On 6/21/2010, I split the cost of having a row of arborvities, approx. 30' long and 15-17' high, cut in half (height only) with my neighbor. The job was done about a week earlier than 6/21/2010. The arborvities belong to my neighbor but as a goodwill gesture I offered to split the cost because the row of arborvities act as a privacy fence between our two properties. The neighbor was responsible for contacting the service to do the job. Through an outfit called ServiceMagic, a contractor, Rex Environment Pest Control, of Allentown, PA, was hired to do the job. Their side business includes tree trimming. No one was home on the day that Rex did the job so we could not tell him how bad the job was looking as he moved along. Both I and the neighbor were very dissatisfied with the job. The cut was so uneven that the neighbor had asked that Rex return and, at minimum, make an even cut. And therein lies the problem. She has made several calls to this service and has received promises of returning but that has been over a month already. If he returned, I don't see him having to spend more than 45 minutes to correct this. My advice to anyone who wants to listen is not to hire this business to do any tree trimming services and if you use Service Magic to find you a contrator, make sure you insist that you don't want to use Rex Environment Pest Control. Our first and only experience has proven that the job was not good and I am even more pi**ed that he does not return to correct it. Unfortunately, the neighbor's mother had given him the check on the day he did the job. Personally, he would not have received any payment until the job was done to our satisfaction. We are not asking for the job to be done over. We are asking that it just be leveled to the same height all around.
