Do Not Trust Contractors Who Advertise on Home Advisor or Any Third Party

I hired R & M LANDSCAPING & CONSTRUCTION LLC to install a concrete driveway. He sent me a Proposal but his writing skills are not good because I could not begin to understand what he was going to do, so I wrote it in detail and sent it back, which he had no problem with.

Even said, he never sent it back or asked for a deposit. Since I needed to have a 40 ton crane move a sea container out of the way first, I told him I need to put up the fence first to lighten the container of the fence and concrete before the crane guy could move it. When I put in Home Advisor for fence installers, his name came up for fences, so I called him and asked if he wanted to do that as well and he agreed. I had already put in all the terminal posts and the gate, to mark the property line, so all they had to do is install the in-between posts and wire the chain link to it.

I already had all the materials here. The first day he came, he brought No tools? So I let them use mine. The next day he did not show up or answer his phone, so I called Home Advisor.

He said he was concerned about a neighbor calling the police, but I told him prior this neighbors son may come out and if he does, tell him to speak to me. So after a call with Home Advisor, I assured him there is no problem unless he was worried that his crew are not legal. I also helped them the whole day and paid his workers for an extra hour they said he Ramiro will not pay them for. I told Ramiro I will have the container moved by Friday, so he sent a text say he will start Monday.

He did not show or call. Tuesday, I tried to call but he did not answer, so I sent an email. He replied saying rain today came tomorrow. It did not rain Monday or Tuesday.

I tried calling but no answer so again I sent an email and he replied, "I'm sick. I let you know when. Fill more good" This I did not believe. I also told Ramiro I need this done ASAP because of the personal issues regarding my mother.

I called Home Advisor again and they said they cant do anything because I did not pay him or have a written contract. I told them it was verbal because he started the work and said he was coming to do the driveway, but never showed. They tried to call him be he did not answer the phone for them or return there call. He did not ask for a deposit, but I did pay him workers after they finished the fence, even though I had to correct a few things they did not do right.

Ramiro is also listed under Angies list.. houzz.com as well as others. Since I paid for the crane to move the container, I am sort of stuck and have to hire another contractor, which is not easy. Home Advisor should remove him and the others as well if this is how he does business.

I am sure I will have to pay more for another contractor and it puts me in a bind to pick one fast since I cant leave this 8' x 8' x 20' sea container in my front yard for to long.

On Home Advisor he says he has been in business for 16 years, but according to the Corporation records, it says since 2013. They all say that they check background of all companies, but that is the owner only, not the workers, so beware and try to find what ever you need that pays for there own add.
