It could be one of your biggest and most thought-out purchases – but now there may be even more to consider about buying a car.Peters travels regularly between Saskatchewan and Manitoba for work and was in the market for a car last year when he found a Hyundai Sante Fe with 9,000 kilometres on it at a dealership in Saskatoon."I looked at it. Everything looked fine. I asked him was there any information on it – paper work on it – any major repairs?" said Peters. "He said, ‘No,' there was nothing."Peters bought the car and drove it back to Winnipeg, but a few months later there was a problem."I'd start the car – I noticed a jolt – like it would jolt forward," said Peters. "I'm not a mechanic, but I thought, ‘This isn't good.' "Peters brought the car to a Hyundai dealership in Winnipeg. That's when he was told the car didn't have its original transmission. After a call to the Hyundai Warranty Division, Peters discovered the transmission had actually been replaced twice before it was sold to him."I was livid. I didn't know what to do. All these things were running through my mind," said Peters. "I was thinking, ‘This person lied to me.' "Earlier this year, Manitoba made a move to protect consumers in the market for used cars – it mandated that dealers in the province disclose everything about a vehicle's history."If there was something substantially wrong with it or a defect that the person is aware of, they do have the obligation to disclose that information," said Jan Forster of the Consumer Protection Bureau. But in Saskatchewan similar laws do not exist. Now, Peters can file a claim under the Canadian Vehicle Protection Plan, an arbitrator between manufacturers and customers. He can also lodge a complaint with Saskatchewan's Consumer Protection Branch. But for Peters, that's not enough. "They should have exposed that information to me prior to my purchase," Peters said.CTV contacted the general manager of Saskatoon Hyundai about Peters' situation but our requests for an interview were not returned.Peters said he has learned a lesson and may buy closer to home next time.

Saskatoon Hyundai - Terrible Service

AI Highlights
  • - Pushy, rushed service with upsell; they pressed for 'required' maintenance, warranty item: fixed, another mishandled with interior damage denied.

Service and Customer service are terrible. Extremely pushy with the upselling to the point where they get so busy they have to rush to fit all the upselling into their already fully scheduled day.

They tried to push me into doing a whole bunch of "required service" including full rad flush and brake fluid flush! On 2009 vehicle with 33,000 kms on it!! When I declined they tried to make me sign a box stating "customer refused required service". When I questioned them on it and showed them the maintenance plan in the book, and confirmed with Hyundai Canada, they backed off.

With regard to warranty, they fixed one straight forward issue under warranty with no problems. On a second issue that was clearly under warranty but intermittent problem, they made me feel like they were DOING ME A HUGE FAVOR rather than replacing a problematic item that is clearly under the stated warranty paid for with the vehicle. When they did the repair they did minor damage to the interior, then they denied it to Hyundai Canada and offered a cheap repair rather than replacing the part they damaged. I argued the point and then they refused to work on my vehicle ever again.

I now have to go outside the city to another dealer for service, repair, and warranty.

Hyundai Canada says it is all between me and the dealer and could not help. This dealer is not recommended if you expect a real warranty and good service

Yes, the truth is slowly coming out.. they tried to scam my wife when she took the Santa Fe in to repair stabilizer links under warranty.

They said there was nothing wrong, when the links were clearly so loose and shaky, it was a hazard. Still.... their line is Nothing wrong... to cheap to do the warranty repair...

OR... too incompetent. Had to scream at service mgr.

Now I get my servicing in another city now. Enough of these clowns.

Gotta agree on the up selling. Without using fear on consumers this dealership wouldn't stay afloat on just oil changes.

The work they have done has been ok for the most part. Overall as a dealer ship I would never buy another car from them again based on my experiences on the sales and service dept. But if you must buy a car from them don't take the first offer, or second offer, keep negotiating could save you a lot of money.

And also price out your car online and print it off for reference. Their prairie package is BS.
