Abusive Coach

Many, many girls have quit this gym due do abusive behavior from the male coach. The owner, Rachel Rydbeck, knows about this, and chooses to do nothing. Fear, intimidation, over-conditioning, and shaming are common coaching practices at this gym. Rachel Rydbeck sends out attendance e-mails to all the parents, listing each gymnasts name and how many days per month they missed practice. Gymnasts are made to feel guilty if they miss practice for any reason. There is also a lot of blatant favoritism. Select gymnasts will be chosen to go on outings (shopping trips etc.), and Rachel will post the outings on social media for every gymnast to see. It is very hurtful for those gymnasts not invited. Gymnasts are also put into groups according to skill level, so it is very obvious who the favorites are. The environment at this gym is not caring or nurturing for young athletes. Is is toxic, and there are many parents who can attest to this. Stay away!!!

I completely agree with the feedback above. Watching your child's dreams, desires, and talents wash away because of coaching, public humiliation, and intimidation is aburd and heartbreaking.

These girls are winners and will rise to excellence in anything they choose. My daughter hasn't missed one thing about R, except her amazing teammates.

R-ATHLETICS GYMNASTICS

Abusive to the young girls training. Yelling and calling names if they don't think your doing something right. Several gymnast's have been in tears and quit. Unethical owner who tries to recruit from other gyms because she can't develop a high level gymnast. Won't communicate with parents, (its my way or the highway type attitude). Uses a military style of practice that's very abusive towards the children. Not a loving and family oriented atmosphere like other gymnastics facilities. Most of the coaches were no higher than level 8. Compared to other gyms the coaches aren't very experienced. Coaches have no children so they do not have a clue on how to treat or develop them. There are a lot of unhappy parents and children that attend this gym and a lot of them will be quitting. My advice is stay as far away as you can and don't put your child into a negative atmosphere like this. You will regret it.

I completely agree with this review. The male coach is abusive, and the owner, Rachel Rydbeck, does nothing about it.

This gym is all about image. They care only about the athletes they think are on the road to elite status. Perfection is required, while fun and team building is secondary.

Shame on this gym for its treatment of young, vulnerable girls.

I have to apologize for my previous comment defending "R" Athletics. By March of 2013, I too had witnessed the abuse of little girls.

Although our child was winning, we pulled her from this gym due to severe conditioning being used as punishment by the male coach and his demeaning of these little girls. There is something terribly wrong at this gym. The other coaches watch his behavior but will not stop him because they are afraid of him.

The owner, Rachel Rydbeck, refuses to fire him making her equally culpable.

Stay away from this gym!

This surely has not been our experience. I have never heard a coach yell and I am there often.

The owner is properly focused and spends her time communicating with my child.

Since I am not the gymnast, I do not need her to communicate with me unless I request her to do so. The one time that I made a request, she met with me.
