No contact by the company. I would like to update the location. Apparently there are other moving companies with the same name - Safeway - this the company with main offices in Chicago.
They constantly assured us we would receive a call the day before actually coming to get our items and delivering - we never did. Even with constant calls from us never knew when they would come for pick up or delivery.
The worst part was all the hidden fees.
They insisted on charging us to "box" a table with a plexiglass top. The ended up putting it in without a box but we were still charged. Lots of other "items needed broken down or boxed" which really didn't need it.
The massage chair was broken down into tiny parts and we were assured that the crew delivering would be able to put it back together. THEY DIDN'T EVEN TRY!!
We had to hire someone else to put it back together.
The table that they didn't box they said they could not put in the room we requested without taking it apart.
We were willing to pay to take it apart but they refused.
Boxes were crushed and thrown around.
The delivery crew was rude and unpleasant and made the whole delivery miserable.
They subcontract everything. I would highly advise everyone not to go with this company.
- Nice people selling service
- Good help with setting up move
- Damaged goods
- Lost box
- Overcharged

Shady with paperwork!!!
After e signing. The forms were taken out of my email!!!
Was told once booked the forms are no longer needed!!! Never had a chance to print. I tried speaking to someone about getting them back...several phone calls..no luck!!
I was over charged!!!!! I tried to talk to someone but had absolutely no luck. Was told the street was too small for rig...but driver was able to get in just fine. I paid for a ahuttle which was never used!
I was told at pick up they needed my card front and back and my license front and back...move was from denver to pa..i was in pa so i was given an email address..which turned out to be wrong. Got a phone call from angry man demanding my info again,,it turned out the address was wrong with the man having no idea where my info went. I had to cancel my card and get a new one!
So....long story short..sorry i used them!!
If I were you i would look else where.....just my opinion. I lost money..had to replace credit card..but the driver was really good at his job and he should work somewhere else

Resolved: Worst moving experience ever
Do not use safeway moving and storage as they are the biggest scam in moving. They arrived late, overcharged by 1500, didn't deliver my belongings on time (I had to contact the federal transport agency and an attorney to get a delivery date which still took nearly 3 weeks!), they use a third party estimator for damages to property while moving and after doing over 3,000 worth of damage to my belongings including computer, treadmill, expensive furniture, and priceless pottery they offered me $70.
I will leave a review anywhere I can to prevent this experience from happening to someone else, they are simply and hands down the worst company I've ever done business with!
Preferred solution: Full refund
Safeway Movers Terrible Experience
In a nutshell...they damaged nearly every single piece of furniture they moved so badly that some items had to immediately be put out at the curb for the garbage. They charged $3,000.00 over what the original estimate was and their customer service people talk right over you and state that all movers are independent contractors and there's nothing they can do about that.
One of the movers insisted we buy dinner or they wouldn't be able to work properly and he tried to work a shifty deal of charging us less if we gave him extra money straight out. We didn't ***. To be fair, the guys on the other end were personable and tried to be helpful but it didn't make up for the baiting with a lower estimate and then charging another 3,000.00 after the entire household was loaded onto the truck nor did it make up for all the damaged furniture.
Definitely one of the most stressful and disappointing moves we've ever had. I would NEVER recommend Safeway Movers...it's anything but safe.

Review in Transportation and Storage category from Indian Trail, North Carolina
Booked a move with Homesafe in May to be moved from Canton, OH to myrtle Beach, SC on June 9 and on June 8 was informed that it was being sub-contracted to a company named Safeway!! They showed up with a Penske truck, no boxes, and no way to secure a Harley Davidson motorcycle!!
I was then informed on the day after they loaded my belongings that the price for the move had doubled! It is now June 24 and no positive response for delivery!! This was definitely a "bait and switch" situation!! I have made repeated requests for a date for delivery and just this morning was talked to like an underling because I said my medication was on the truck!!
I am a senior citizen and this has upset me no end!! I just want my belongings and to rest a in peace!! THIS COMPANY IS ATROCIOUS, NASTY AND AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED THIEVES!!
Why would you keep other people's belongings?? I am at this point, upset with both of these companies!!
Safeway Movers Moving Service Review
They are the worst moving company ever they take advantage of the elderly they moved my mom. Mothers day she is still waiting on her furniture she is 80 years old this is terrib le to do to a eldery person they would do this to thete own mothers trust me how rude and you should be a ashmed of yourself to take something from a elderly person that is all they have left in there life
Movers from ***!
Moved my Grandson from CT to Fla. They were a 1 1/2 days late in arriving in CT which delayed the run through at their rental apt which delayed them receiving their deposit.
A call to the Safeway office got a "we'll get there when we get there" response. Then Safeway was 3 days in in delivering their furniture in Fla.
They had to get blow up mattresses and sleep on the floor and eat meals out. The last straw was some of their stuff including a piece of furniture was damaged?
Safeway movers Nightmare
I had hired them to move and it was nothing short of a disaster. Rude to wife, rude to my family and abosolutly unprofessional.
Brooke the owner is the worst of all. She hangs up and does not answe your calls when you call her. Don't be fooled by her meatball husband either, he threaten me a few times while he had my belongings but the biggest *** I have ever spoken to.
Back to my furniture, bedroom set, dinning room set and coaches were all put in for claims through my insurance. W
What a pathetic company!!
Estimate Service Review
Tried on 3 separate occasions to get an estimate. First appt, estimated had car troubles.
Second attempt, estimater was rear ended.
Third attempt, they just didn't show up. Wouldn't rely on them for anything!
Safeway Movers Hamilton - NOT SO SAFE
Recently used Safeway to move locally in Hamilton. My jewellery box was stolen out of my dresser during the move. Attempts have been made to contact Safeway and they accept no responsibility for any of this. The contract states that they are not liable for missing items of "extraordinary value" unless items are disclosed prior to move. What exactly is "extraordinary" and how is that defined if the value of the items are PRICELESS and mainly sentimental.
The guys who moved are STILL moving people after this.
Filing police report. Terrible company - will never recommend.
BE WARNED !! !! !
Safeway Movers from Stoney Creek, ON
Moving with Safeway Movers, Stoney Creek, ON, 429 Dewitt Rd., Unit 1.
Our moving experience with this company was terrible.
First, the movers did not find the entrance of our big apartment building (Burlington Square, Burlington, ON), and came 30 minutes to late.
While I got my estimate done on July 8, 2011, all moving needs were noted, which included two stops (One at the new residence, the second one at a storage place). Â
It also included detailed instructions that a living room wall had to be disassembled and wrapped for storage.
The sales person assured me that it would be no problem for movers to do that as they are professionals. Â Everything would be wrapped accordingly, and I would not have to worry about anything.
On our moving day, the movers arrived 30 minutes late, as they could not find our entrance to our very big apartment building.
They immediately informed me that they did not know that they would have to disassemble my living room wall, and did not know how to do that. They also did not know that they were supposed to wrap the furniture, and did not bring any bubble wrap as it was arranged.
The movers asked me how they would have to disassemble the furniture.
I had moved many times before, and the living room furniture was moved even safely from Germany to Canada without any damage done. Â
Movers have never questioned me how to do their work.
I showed them how to unlock the special locks for the cabinet, and even did the unlocking for them. Â Usually, I just can relax during moving day.
Only one mover then started to take the furniture apart, even though I informed him not to do so, and that three movers are needed to do that kind of work.
The end result was that he damaged the lower back corner of my living room cabinet, breaking and lifting off part of the wood (We took a picture of the damaged area).
We kindly pointed this out to the mover, and he all of a sudden tried to blame us for it.
As the movers had left my bill unsupervised, I wrote all what happened on the bill, so movers could not deny that they had damaged my very expensive living room cabinet.
At that point one of movers started to yell at me not to touch his paperwork because now he has to deal with the consequences, and he would have to explain to the office what happened.
I told him not to use that tone of voice with me and he got even more upset and informed me that they were leaving, and returning back to their company (Half of my furniture still left in their truck. (10:20 am).
We therefore had to call the office (Safeway) and I informed them what had happened to us, and we asked the company to send us another crew.
Safeway informed us the they only had this crew available and that they would send us "The very experienced crew" back.
The crew came back at about 10:45 am.
Safeway had informed me on July 8, 2011 that they would wrap all the drawers, and I should safe my time, and not to do any wrapping.
Thank God, I had purchased some wrapping material. Â If I would not have done the work by myself, my moving experience would have even been worse.
The movers put all our furniture up-side-down, as well as all the drawers.
As the movers forgot to unload two shelves from my living room cabinet, we had to drive to the storage place and look for them on September 4, 2011.
On this day, we discovered that the movers even damaged one front piece of my living room cabinet, as they did not wrap the items (We took a picture of it).
I had planned to sell my living room wall unit as my new living spaces cannot accommodate this piece of furniture any more.
Now, I have to hire a garbage truck, and get it thrown out.
This move with Safe Way Movers was a nightmare, and I can only warn everybody never to use Safeway from Stoney Creek!
Arrived Late, Over-Charged, Hung-Up On!
I arranged for Safeway Movers to arrive and move my 1-bedroom apartment on March 13 at 10:00am. I was told that I would receive a call on March 11 to verify the moving time and date and provide any other information. I did not receive a call.
On March 13, the movers didn't arrive until 11:30am. I had called the Safeway Movers office five times, but no one was there to answer the phone. While the three movers did the job quickly, once it was complete they actually asked me for a tip.
I waited until 3:30pm on March 14 to call the moving company, as I had expected they would call me to discuss the problem. However, when I spoke to the manager, Bill Shade, he acted as if it were no big deal and said "I was aware of it, but they moved you, didn't they?" He told me he did not know why they showed up late.
I asked if he thought it was OK for his employees to show up 1.5 hours late and he answered "Well, you didn't have that much stuff."
When I told him that I was going to report the incident to the BBB he said something like "Do whatever you want." and hung up on me. I would like to point out that at no time during the call had I raised my voice, but he had made it very clear that he had gotten my money and that was all he cared about.
I was charged for three hours of moving time plus one hour of travel for a move that lasted from 11:30am to 1:30pm for a total of $340. The only thing they did NOT charge me for was the packing tape and shrink wrap they used to wrap my couch. I feel as though there should have been much more "give" there, but the point is that the company does not have customers in mind when operating.
