Terrible Customer Service

I have had the same experience as many of you. I believe most consumers have, but are not aware of websites such as these. Please do not buy into the warranty and quality that Rainbow Play Systems tricks consumers into believing. We had purchased a $600 play system from Wal-Mart which we had for about three years. I felt the quality was low, but for the price it was what I expected. What I didn't expect is the $3000 play system from Rainbow to be of similar quality! I thought this would be okay, because they have an excellent warranty, right? Wrong... Instead, I am now stuck with a terrible play system that has rusting ladder rungs that Customer service has told me is not covered under warranty and to sand them down and spray paint them myself with Rustoleum.

My sister and her husband have a Rainbow Swing Set, and it is falling apart just as most of your's are. I have thought about this quite a bit and am in the process of opening a small business that would supply a new line of swing sets.

The swing set would be all metal and powder coated to a color of choice. Now I haven't made anything yet, and and things are still in the works, but what I'm asking is what are you looking for in a swing set?

The worst customer service experience. Candy and Bridget, the managers, attitude is inexcusable. I have a 3 year old swing set that is rusted and unsafe. While it is covered by warranty, they are charging over $300 to ship and labor. Why as the customer of a hazardous object for my children have to pay even 1 cent to have it fixed. Do not buy from this company. I am looking to start a customer fraud complaint and will be reporting them to the better business bureau. I also think there should be a recall on their swing sets.

The federal Consumer Products Safety Commission should be notified of these problems. They can bring products recalls.

Poor Product and service

We have two Rainbow Play Systems. Even after following the recommendations on staining the wood it rots from within the wood. I am not sure if it the kind of wood they claim it to be nor do I think it was ever really treated as they claim.. Big, big disappointment! Poor or nonexistent service and return calls from the company...Slide and swing broken, wood rotting everywhere including on roofs and on all ground pieces. It is very unsafe being we are unable to get anywhere with the company. Look at another company but read reviews. The sales staff will only tell you what you want to hear. Beware of rigged positive reviews!

Our Rainbow Play System rotted and rusted to the core in 7 years. The metal rusted and broke. 90% of the wood rotted, chipped, broke, and cracked. It is dangerous for our kids so of course I called about the "Lifetime Warranty". Forget it. I had to call 10 times, email pictures, argue, all they offered was to send some replacement parts. Some? The whole thing is dilapidated. And they wanted to charge a ridiculous charge for shipping. It would have cost me much more to do that and pay to have it all broken down, disposed of, fixed up, delivered, etc than to buy a new play system from a better company. If you live in Florida or a humid place, please do not buy Rainbow Play Systems. They even admitted that they "don't do well in Florida". Hmmmm wouldn't it have been nice if they shared that info before we spent thousands of dollars on it?

I bought a third hand rainbow for 200 some wood was about to go bad. Id refurbished the wood n paint it.

I spend another 400 to buy new bolt, rope, swing n exterior paint. I also add 4 xtra leg support n made a sand box under neat.

I also add a pole next to the monkey bar as a fire fighter pole. I'd save a lot n kids really enjoyed it n hopefully last another 10years in Las Vegas weather.

Did you do anything to maintain it over time? I ask because we re stain our every few years and tighten bolts and have had no problems.

Many people think they don't have to ever do anything after you buy something.

We even clean our set during the Summer. It is left outdoors........

Rainbow will not replace wood on my playset

I paid a lot of money for this system and repeatedly tried to get them to honor the wood warranty. I sent picture after picture and they would lie, lie, lie, saying it was being sent; it was being investigated, etc.

They break you down and you finally give up after they block your calls and you can't reach them. Now the $6000 playset lies in pieces in my backyard and I can not even sell the slide -- SAVE YOURSELF A LOT OF TIME AND MONEY, DO NOT BUY RAINBOW PLAYSETS SWINGSETS OR WHATEVER THEY CALL THAT PILE OF RUBBLE!

Please remember all the Rainbow Play Systems Stores are independently owned and operated. Please don't base your opinion of Rainbow Play Systems on a couple stores that my be doing a poor job on customer service.

Also Rainbow has been manufacturing American made swing sets for over 28 years, many of which came with a lifetime warranty to the original owner. Unfortunately, some people who are not the original owners of Rainbow Swing Sets try to receive warrantied parts. As a result, we must be diligent when processing all warranty claims. Lastly, anyone can post on these sites and its a breeding ground for lesser competitors to try and knock Rainbow down by fabricating reviews.

See the reviews on this site about itself, not very creditable.

Rainbow Playsystems--Overpriced, Inferior Products, Worthless Warranty

Don't bother calling the customer service number. It is seriously like talking to a recording. The "lifetime warranty" only covers parts, and the customer is responsible for shipping the parts (which is commonly hundreds of dollars) plus labor to repair it. Doesn't matter if the bottom of the unit completely disintegrates after two years of use or not. They do not care and they will not deviate from their policy. They are good at "customer education", however, as I was informed that my system was a "wood product". Really, you don't say? My kids are probably wondering why "Santa" brought them such a piece of *** playground. These systems are garbage and Rainbow uses the warranty pitch to sell an overpriced, inferior product. We got duped and they are not concerned in the slightest. The only recourse is to try to educate as many people as possible that this company is dishonest, and steer them toward another product. If I knew I was going to pay for something that was only going to last two or three years, I would have paid far less for a Walmart unit.

TERRIBLE, UNSAFE SWING SET - HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE - USELESS WARRANTY

Ordered a $2,500 swing set 2 years ago from Rainbow swings in Columbia MD. I wanted to buy from Home Depot or Sears for half the price, but my wife insisted we not skimp since its for the kids safety. We also paid them for installation. Boy what a mistake. Within 6 months, it began to fall apart - every time my ids play on it, they bring in a piece of wood that fell off. Finally, I've resrtricted the use since I don't evne trust its safety any longer. I now have a $2,500 piece of wood sitting in my backyard. I filed warranty - firstr attempt - no response. second attempt. No response. Third attempt - I was honest about the terrible service, product and warranty. I told them if I didn't hear back, I'm filing complaint with BBB and blasting them on reviews. I received a rude response effectively saying they were not honoring their warranty. What a waste. stay away!!

Worst customer service! Once they sell you a swing set you are nothing to them. Tried to get replacement parts from them and the lady I spoke with was rude and not helpful at all. Ended up going to home depot

Rainbow Playset Significant Degradation At 3 Years

We purchased a mid-sized Rainbow play system in 2003 thinking this was a high quality all natural and safe product for our kids. However, we came across a lot of problems starting in the third year of ownership and just recently disposed of it. Issues:

1) Mold, mildew and black spots developed all over the yellow plastic parts of the set - ladder, slide, monkey bar handles, and could not clean it even with full strength bleach.

2) All exposed and painted metal parts started rusting - chains above rubberized area on swings, fireman's pole.

3) It is a magnet for bugs, wasps, hornets, ants and anything else that drills into wood, including woodpeckers! I was woken up one morning with a woodpecker hacking away in a top beam on the set, creating perfect homes for bugs.

It was already out of warranty by the time we encountered these problems, and it just got to the point that it became a yard decoration, and a pricey one at that. We paid close to $2k for it back then, and although the kids enjoyed it for a couple of years, these issues got so bad they abandoned it and we just went to a local park. Disposal was another $300.

So think twice about buying this set, absolutely not worth it even if you can afford it.

Are you sure it's a genuine Rainbow? I bought mine the same year, here in San Diego, and it is still in perfect condition.

If the wood was refinished it would be indistinguishable from new.

Also you say the warranty ran out but they come with a lifetime warranty to the original purchaser. Additionally redwood is bug-repellant and termite-proof so your complaints about the wood being bug-infested make no sense.

Horrible Installation Experience

I was told it would only take 4 hours. Well, 4 days later it is finally up. The first guy who came out missed his 9 -11 window to arrive and then spent 8 hours trying to figure out what to do and basically got nothing done. No one showed up the next day until 5:30 PM and I made them stop at 8, so I could put the kids to bed. No one showed up the third day. Really??!! The punk *** owner, Mike, wouldn't even call me back to explain what was going on. If they don't refund my installation charge, the lawyers will get involved and I'll make them come take the *** thing down!!

Rainbow Play Systems would not honor price

I put a down payment on the King Kong Pkg II in Dec. 2013. I call today (4/18/14) to finish my order and upgrade to a package V set. The sales person admitted that he made a mistake in the price he emailed me in 2013, but the Bloomington, MN Rainbow Play Systems store would not honor the price their sales rep quoted me. After he realized his error, he said he would talk to the manager and give me a call back. This set is going for around $10,000. After the call back, the sale person told me the manager is not willing to honor the $273 difference in price. Needless to say, I cancelled my order and went to Crown of Minnesota and saved a bunch of money. Thank you Crown of Minnesota!!!

Poor service and attitude for 'open-play'.

First off, note that the business model for Rainbow is that they are the manufacturer, and license their marks for use by their 'locally-owned' dealers. And the dealers have iron-bound territories. So if you have a lousy dealer, you're screwed. Internet research shows that Rainbow itself doesn't care about how poor their dealers are. Some Rainbow showrooms have open-play times for a nominal fee. They do this to generate leads, rather than for income. My wife purchased a Groupon for this, and arranged a play-date for Saturday with some friends. She called on Tuesday to make sure that she knew the hours, etc. She was told, yes, there was open-play on Saturdays, and that they were open until 5. We arrived at 3:30. And we were told that we couldn't play because there was a birthday party there from 2-4 (which they also do). We weren't happy that we weren't told this on Tues. So we sat in the car until 4. Whereupon we were told that they were closing for the day. Note that they did not stay open until 5 like we were told. The manager (who was likely the owner) was quite rude in telling us that we couldn't play, basically because he didn't want to hang around. He also said that he wouldn't accept the Groupon because it requires a reservation 3 weeks ahead. Well, it did, but only for birthday parties. And that didn't address people walking in as one might expect on a Saturday. And Mr. Manager, we really don't care how many calls you've had in the last month. Nor do we care to be told you don't need our business (you weren't going to get it anyway). And our friend certainly didn't appreciate you turning your back on her and flipping her off. If all goes well, Groupon will refund what we paid.

Rainbow playsystems Finance company IMC

I find myself in a difficult situation, I have done the very first rent to own rainbow system and have to say I love it, however I have been nothing but honest with this finance company on numerous occasions about our difficult 4 months when my husband and I fell on economic hard times....I made sporadic payments but payments were made and accepted by the company....I have invested over 3000.00 into this unit for my grandchildren and have asked for some help in as far as letting me make payment a little larger every month to get caught up and tried refinancing with another company but no luck....I have been told that they want to remove my unit, give me 7 days to pay up even though they have accepted payments and that I will loose my 3000.00 if the unit is sold or auctioned.....not sure how they do that and if by a miracle I can pay then they will charge me an additional 200.00 to bring it back out.....I only want to meet my obligation...I have offered on several occasions for them to let me give them post dated checks ....to please put the arrears at the end of the financing....I have never done this before and feel very embarrassed by my situation...Rainbow themselves have been wonderful and feel very sorry this is happening but it is out of there hands is what they are telling me...I am a good person with good intentions ...basically don't rent to own......

We bought a structure that had a small footprint because of the size of the space we were working with. After asking questions about its safety etc we were very happy with the purchase but after we had it set up the same day we started to notice that it twisted and was not built with great engineering. It would have been a simple fix with an A frame addition to the side but our space did not allow it. We had a construction engineer, neighbor, look at it and he said it was an easy fix so we made the suggestion to Rainbow. We did this three times over 4 months and heard nothing back each time. We are still currently dealing with the problem and have the GM in Bloomington looking into it this time. Just so happens he was the first person we talked to the first time we called. Should be called RunAround Play Sets.

No service after sale

I purchased a unit with a lifetime warranty. After only two years the slide now has a large crack making it unsafe to use. Ive called rainbox 6 times or more as well as emailed them. No one will return my call or email or take ownership of this issue. I keep getting passed around.The local vendor who sold me the unit will not help in anyway and will not stand behind the warranty. So far the warranty that I was told would protect the unit is not worth the paper that it is printed on. Beware of buying this companies product.
