Verified ReviewerCompany Is Decent, But...
No reason to raise rates like crazy. Here are a couple of excellent ideas I told the company with which reps agree, but they have not done it which makes me skeptical of them.
First and foremost, SDGE needs to have an awareness campaign informing customers that even if a device is turned off, it still uses energy if plugged in.
Customers should unplug all devices even if turned off. I do this and it cuts my bill in half (proven at company). Why won't SDGE tell everyone broadly about this using traditional and social media, NOT an insert in the bill. This savings can have major implications for the company's customers, industry and globe.
Regulators should be asking this question of them, instead of allowing frivolous price increases.
Also, SDGE should have the capability of notifying customers of which devices are using how much energy at a given point in time, so customers can make adjustments accordingly to reduce their bill. Seems like something that should already be done, but isn't. Why not?
Does SDGE make money based on more kilowatt usage? Is this why the company might be reluctant to do anything per the above to benefit the consumers, for whom they are licensed to serve?
Politicians, regulators, media, consumer advocates and others, there you go.
Now see what you can do and find some answers, please. Thank you.
- Gets the job done
- Should tell customers that unplugging off devices will save money
- All about profits and not the customers
- Does not provide necessary communication to customers
Preferred solution: Inform customers in conspicuous way that unplugging devices even when in the off position can significantly cut utility bill. Also, inform of which devices use the most energy and what times of day or night.

Verified ReviewerUnplug Your Devices When Not n Use And Cut Your Bill In Half
I was astonished at the high prices SDGE was charging, but then was told if I unplug my devices I could save big. I did not know that devices that are plugged in but not turned on still use energy!
Now I unplug all my devices when not in use, especially overnight, and my bill is cut in half. I plug them back in during the morning or next time I need them. The company probably does not want you to know this, but I am passing this advice along to you so you can save the money and not give it to this company. You will see what a difference it makes!
Why doesn't SDGE tell this to its customers in a big ad campaign? Regulators at CPUC, are you listening?
- Nice customer service people
- Prices are ridiculously high
- Industry should be investigated due to unnecessary price hikes
- Company does not tell you how to save money

Verified ReviewerPrices Way Too High - Where Is The Government On This???
Prices went up 18% in January! Never heard of such a thing!
Want to see consumer action groups and government step-in to curb this ridiculous ripoff, especially when inflation is relatively low.
Here is a money-saving tip: UNPLUG ALL YOUR DEVICES WHEN NOT IN USE! This can save big and help offset the absurd price increase.
I plan to get rid of SDGE soon, even if they are a monopoly; I have a better idea. File complaints with the attorney general, not the CPUC regulator overseeing SDGE because CPUC does nothing and in my opinion is corrupt.
- Some good reps who are good people in a bad company
- Needs competition
- Stop cheating customers to make up for incompetent decisions
- Egregious ripoff pricing
Preferred solution: Price reduction
User's recommendation: File Complaint With State Attorney General Over SDGE Ridiculous Price Increases

Verified ReviewerDropped calls and dysfunctional website
I have been trying to make a payment online and by phone. I tried yesterday and I tried this morning.
The calls keep being dropped. In other words, I am being hung up on before I even get to talk to anybody. Also, I am trying to pay with a credit card online and it is supposed to transfer me to another website to do this but it is an able to do so. I will not be penalized for something that I have sincerely tried to remedy.
I believe the due date for my bill is today. Ironically, I was prompted to do this by a scam or posing as SDGE. The scammer hung up after the recording, not allowing me to answer.
I, of course looked up the number and realized it was not the companies number, which prompted me to check and see if my new place of rent had a bill due. Coincidentally, my bill is due today, but I found out yesterday.
- No way to contact and pay company
Preferred solution: I just want to pay my bill, my first bill.
User's recommendation: This is my first dealing with the company. I just moved here to this part of California. I have no recommendation for or against.

Verified ReviewerI made a mistake.
I mistakenly thought that your website and phone number was damaged. Even though I was able to access some websites and numbers, I realized that my phone was the problem and not allowing me access to certain sites, as well as dropping many calls within seconds. I try to find a place within this site to correct my mistake but I couldnt find anything on this website that allowed me to do so, so I thought I would just post.
Preferred solution: No solution necessary. I realized I was the one with the faulty equipment, not them.
User's recommendation: I honestly don’t have an opinion yet because this is my first time to use San Diego gas and electric. I’ve only had the service for a month.
How can I pay my bill when you make it impossible for me to do it?
I try to log on website. I enter user name and password.
Fine. Then it wants to send a text to a phone # that I don’t have anymore making it impossible to get on. Call you say, right? Ok I have been trying to call for 2 STRAIGHT MONTHS and I can’t pay that way because it doesn’t tell me what my balance is.
It just asks how much am I paying? Ok, look at my statement. Well I can’t because I haven’t received a *** statement in 3 months. Call and talk to somebody.
Wow, never thought of that…oh wait.. I did and not once in 2 months, calling 3 -4 days a week, has the phone wait time been UNDER 1 hour. I waited one time and after nothing for well over an hour it just hung up on me. Talk about frustrating.
Jesus!
You can’t hire more people.?!! You charge enough.
Terminal hold on my business account
I am trying to find out how to add other accounts to "my account" business account. I have now been on hold several times for over 30 minutes by phone and today i have been on hold with live chat for 17 minutes as well. Glad I don't have an emergency.
User's recommendation: You will pay an outrageous amount for electricity and get little or no customer service unless you can do it on line.
