Rehabilitation Hospital of Kingsport - Billing

On April 20, 2022 I just about had a Stroke. I was admitted to Holston Valley Hospital (Ballad Health) with a UTI and Extremely High Blood Pressure, and according to my power of attorney, doctors, and nurses I was also unresponsive.

I stayed in the Hospital for 3 or 4 days, and then was admitted to a Rehab Facility In Kingsport, Tennessee. My power of Attorney was given 2 or 3 choices by the Hospital administrator as to where I needed to go. The Hospital Administrator told him that the first 21 days of Rehab would be covered 100% on my Insurance no matter which Rehab facility he chose. He was given 2 choices.

NHC Rehab Or Encompass Health. My power of Attorney Chose NHC, but the day before I was released from the hospital, Both me and my power of attorney were told that NHC was FULL and was no longer taking paitents, so my power of attorney Chose Encompass Health ( Formerly Health South ) Rehabilitation Hospital of Kingsport. I was transported there by Ambulance, and after being admitted the staff seemed to be nice, the food was okay, and I began my Rehab so that I could hopefully go home in the next couple of weeks. While staying at the Rehab facility, my Power of attorney was told to Attend a "FAMILY MEETING" While at the meeting, he was told by KENNETH WROE, who is Director of Case Management that my first 21 days would be covered 100% by my insurance.

Anything over 21 days, I would then be billed. I stayed at Encompass Health from April 23rd to May 11th. My power of attorney then picked me up and drove me home. After several weeks of being home, I received a BILL for $1,040 dollars.

I called my insurance and they also told me that as long as I stayed at a "skilled nursing facility" that I did not owe any Money. Now I know why Encompass changed their name to REHABILITATION " HOSPITAL " OF KINGSPORT. Because on my BILL it shows Hospital instead of "SKILLED NURSING FACILITY" What A Ripoff. When I Google "skilled nursing facilities in Kingsport, Tennessee" It gives me a list of Nursing Homes..

I'm 83 years old, and I have NEVER been past due on a Bill of any kind. I am Unable to pay the bill that they sent me and I have been on the phone numerous times with my insurance compmay, and unable to get a response. This company needs to be reported for their Billing practices. Although I received descent care, they told Me AND My Power of Attorney that I would not be charged ONE PENNY after my rehab was complete and I was released to go home.

Do NOT Fall for this Scam !! If you or a loved one needs to go to a Rehab Facility, Be SURE and ask if your stay in rehab is covered 100% and if so, GET IT IN WRITING.
