Never got paid, then store closed
I consigned an item at the Huntington, NY store. It was sold, and then a week later I saw the store was closing.
I went into the store to get my check, and they told me that since the store was closing, I would be paid by "corporate". The store then closed. I checked my account, and a check was cut, but I never received it. I have tried to call numerous times, and left at least 3 messages.
I also sent emails. I have not received any responses or my money.
Consignment shop rip-off
It's not safe to leave your good clothes at Second Time Around, especially at their consignment store in Philadelphia. Thieves abound. And the store won't pay you for what's stolen.
I dropped off a number of items three months ago and signed a contract that evidently relieved them of all liability. No one said to my face that if something of mine was stolen, I would not be paid for it. Coincidentally, the three most expensive items I left were all stolen.
I complained to the manager and sent an email to their headquarters (they have shops in a number of cities). The answer I received today from the Philadelphia store was "sorry about that." They have no intention of paying me anything for what was lost.
I just want other consumers to beware of this store. If their clothes are high end, there's a good possibility shoplifters will pick them off the racks. It would be better to give those clothes to friends or relatives.

is anyone having problems getting paid for consignment items? I haven't received my feb payment yet and the company keeps giving me a run around
The same thing happened to me! I lost one expensive skirt I had never even worn and a pair of Italian boots. I would never go into that store again.
I consigned an expensive Bottega Veneta bag at the Scarsdale, NY Second Time Around. When I returned within the consignment period to pick it up, I was told that it had been donated.
The store manager said that on the contract it is stated that if the manager decides later that a consigned item is "unacceptable", you have to come and pick it up. She claimed that she telephoned me several times, leaving messages. I never received them, nor did they email me. When I left the bag for consignment, along with other clothes, it was deemed acceptable at that time.
The bag was the most expensive item and it was in perfect condition. I am quite sure that the bag was confiscated by the store.
If their policy about stolen clothing was written on the contract, they were not obliged to verbally mention it as it is perfectly logical that you would read the contract before signing it; your signature equals agreement.
