Do Not Hire RM Hinton. In the terrible aftermath of Hurricane of hurricane Michael which devastated the Florida Panhandle on October 10, 2018, we met David Effress who claimed to be an owner of RM Hinton, Inc. Our house near Port S. Joe was badly damaged by the storm and we were desperate for help. David Effress promised us to assist us with “fast tracking” our insurance claim and with construction repairs to follow. He claimed to be some sort of “super adjustor” who specializes in getting businesses and homeowners favorable insurance settlements and then providing immediate repair services from outside the local area affected by the storm. It was an empty promise and hiring RM Hinton was the biggest mistake we’ve ever made. To date, we are out over $50,000 and we are preparing a lawsuit against them. Almost everything David Effress told us was a lie and he failed to perform again and again on his promises to us. In addition, he did unauthorized demolition work to our garage then charged us $15,000 (five times what it is worth) while threatening to put a lien on our house if we did not pay. Working with David Effress and HM Hinton was a nightmare. The attached invoice from RM Hinton (which we paid) is just one example. David Effress guaranteed payment of this claim. It was in fact rejected by our flood insurance company because the damage Effress claimed was not even covered by our policy. So it is clear he never read the policy and knew nothing about it despite the fact he called himself and “insurance claims expert” and received a copy of the policy when we hired him. I want this money and other money we paid Hinton refunded to us. They didn’t earn it, they misrepresented our insurance company on multiple occasions, and even went behind our backs twice to our bank (who held the mortgage on our house) in an effort to put pressure on us to “play their game” which our bank thankfully refused to do.
