Part doesn't fit

I have an Audi tt and needed an alternator. The original alternator is a Bosch.

Went to Parts Source and was given a Remy alternator. I was told REMY is now suppling this part for Part Source. My problem is that the 2 places on the alternator where the bolts go through are thicker than the original Bosc alternator. As I live 100 kms from the nearest Part Source Store, it is not simply a matter of just returning it.

Further, to get to the alternator I have to take out the serpentine belt. So, the car is totally disabled and undriveable. I then had to sand down the 2 areas where the mounting bolts go to reduce the thickness of these areas. Luckily I could keep sanding until I could make the alternator fit as it is supposed to fit.

Trying to talk to someone from REMY is difficult.

Part Source gave me the wrong phone number. I Googled REMY and ended up talking to someone in Mexico before being transferred to the USA. The person in the USA could not address my issue as the companies are different entities in Canada and the USA.

I'm waiting for someone from REMY Canada to call me; however I'm not going to hold my breath.

I give REMY 1 star. because my problem is a manufacturing issue.

Remy Automotive - Bad customer service
Original review updated May 23, 2022

Purchased my Alternator back in 2019 on Rockauto. It was listed as life time warranty.

Within 2 weeks my first alternator went out. they did warranty it out the first time(I had to paid for a replacement first and waited for a refund later). However now is 2022 they changed their warranty policy to 1 year. Even tho on Rockauto website says (Ordered Before 10/1/2020 Limited Lifetime warranty).

Since rockauto provide 0 customer service, I had to called Remy directly. Sure enough they refused to to do anything about it, after I explained to them I have my prove of purchase and rockauto does not provide any customer support. They did not bother to help in anyway just told me to have a good day..?. I guess now I am stock with a POS that does not works.

Stay away from this company...if you are lucky.

you might get about a year out of their product. If not maybe 2 weeks...

Stranded during Wisconsin winter by multiple faulty alternators

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

My truck needed a new alternator and the brand my mechanic installed was Remy. The day I picked up my truck from the mechanic after he installed the new Remy alternator my truck suddenly died (with the same exact issues as before the Remy alternator was installed) while I was on a seldom traveled County Hwy as I live in rural Wisconsin.

The temperature outside was well below freezing, and I was lucky that a passing motorist stopped and picked me up, but only after I sat in my truck for almost an hour. I had to pay for my truck to be towed back to my mechanics shop. Again, the problem was the alternator. Thinking it was just a fluke, my mechanic returned the faulty alternator to Remy and received another.

Three days later I was left stranded AGAIN, same issue, same below freezing temperatures, same towing bill, and AGAIN, the problem was a faulty Remy alternator. My mechanic again returned the alternator to Remy, purchase another brand alternator with the refund Remy issued and my truck has been working perfectly for over a month now. I will now require that any automotive products from Remy will never be used on ANY future work to any vehicle I own or my family owns. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

There won't be a third time! This could have had a very tragic ending.
