Hi guys! I want to post a review about Restoration X Cycles.
I found this website on FB and IG about a year and a half ago. It was so cool seeing bikes from my childhood having life breathed back into them by John. About a year ago I put a down payment on a 1986 Yamaha YZ-490. About two months ago John called me and said hey Scott your bike is the next build.
I was so excited to see my bike come alive in pictures and videos he shared with me personally and on both internet platforms. I grew up in Northern British Columbia in a very rural area and dreamed about having a motorcycle but didnt have any money and neither did my parents. So scratching this itch later in life is very satisfying. I also collect NOS three wheelers and am honored to have one of my trikes on the cover of this recent July issue of Dirt Wheels Magazine and they published an 8 page article I wrote about it.
So I did have a preconceived idea about what John was building meI was wrong!! I thought I was getting a vintage bike restored to average specs, something that looked good in pictures on his website but when the bike showed up I would find some obvious corners he had taken to cut costs etc etcI was DEAD WRONG!! The mint YZ-490 showed up Tuesday nightas I rolled it off the shippers truck I had that same excitement that I did as a kid looking at a brand new bike! This bike is better than when Yamaha built itin 1986 the frame wasnt powder coated it was painted on etcmy bike looks amazing!
I am completely shocked at the workmanship that John did to pull this offthe list of NOS parts he somehow got his hands on for the build makes me speechlessIts brand new! I will never ride it, its too damn nice. When I called John to compliment him on the phone he was humble and elated with my enthusiasm at being satisfied. When I asked him how many hours it took to do the restoration he wouldnt tell me.
Immediately, I told him that he needs to keep track of his time and charge more for his work!! What he charges to restore these bikes to this level of perfection is worth double what he is charging and I really mean it. John isnt paying me to say what Im saying and he will only know what I said after I post this. I had to call him last night asking him to enable FB so I could leave a review (because he had it turned off) as there is always some *** in life that has to whine and *** and complain on social media trying to ruin some hard working guys reputation.
John, thank you. I cant wait for you to build me the 1984 Yamaha IT-490 this next year to add to my collection!
You and your work are amazing. You are a class act and I highly recommend you to anyone who loves dirt bikes and they want to restore their dreams!

I have purchased several bikes from John and they all turned out nice. We took a trip out to his house to pick up some of them and meet him.
John is one of the last guys that can build and make them like new again. Every bike I have from him is like new and it's nice to show people history when they come over .
I know we dont ride them , but I love saving history and so does John. Glad I was able to buy fro him.

Positive
The whole premise behind this questionable and legal website is in question. None of the reviews are from variable as true customers.
Anyone can leave a review anonymously which shows a lack of credibility. The bottom line is that if anyone from social media has an issue with you for ANY reason can smear your name. In my 35 years of restoring motorcycles I have seen it all and heard it all, the majority of motorcycle guys always have their hand out wanting stuff for next to nothing or for free.
All my customers sign a four page contract and if you dont read it, thats on you. I strongly suggest if your going to leave a *** review, at least be a man and post your real name, hiding in the shadows is weak

Special thanks to John at Restoration X Cycle! John does absolutely the most thorough and beautiful restorations of vintage Yamaha dirt bikes that can be found anywhere in the country, and hes possibly the best in the world!! Thats a 1986 Yamaha IT200 that looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor!

Verified ReviewerVery poor customer service, not as advertised.
I bought a restored 86 YZ 250 from Restoration X and it was a conglomeration of very used, repainted, sanded down, old worn out parts. Dont get me wrong, I understand its restored but I was expecting a lot more than what I could have done myself over a few beers in my garage with sand paper and a rattle can. The bikes look great in photos but once you see it in person its a whole different thing.
I contacted John about my concerns and disappointment and immediately got sworn at, belittled and basically told to go f__ myself. There was absolutely no customer service after the sale. I strongly recommend you avoid doing business with this company. Hes a shyster and will rip
you off. Im left with a very expensive, poorly finished bike that isnt worth half what I paid for it.
You are far better off buying a used bike and restoring it yourself over time or bite the bullet and buy one that looks amazing which you can look over in person. Restoration X is constantly on the *** of going out of business and I heard his sob story personally when I put my deposit down.
Just avoid this guy and go a different route.
Preferred solution: Full refund
User's recommendation: Do not do business with Restroration X.
Bad experience
Supposedly sold me a restored motorcycle. Ended up being a powder coated pile of crap.
Bad thing is he said he would take care of it before I realized how bad it was.
I felt sorry for him and said I would take care of it. Once I realized how bad it was and asked him to come get it he quit responding.
- John is a con

Verified ReviewerDamage to my motor
I sent John a motor for a 1975 dt250 he replaced crank bearings, seals and rebuilt the top end. Sent motor back and clutch wasnt working right so I called John he finally said send it back I packed it in a good tote, packed it with 3 inch foam all the way around, after 3 weeks he sent it back in a cardboard box with no packing, box was torn, ripped down the side and the motor was damaged, I sent him photos and 2 messages but of course he never responded, sent a txt message no response, he blocked me on messenger, never again, wouldnt recommend his services to anyone
Preferred solution: For John to stand behind his work and be responsible for damaging someone’s property and at least acknowledge it
User's recommendation: Do not use johns services for repairs
Scammer
This person is a scammer. No business address, no credible location.
If you are credible, post it.
Location doesn't match the zip code. Get honest or get out.
Mic drop.
Warn customers buying his bike
DO NOT BUY FROM John Burgess of Restoration Cycle. He sells a bike and AFTER you've paid for it he relists it on his Facebook page claiming the sale fell through and the buyer backed out.
When confronted he said it was to show an example of his work! But why lie about it??? I think he intended to double sell the bike and then keep my money. Look at his other post on FB saying he is going broke and losing money.
This is a guy on the brink of going out of business. He repeat post pictures already sold and not even available.
Preferred solution: Apology
User's recommendation: STAY AWAY FROM THIS SELLER!!!

A fake review, didn't sell any YZ 250 in 2024.
or in 2023. Clearly a fake review.
