Robert B Patel's scam

Robert B Patel of New Jersey is a total scam. He is internal Medicine physician. He is on call in Robertwood Johnson Hospital. The web shows he accept BCBS PPO. When I find out he does not accept BCBS and charges $3250.00 for the first visit in Robertwood Johnson Hospital and then $1250.00 in the subsequent visit. I talk to him about his absurd charges and post wrong information in the web. I tell him I cannot afford such a absurd charge, he is not allow to see my wife. He admits he does not accept BCBS. However he tell me not to worry. He states that Robertwood Johnson is in network so he is in the network too. He will work with BCBS. Since he states he will be in netword and he will be bounded the in-network rule, he continues to see my wife. But he continues to send absurd claims to BCBS without accepting the allowed amount from BCBS. He even charge $7200.00 for two subsequent visit and $2500.00 for 30 min discharge procedure. This is equivalent to $5000.00 per hour. I met him or his partners several times in the hospital during his visit. He just ask several questions without really examine my wife. Any one goes to Robertwood Johnson must watch this Doctor. Don't let him be your doctor unless he commits to a fixed reasonable charge. I am not sure he is a doctor or vampire.

One more similar story about this Dr.Rip off.

This time it is in Saint peter's Hospital in New Brunswick. Not days or hours, but he came for a visit (not sure whom he got authorized with) spent less than 2 MINUTES and charged a bill for $2,850, got some of the amount from insurance and now demanding the rest of the amount from me.

After hearing all the above stories, now I assume that he is so much used to this kind of practice.Beware of this doctor.

The same story happened with my wife when she was in RWJUH in 2011. I advise everybody to boycott this doctor.

Same here.. 2,500 bills for talking 30 minutes during discharge.

Total of 17,500 dollars for 5 days 30 minutes to an hr each day. This is a scam.

Rip off. Someone has to do something about it.

Wow! I'm in the same boat!

Two 30 minutes visits = $5,200.00!

Filed complaints with the AMA and NJ Board of Medical Examiners. Currently awaiting outcome.

I am having the same problem. I never asked for or requested this doctor.

Apparently the RUJUH assigns him if you do not have a primary care doctor. I was not an emergency case. He is billing me almost $8,000. He is not in my network.

My insurance company gave me $1,100 which I promptly sent him. Now he is looking for the balance.

I have complained to RWJUH but they have been no help so far. Can anyone give me an idea as to the resolution of your bills with this rip off doctor?
