation over 50p and when i was confident i was over ยฃ70 i left, took the bucket back to the office and went home to eat. The next day, they had told me that i had only made ยฃ67 and immediately knew that was bulls*** because i made sure i didn't leave until i counted ยฃ70 I even stayed for an extra couple of pounds to make sure in case i miscounted. I had finally figured out their plan. The payment structure works like this: <ยฃ70 = 40% of the bucket ยฃ70-ยฃ80 = Minimum wage (ยฃ6.31 per hour) >ยฃ80 = Minimum wage plus 35% of what you make over ยฃ80. For example, if you raise ยฃ100 you get minimum wage plus 35% of ยฃ20. However, if you hover on the border of one of these, they will tell you have made less than you actually did. This way they don't have to pay you as much and get to keep the excess for themselves. Most of their fundraisers are young people as well who don't know any better so not only the public is getting exploited but these students aswell

Shanti International Charity London Scam

I would like to explain my experience with Shanti-International to in the hope that I help you make the right decision with them. I had decided after many years working in the corporate world that I needed a change and wanted to have a fresh start doing something worth while in the world. I decdied to work for a charity organisation and choose Shanti-International. I went on gumtree and came accross an organisation called Shanti International charity in london and they were looking for event managers. I had alot of experience with events and knew that I could deliver high revenue with my skill set. I sent them my CV and I called and was offered an interview in the office in Manor Way, in London. The day came for the interview and I put all my papers together. I was a little nervous, because I had given many interviews over the years, but never had an interview for many years. Nevertheless, I felt prepared. I got to the office and it was above a school. I met the manager Sean and sat down with him. He explained to me about the cause and I explained about my passion to help the cause. It was a nice conversation and I left feeling quite good. The following day I recieved and email telling me that I got the job. I was really happy and thought to myself, 'it would be a really good opportunity to work for this cause and make a difference and make money doing so.' So I then called the manager and he explained that he wanted a brief off me of what I would do to set up, launch and market the event. I explained that it would take me a few days, but sure and I would be more than happy to do this. I researchd all my methodologies and created a system where we would maximise profit on a corporate/celebrity speaker event and afterparty. It took me about four days to perfect it. But I got it done. I sent it over to the manager and he said he would look over it. The following day he explained that it was perfect and just what he needed. I was happy and explained that I needed ยฃ1,295 for the marketing budget. He said that would be fine. So I negociated with a large enough venue for the event and went to hotels and after party venues and built up links and dates. I contacted business event leaders and other associates who could make the event possible. I contact my media contacts and arranged to hire a celebrity press release. Then the problems started. My manager, I found kept asking me the same questions over and over again. I didnt just explain to him, I also included him in every relevent email which outlined everything. Yet he kept asking me that same questions? I found this quite difficult as I really am not use to explaining myself several times on the same subject. Alarm bells started ringing and I asked him, if he was OK and is their anything I should knowabout as this behaiviour was quite alient to me? He explained that he was just busy and to continue. I thought well, it must just be me. The day came for pay the press release and I sent him a paypal link. He then explained that I have got to go to the office and sign some forms? I said, well that is reasonable...So I travelled back up to london on Mothers day to sign some forms. Applogiesed to my mother but explained I had to go. When I got their, I met with the manager Sean and he sat down with me and asked me to explain everything again, which I did. He then said I am happy with that I will transfer the funds over first thing. I said great! I waited and then asked him for the forms he wanted me to sign. He explained....that I dont need to sign any forms? he would send me terms and conditions via the post? I thought, is this a joke? I got up to leave and explained to him that I thought I had to sign something...as It didnt make sense to me why I just travelled half way around the country to have the same conversation I have had and emailed for weeks. He re-assured that everything was fine and it would be transfered first thing the following day. I got in the car and knew their was something not right with this guy. I sent him a heart felt text thanking him for believing in me and saying thank you, although I was really annoid!.... That night I recieved a text explaining to me that the manager Sean would be speaking to the trustees in the morning 9.30 and the funds would be imedietly transfered. The day before when I asked him, he explained that they done what he told them to do? So I sent everyone concerned an email saying sorry about the wait and we can get moving monday and give everyone a timeline of how I wanted it all to work leading up to distribution of the press release. I convinced myself that it would be fine. Monday came and 12pm came, no response from the charity or Sean Rooney. I knew this was it. I tried calling his mobile he completly ignored me and the office did the same, telling me he wasnt their. I was so mad. I later on that day recieved an email from him saying that they needed to know what the company was I was dealling with and why it was going into my account. What a joke! I have told him which company I was using, I had sent him emails to and from the company. The company was even mentioned in the brief that was on the actual email he replied to me on. And to top it off, it was his idea for the money to go into my account as I explained to him in detail why he should pay directly from the charity??? Sean Rooney is a complete ***. I missed both my sisters birthday and mothers day having the run around by him. I never recieved a penny back for the money I lost travelling and expenses. And to top it off he never paid me anything. All this, becuase I believed in Him and his cause. All this because I wanted to give back and do something good. I have now also found out that this cause is a bogus cause and please read the reviews and peoples experiences on Shanti International before thinking of donating to them and please dont work for them. If you do, after reading my experience, then more fool you.

Wow, I cannot believe these two comments! :(

I am very sorry about your experiences with Shanti International!

I hope you have not given up on Non-profit organizations or your passion. You may be aware by now, but http://www.idealist.org is a leading NGO site with listings around the world of charity organizations.

I was just about to call Shanti Int. for a job offer, but something did not seem right from the information they provided online.

I didn't see specific information regarding sustainable impact in peoples lives. They seemed too vague as to how they helped, and their 'unlimited' profile did not match their programs. Neither did I see any names or local organizations associated with Shanti.

I decided to look for reviews, and I am very grateful that you all took the time to share your experiences.

Good Look to all of you in the future!

I totally agree with you mate! They are 100% ***!

I was working for them for 3 months, never received any salary! They promised to pay me 7 pounds per hour, never got anything! All they do is they cheat people and then ignore them.

There is, especially, a guy named Polo who is dodgy inside out. This company should be reported to police and they should be arrested as they are genuinely fraud organization!
