Dissatisfied

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - I was unhappy with the service and final price.
  • - Pre-move communication was poor.
  • - Rigid start time; late arrival.
  • - Furniture damaged during move.

Not happy with the service, the communication line before the move, the rigid start time, the time they arrived, the way the furniture was handled causing damage, and the final price. I found the final price to be way too high. I would have appreciated better handling of the entire move, starting from when they arrived to the final price.

Preferred solution: Nothing. I just won't use these movers again or recommend to anyone else.

User's recommendation: DO NOT USE

Bad Experience

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - Did not arrive on the agreed time.
  • - Difficulty contacting after deposit; damaged furniture.
  • - Final price for the amount moved was ridiculous.

I would never, under any circumstance, use Safeway movers Hamilton again. Absolutely terrible for many reasons.

Did not arrive on agreed upon time. Difficulty contacting after deposit. Damaged furniture. Much too expensive.

One issue is the insensitivity to the cost, told in advance when the exchange of ownership would take place but did not matter to them. Final price, for the amount moved, was absolutely ridiculous.

User's recommendation: Do not use under any circumstance.

Bad price gouging

  • - They confirmed a price but charged extra boxing fees.
  • - Delivery calls are unreliable, items broken down, crew rude, subcontracting used.

Updated by user Feb 28, 2022

No contact by the company. I would like to update the location. Apparently there are other moving companies with the same name - Safeway - this the company with main offices in Chicago.

Original review Jan 25, 2022
In spite of a confirmed price we were charged additional money for a variety of items to break down and box that we were told not to do.
They constantly assured us we would receive a call the day before actually coming to get our items and delivering - we never did. Even with constant calls from us never knew when they would come for pick up or delivery.
The worst part was all the hidden fees.

They insisted on charging us to "box" a table with a plexiglass top. The ended up putting it in without a box but we were still charged. Lots of other "items needed broken down or boxed" which really didn't need it.
The massage chair was broken down into tiny parts and we were assured that the crew delivering would be able to put it back together. THEY DIDN'T EVEN TRY!!
We had to hire someone else to put it back together.
The table that they didn't box they said they could not put in the room we requested without taking it apart.

We were willing to pay to take it apart but they refused.
Boxes were crushed and thrown around.

The delivery crew was rude and unpleasant and made the whole delivery miserable.
They subcontract everything. I would highly advise everyone not to go with this company.

Was told once booked the forms are no longer needed!!! Never had a chance to print. I tried speaking to someone about getting them back...several phone calls..no luck!!

I was over charged!!!!! I tried to talk to someone but had absolutely no luck. Was told the street was too small for rig...but driver was able to get in just fine. I paid for a ahuttle which was never used!

I was told at pick up they needed my card front and back and my license front and back...move was from denver to pa..i was in pa so i was given an email address..which turned out to be wrong. Got a phone call from angry man demanding my info again,,it turned out the address was wrong with the man having no idea where my info went. I had to cancel my card and get a new one!

Resolved: Worst moving experience ever

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - There was a late arrival and a $1,500 overcharge.
  • - Damages over $3,000; third-party estimator used; only $70 offered.

Do not use safeway moving and storage as they are the biggest scam in moving. They arrived late, overcharged by 1500, didn't deliver my belongings on time (I had to contact the federal transport agency and an attorney to get a delivery date which still took nearly 3 weeks!), they use a third party estimator for damages to property while moving and after doing over 3,000 worth of damage to my belongings including computer, treadmill, expensive furniture, and priceless pottery they offered me $70.

I will leave a review anywhere I can to prevent this experience from happening to someone else, they are simply and hands down the worst company I've ever done business with!

I am having the same problem getting my belongings delivered. This company used a bait and switch on me, quoting me one price and charging another.

In my case it went from est. $4500.00 to over $7200.00. What can you do? They have my belongings and if I want them I have to Pay.

Real scam. I did contact the Illinois attorney General and made a formal complaint. I don’t know what good it will do!!! I also emailed a complaint to the company just to have it documented if I need it.

I am considering legal action. I will consult with my Lawer when the time comes. In my opinion I believe they are now in violation of the contract. Belongings picked up Oct 22 and as of today, Nov.

25th I don’t know where they are. When I was able to talk to someone I was told as per the contract that they had 21 days to deliver. Of course, when I contacted them 21 days later, I was told they don’t count weekends, than asked if they could deliver on Thanksgiving.

We agreed but of course we are still waiting. I SUGGEST THAT YOU DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!

Safeway resolved my issue.

Safeway Movers Terrible Experience

AI Highlights
  • - Damaged nearly every piece of furniture; some items had to be discarded.
  • - Charged about $3,000 over the original estimate; claimed movers are independent contractors.

In a nutshell...they damaged nearly every single piece of furniture they moved so badly that some items had to immediately be put out at the curb for the garbage. They charged $3,000.00 over what the original estimate was and their customer service people talk right over you and state that all movers are independent contractors and there's nothing they can do about that.

One of the movers insisted we buy dinner or they wouldn't be able to work properly and he tried to work a shifty deal of charging us less if we gave him extra money straight out. We didn't ***. To be fair, the guys on the other end were personable and tried to be helpful but it didn't make up for the baiting with a lower estimate and then charging another 3,000.00 after the entire household was loaded onto the truck nor did it make up for all the damaged furniture.

Definitely one of the most stressful and disappointing moves we've ever had. I would NEVER recommend Safeway Movers...it's anything but safe.

Cons:
  • Over charged and damaged goods delivered

Bad quality

Review in Transportation and Storage category from Indian Trail, North Carolina

AI Highlights
  • - Move booked with Homesafe to Myrtle Beach; subcontracted to Safeway.
  • - Harley not secured, price doubled after loading, and no delivery date.

Booked a move with Homesafe in May to be moved from Canton, OH to myrtle Beach, SC on June 9 and on June 8 was informed that it was being sub-contracted to a company named Safeway!! They showed up with a Penske truck, no boxes, and no way to secure a Harley Davidson motorcycle!!

I was then informed on the day after they loaded my belongings that the price for the move had doubled! It is now June 24 and no positive response for delivery!! This was definitely a "bait and switch" situation!! I have made repeated requests for a date for delivery and just this morning was talked to like an underling because I said my medication was on the truck!!

I am a senior citizen and this has upset me no end!! I just want my belongings and to rest a in peace!! THIS COMPANY IS ATROCIOUS, NASTY AND AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED THIEVES!!

Why would you keep other people's belongings?? I am at this point, upset with both of these companies!!

The same thing is happening with my mother. This "company" is cruel, unreliable, and nothing more than thieves.

Have you (or anyone reading this) actually received your belongings? Has anyone taken legal action?

A call to the Safeway office got a "we'll get there when we get there" response. Then Safeway was 3 days in in delivering their furniture in Fla.

They had to get blow up mattresses and sleep on the floor and eat meals out. The last straw was some of their stuff including a piece of furniture was damaged?

Safeway Movers Hamilton - NOT SO SAFE

AI Highlights
  • - Jewellery box stolen during a local Hamilton move.
  • - Safeway denies liability for missing items unless extraordinary value is disclosed before the move.

Recently used Safeway to move locally in Hamilton. My jewellery box was stolen out of my dresser during the move. Attempts have been made to contact Safeway and they accept no responsibility for any of this. The contract states that they are not liable for missing items of "extraordinary value" unless items are disclosed prior to move. What exactly is "extraordinary" and how is that defined if the value of the items are PRICELESS and mainly sentimental.

The guys who moved are STILL moving people after this.

Filing police report. Terrible company - will never recommend.

BE WARNED !! !! !

The "contract" states that they are not liable for missing items of "extraordinary value" unless items are disclosed prior to move. What exactly is "extraordinary" and how is that defined if the value of the items are PRICELESS and mainly sentimental.

Extraordinary value is defined by disclosing the value of any item to our company's office before a move to be insured properly. Example, a painting, a statue, furniture etc. We are unaware if a painting you own is $50 or $500.

"You have moved with us once before."

Our company policy is "not" to move "jewlery",Wills,Cash, Documents. You are to move these items yourself.

Our staff is Credible and trustworthy and we have tried to contact you with no response. We have also offered polygraph at our expense and when we have proved honourable you would pay the fee and take the test yourself.

So now the public is aware we are making good resolve.

Do the right thing and remove this blog or litigation will commence shortly.

From the owner,

Safeway Movers from Stoney Creek, ON

AI Highlights
  • - Movers were 30 minutes late and couldn't find the entrance.
  • - They didn't disassemble or wrap as instructed and damaged a cabinet; another crew was sent.

Moving with Safeway Movers, Stoney Creek, ON, 429 Dewitt Rd., Unit 1.

Our moving experience with this company was terrible.

First, the movers did not find the entrance of our big apartment building (Burlington Square, Burlington, ON), and came 30 minutes to late.

While I got my estimate done on July 8, 2011, all moving needs were noted, which included two stops (One at the new residence, the second one at a storage place).

It also included detailed instructions that a living room wall had to be disassembled and wrapped for storage.

The sales person assured me that it would be no problem for movers to do that as they are professionals.   Everything would be wrapped accordingly, and I would not have to worry about anything.

On our moving day, the movers arrived 30 minutes late, as they could not find our entrance to our very big apartment building.

They immediately informed me that they did not know that they would have to disassemble my living room wall, and did not know how to do that.  They also did not know that they were supposed to wrap the furniture, and did not bring any bubble wrap as it was arranged.

The movers asked me how they would have to disassemble the furniture.

I had moved many times before, and the living room furniture was moved even safely from Germany to Canada without any damage done.

Movers have never questioned me how to do their work.

I showed them how to unlock the special locks for the cabinet, and even did the unlocking for them.  Usually, I just can relax during moving day.

Only one mover then started to take the furniture apart, even though I informed him not to do so, and that three movers are needed to do that kind of work.

The end result was that he damaged the lower back corner of my living room cabinet, breaking and lifting off part of the wood (We took a picture of the damaged area).

We kindly pointed this out to the mover, and he all of a sudden tried to blame us for it.

As the movers had left my bill unsupervised, I wrote all what happened on the bill, so movers could not deny that they had damaged my very expensive living room cabinet.

At that point one of movers started to yell at me not to touch his paperwork because now he has to deal with the consequences, and he would have to explain to the office what happened.

I told him not to use that tone of voice with me and he got even more upset and informed me that they were leaving, and returning back to their company (Half of my furniture still left in their truck. (10:20 am).

We therefore had to call the office (Safeway) and I informed them what had happened to us, and we asked the company to send us another crew.

Safeway informed us the they only had this crew available and that they would send us "The very experienced crew" back.

The crew came back at about 10:45 am.

Safeway had informed me on July 8, 2011 that they would wrap all the drawers, and I should safe my time, and not to do any wrapping.

Thank God, I had purchased some wrapping material.  If I would not have done the work by myself, my moving experience would have even been worse.

The movers put all our furniture up-side-down, as well as all the drawers.

As the movers forgot to unload two shelves from my living room cabinet, we had to drive to the storage place and look for them on September 4, 2011.

On this day, we discovered that the movers even damaged one front piece of my living room cabinet, as they did not wrap the items (We took a picture of it).

I had planned to sell my living room wall unit as my new living spaces cannot accommodate this piece of furniture any more.

Now, I have to hire a garbage truck, and get it thrown out.

This move with Safe Way Movers was a nightmare, and I can only warn everybody never to use Safeway from Stoney Creek!

Arrived Late, Over-Charged, Hung-Up On!

AI Highlights
  • - Scheduled for Mar 13 at 10:00am; no confirmation call on Mar 11.
  • - Arrived 11:30am; five calls unanswered; charged $340 for 3h move + 1h travel; manager hung up.

I arranged for Safeway Movers to arrive and move my 1-bedroom apartment on March 13 at 10:00am. I was told that I would receive a call on March 11 to verify the moving time and date and provide any other information. I did not receive a call.

On March 13, the movers didn't arrive until 11:30am. I had called the Safeway Movers office five times, but no one was there to answer the phone. While the three movers did the job quickly, once it was complete they actually asked me for a tip.

I waited until 3:30pm on March 14 to call the moving company, as I had expected they would call me to discuss the problem. However, when I spoke to the manager, Bill Shade, he acted as if it were no big deal and said "I was aware of it, but they moved you, didn't they?" He told me he did not know why they showed up late.

I asked if he thought it was OK for his employees to show up 1.5 hours late and he answered "Well, you didn't have that much stuff."

When I told him that I was going to report the incident to the BBB he said something like "Do whatever you want." and hung up on me. I would like to point out that at no time during the call had I raised my voice, but he had made it very clear that he had gotten my money and that was all he cared about.

I was charged for three hours of moving time plus one hour of travel for a move that lasted from 11:30am to 1:30pm for a total of $340. The only thing they did NOT charge me for was the packing tape and shrink wrap they used to wrap my couch. I feel as though there should have been much more "give" there, but the point is that the company does not have customers in mind when operating.

It would be wise and nice for your readers that you to mention the actual location of the safeway movers you hired... as there are many safeway movers which operate under the same name legally in different states and provinces.

This posted comment will affect similar companies which is highly inappropriate. Much appreciated.
