I dont recommend Stealmasters for several reasons. Taran, the owner, is quick to respond to you at first as a potential client, but after doing business with him, hes too busy to answer any phone calls or texts in an appropriate time frame. After the sealing was complete, the streaks never went away. That I could accept. One week later, white streaks were showing, as my neighbour noticed. Taran, the owner, responded that it was embarrassing and he would reschedule for another coat. The rescheduling never happened as he was complaining it wasnt worth his time and the gas money involved. I, being rational and gracious stated that I would cover the gas costs. It wasnt enough. I gave him so many opportunities to fix this and he didnt care. Save your money and find a professional company. In addition, the exact sealer they use can be purchased at Home Depot for 26 dollars for a large can.

They Don't Deliver What they Say! Not as Advertised.

An assistant visited from a neighbor's property, asking if I wanted my driveway done. I asked what the service was and the price. The owner of United Contracting, Donny Costello, returned with 2 pieces of literature re: SealMaster Coal Tar Pavement Sealer to read. I was able to make a copy. I asked what the price was and then followed with what a cash price would be which was quoted lower. Having a need to resurface our driveway, I immediately discussed with my husband and gave him the go ahead. SealMaster Coal Tar was originally applied 9.27.22. Later that day, it was not to my satisfaction; so owner, Donny Costello, asked me to send pictures of what I was not satisfied with. I sent 8-10 pictures, via text, of white tips showing through the black sealant and he said he would reapply a "flashcoat". THREE FOLLOW-UP APPOINTMENTS WERE MADE & BROKEN! - 10-10-22 appointment was between noon and 1 PM. Donny was a NO SHOW! He then rescheduled the next day. - 10-11-22 appointment was between 1 and 2 PM. Again, that didn't happen! Again, scheduled the next day - 10-12-22 appointment was no specific time. Each time I asked when he would be arriving and he simply just scheduled for the following day. On the third day I was asked for our address. That was promptly sent at 1:06 PM via text. No response and NO SHOW, again. I asked why. Donny said he never got the address that was texted. He asked for a Screenshot of that message. I have never had my integrity questioned! I followed with 3 screen shots, which he finally said he received one. Although he was "nearby" today and we had an all day appointment, he never visited. I had blown the leaves and debris off the driveway on Monday, fully expecting his arrival that day, the following day and again today. None of the 3 appointments were kept!

  • 3 broken appointments the lack of product applied

Preferred solution: A second application as promised.

User's recommendation: Pay with a check or credit card so you could cancel payment or originate a billing dispute if dissatisfied or service was not as expected.

I would like to update the follow up from SealMaster and Donny Costello. He finally sprayed the second coat today, as stated he would do days ago.

My original rating yielded 1.2; since he finally provided a second coat, I would like to raise that to a 3. A lot of frustration but Donny finally did as he stated he would do.

Resolved: Disappointed the cracks were not filled better so water would not get down, freeze and expand.

They came out and applied a 2nd coat, called a "flash coat".

It's a different product that I'm used to, being cold, so the fluid doesn't fill cracks as well. I think the spray wand was moved to quickly as I have large areas that do not have solid coverage. I personally don't care about the color being blacker!!Ask

Preferred solution: Return to overspray a second time as the brochure explains!

User's recommendation: Ask questions and request another spray or manual spreading.

COAL TAR SEALANTS I read both brochures Donny, (SealMaster). showed me to sell the job as he was doing the neighbor's driveway.

The FSA, Fast Sealing Additive, cures the product quickly. I reviewed Application Tips with Donny which state, "Fog spraying is highly recommended in hot ambient temperatures to facilitate coverage..." (as 9.21.22 was) and "A second coat can be applied as soon as the first coat will take traffic without scuffing. After the 2nd coat, test for trafficability before opening the pavement for regular use." Donny was initially at a neighbor's property and DID NOT do a 2nd coat at either location. We paid cash so there was no check to stop payment, nor a credit card statement to dispute the quality of the service/billing.

When I called the 800 # from Google, the manufacturer said the driveway should have a 2nd coat. I sent pictures to Donny showing small tips of white on my black macadam driveway, indicating none of the tips were coated in the spray process. Additionally, cracks still had sections of old dirt, weeds, etc. not pulled or covered in black coal tar.

He agreed to come out to blow driveway clean of leaves, dirt, seeds, etc. & spray a 2nd coat 9.24.22. Further research reveals the sealant contains toxic compounds known as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, or PAHs. Some cities have banned the sale and use of the product which is toxic to fish & other sea life.

"The toxic dust from coal-tar based sealcoat doesn't stay put. It seeps into water, evaporates into air and gets tracked into people's homes." More than 200 types of PAH compounds are found in coal tar pitch, and at least 7 types of PAHs are classified by the EPA as probably human carcinogens. Cancers linked to PAH exposure: - lung cancer - skin cancer - bladder cancer - gastrointestinal cancer Source: Illinois Dept. of Public Health Cities, counties and states that have banned the use of coal bar- based sealants include: - Austin, Texas - Dane County Wisconsin - DC - Minnesota - Montgomery Co, Maryland - Prince George's County, Maryland - Suffolk Co, NY - Washington state Litigation also includes the cost of removal & clean up of the product.

"Asphalt-based sealants are much more environmentally friendly than coal tar-based sealants.

The levels of PAH in asphalt products are up to 1,000 times lower. Other alternatives with minimal levels of PAH include acrylic sealants and gravel parking lots." Article written by Amy Keller, RN last modified August 18, 2021

Bad job

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I made an appointment with Geno Gillette but on the day of the appt, rain was forecast and I told him not to do the drive. He insisted that it would be dry before it rained and the job was guaranteed and he started working on it anyway. He finished before the rain but 5 minutes after he left, the rain came down. Spots opened up and sand came out. I called but the number was out of service. I e-mailed but got no response. This was a long time ago(2013) but I haven't forgotten it. I was busy caring for my ailing spouse so never filed a lawsuit. If I ever run into Mr. George or Gillette, I will take great pleasure in telling them what I think of them. What goes around, comes around. theitheir

My husbands eyes are really bad hes about blind in one eye. I had 2 degree burns to my face and neck which I have scaring from now. The owner will not do anything about this. The insurance company that they have says there not responable for our injuries. We have obtained an attorney on this.

Pattern concrete sealing Totonto, The Seal Master

Sealmaster has two numbers one for Vaughn and one for Mississauga. In their quote they mentioned that they put two coats of selaent and that it restores the look of the concrete. I called them to seal my concrete driveway, they came and did the sealing but on the day itself I was suspecious whether the second coat was put or not. A week later sealent is washed out in several places and I can see several dry spots on the driveway. I called them to take a look at the issue and not only do they refuse to come and see the issue insisting that the job was done properly but Cam(name of the person I spoke to) also hung up on me. Be warned if you think you can trust this companys claims. The advertising is misleading, the attitude when you speak to them leaves a bad taste and the work shoddy.
