Unnessasry vehicle repairs
BMW service department replaced the left rear tail assembly on my X5 vehicle at a cost of $556.60. This work was not necessary and therefore represents fraud. Sandia BMW service department only needed to replace a $4.00 bulb base as shown in the picture.
I was told the tail light is intermittent and the tail light assembly would eventually fail and the complete assembly should to be replaced now. Based on this verbal phone description I agreed and required they give me the parts removed.
An inspection of the picture shows the tail light assembly would in fact never fail as I was told. The burned contact on the bulb base was due to insufficient contact pressure between the flexible bulb contact and the sturdy light assembly metal housing.
Vehicle service departments cannot be trusted.
Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution
