Rimadyl
CAUTION BEWARE
Our dachshund was prescribed Rimadyl to help control the pain of an ear infection. Of course, we were concerned that our dog was suffering, so we simply trusted the vets and we didn't investigate the potential side-effects.
Within a couple days of using Rimadyl, our dog was unable to walk due to partial paralysis in his hind legs. He had a terrible seizure that lasted a half-hour. Unfortunately, it didn't occur to us that Rimadyl could have this effect until our 2nd dachshund received a single dose and lost the ability to walk within 12 hours. That is when we started researching and discovered countless stories from others with similar experiences.
We are devastated. Please be warned. I know some dogs are helped by Rimadyl /carprofen, but the risks are very real and very serious. These are not "upset stomach" or "lethargy" type of side effects.
These are paralysis, liver or renal failure, and death side-effects. Please use a pain management drug with less risky side-effects.
If you decide to use Rimadyl, watch your dog very carefully and start with very small doses. It is absolutely horrible to watch your beloved family member suffer because you kept giving them something you thought was going to help them.

Points program a joke
My dog is a senior with arthritis so my vet recommended Rimadyl. Everytime we would purchase from the vet, we would get a coupon for $10 which was loaded onto their own Rimadog credit card which in turned could be used at a participating vet for money off your vet expense.
HAHA that is if you can actually get them to honor it(Rimadog that is).
My vet said they could not run the card after it was loaded because their machine would not accept it....Rimadog kept telling me that it would, the vet said no, finally after all the back and forth *** my vet's office called them over a month ago and Rimadog agreed to refund my $$ on the card which has amounted to over $70...I have called almost every week asking when the refund will be sent and I keep getting the same answer "It's in the system waiting for approval and we do not really know when it will get sent because the program is still new" What the heck, either you do or you! Who knows if I will ever get my money....probably not and the run around and time spent on the phone is really really annoying!!!!!!!!!!

These horrific side effects keep happening. Just had to put my cocker spaniel to sleep.
Even after very disturbing lab tests the vet did not advise us to stop the medication. Just retest later. Couldn't believe the improvement. Almost unbeleivable.
10 days later our dog couldn't walk or eat. Zoetis knows about this. They need to retrain everyone. Or better yet stop selling the drug.
Only administer the medication after checking it out.
I trusted the veterinarian. My mistake and I will have to live with it.
