Shockingly Nasty

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

My 75 year old mother called to make an appointment; John Romani told her Friday or Sunday was available. She emailed him and told

Him Sunday.

When she called to ask what time he had free, he started literally screaming and yelling at her that he had several appointments already, we're in the middle of a pandemic, and no one is showing up for work. As if that wasn't bad enough, he then stated that if she expected this level of customer service (am appointment the next day), she should call someone else.

He is the rudest, most disgusting human being we have ever done business with and doesn't deserve to even have a business anymore. Wish I could give you zero stars for being worthless.

John Romani is a complete liar. Every word he has said on here is a total lie.

I am sorry that your mother is not happy but that is not what happened. Your mother emailed us at 9:38am on a Saturday morning and asked what time we could meet on Sunday.

At 3:00pm the same day she called me and started yelling at me that we did not respond to her email and that it was obnoxious that we didn't respond to her faster. I explained that we had a sale and that as soon as I got back to the office I would look at my schedule for Sunday and confirm a time. She said that was no good enough and that I needed to confirm a time to meet immediately, she accused me of not being responsive and of ignoring her. After a few minutes of her verbal abuse she continued to berate me and explain that I needed to give her a time to meet.

I again explained that we were at a sale and have been at a sale all day and had no time to respond to her email. I could not confirm a time to meet since I did not have my schedule for Sunday. I went out of our way to accommodate your Mother, I answered her emails and calls in a timely manner, I even tried to schedule an appointment on a Sunday in the middle of summer, during a pandemic, on a days notice but that was not good enough for her and she decided to berate me and accuse me of blowing her off.

Again, I am sorry she was not happy, I provided her with other resources, and explained that we are not going to be able to provide a level of service that she was going to need but she felt that belittling me was a better approach. We go out of our way to accommodate all customers and clients, we tried to schedule a Sunday appointment on short notice, we were polite and cordial but I will not be abused and accused of things that are just not true.

THAT IS A COMPLETE LIE!!!!! EVERYTHING YOU WROTE IS A COMPLETE LIE!!

How about you call me, Romani? I don't need to settle anything with you on here I don't need to prove anything to other people like you do. Be a man, pick up the phone and call me or better yet why don't you meet me in person and we can discuss this. I am not a coward like you are.

I am tired of you getting away with treating people like you do.

I will make it my business to expose you to everybody how dare you come on here and blatantly lie. You are disgusting.

Overpriced and rude, very poor customer service

everything is overpriced, no discounts for buying multiple items, any bit of junk is always at least $5. other sales generally give those items away if you're buying multiple items.

they are ignorant of what the items are, i.e. "that wood thing" to describe an antique stamp, but still want to charge $20 for it! an unfortunate combination of ignorance, no customer service, and greed. they hold sales for one day only, very few hours, end up with a house full of items, which later show up on their "shop" website at outrageous prices.

how anyone hires them is incomprehensible! they offer nothing to either the property owner or the sale customer.

Thank you for taking the time to review our company. While I understand that you are not happy with the prices, I can assure you that we have over 2,500 satisfied clients and even more satisfied customers.

While I will agree that our prices have risen over the years, the quality of the merchandise we sell has also improved. We routinely sell Theodore Alexander, Knoll, Maitland Smith, Henkel Harris, Baker and other high-end furniture and home decor. While the prices might seem astronomical to you, everything is priced fairly, and we routinely sell out our sales. As far as discounts, since we price our items at a fair price, we usually don’t need to discount the prices.

If you ask for a discount when the sale opens, we are usually going to say no, if you come back later in the day and we can discount the item then we will. As for you claim that we end up with a “house full of items” that simply is not the case. In most weeks we sell 80%-95% of the items in a home. You also claim that unsold items end up in our online store, that is also not the case.

The items listed in our online store are predominantly items from clients where we cannot conduct a sale. (condos, gated communities, individual items).

Prices are WAY TOO HIGH

When Helen started many years ago, she knew that the majority of her sales went to dealers. She routinely priced fairly and would always make deals on multiple items.

NOW her son runs the show. Totally different experience. They ask Antique store prices and really don't care if they sell to the dealers or not. Bottom line.......they buy the remaining inventory at vastly reduced prices (or at least much less deducting their commission), and then sell it on eBay themselves.

When you go an estate sale, you don't want to be told how much an item sells for on eBay. When you are at an estate sale, you are expecting a great price.

I only go to Helen's sales if it is VERY LOCAL and only on the last day. I can get my stuff MUCH Cheaper so many other places.

absolutely true! everything is overpriced compared to other local sales for example, $5 for a single pottery mug.

she is unpleasant and unfriendly, snide, supercilious and downright rude. she does not care if items sell or not, she's fine with having a house full of items at end of sale. she runs sales for one day, from 9:00am to 1:30pm.

i don't understand why anyone hires her. her clients are definitely losing out.

She is probably rude because you were ignorant to her. I don't know her personally but I have been to her sales and she is always nice to me. I also find her prices better than the other companies in the area, they are not flea market prices but the quality of the merchandise is consistently higher.

So she's just as rude as he is? Interesting.

So they are a terrible company because they try and get their clients the most money for items? I have never been to one of their sales but it sounds like they take their job seriously and are working hard to get fair market value for the stuff that they sell.

If that means they take it and sell it online for the client then good for them. It must be hard to make the clients and the customers happy.

I just want to add that even though the woman who was running the register was extremely rude to me, there was a young women on staff who was actually very kind and helpful.

Original review Nov 27, 2016

Just got back from an estate sale from Salesbyhelen. I was so pissed off the entire ride home.

They offer zero customer service. They had me bagging and packing my fragile items with no space to do so. My items were falling, and almost broke. They still did not assist me.

I had to have my elderly mother help me to wrap my expensive purchases while disgruntled customers were murmuring behind me because I was in their way. When I did ask the salesbyhelen staff for anything, I was met with indignation and indifference.

I hope to never do business with those people again. Terrible experience overall.

I have personally used Sales By Helen for a sale and have nothing but wonderful things to say! They showed up on time, went above and beyond to help in any way they could and made the whole experience much smoother then expected. I have enjoyed their services so much I now find myself frequenting their other sales!

Thanks Helen, John, Brad and the rest of your amazing crew!

Customer service

I actually had a similar customer service experience with them. I'm not going to write the entire details, or it would end up being an essay.

However, it did have to do with them calling me as we had agreed. I received no phone call (I was supposed to), which resulted in the sale of several items; we had made an informal deal for these items. I spoke to two of the people involved with this business and somehow their version of the story was completely different than reality. They basically sold the items because they made more money selling it to someone else than what we discussed.

Their excuse was they got busy. How busy can you be to dial ten numbers and say,"Hey, this is what I'm being offered." Calling me was actually what they agreed to do, but apparently they didn't want to exert with the effort. Bottom line, not good business.

And if this or anything else happens to you, don't expect a sincere apology. I hope they read this and the other negative review because there seems to be a pattern of ignorance.

Actually what happened was very simple. You came to a sale and wanted to purchase 2 pieces.

We gave you a price and you said you would think about it and left. In the meantime the pieces sold to someone else. You had your opportunity to buy the items but you left the sale.

Another buyer came in and bought the items . Not sure else we could have done to accommodate you.

No show for an appointment and no contact?!?!

Sales by Helen located near Philadelphia Pennsylvania may do a good job at estate sales but their customer service leaves a lot to be desired. Their representative opted to not show up for a pre-arranged appointment.

Not only did he not show up, he also did not bother to call, text or email to say that he was not coming.

If you are already dealing with the grief and chaos of a the death of a family member I'd suggest you move on and find another company to take care of your estate sales. It's a shame because they came to me highly recommended.

I am sorry that you are unhappy but that is not how it happened. You called our company and said that you wanted an appointment.

You said that you would contact us and give us your address so we could meet you. You never gave us your address, and never confirmed the appointment. When we called back your phone was not working.

(You later told me that your phone was broken). I returned your email immediately and tried to schedule another appointment but you had already left the state.
