My husband and I are in an emergency situation where we were unlawfully pushed out of our home of over 5 years by our landlord whom we thought was not just good business, but a good guy. (Sorry, giving the backstory so you understand the severity)
So, basically, we have just encountered loss of home, INTENSE terror, and overwhelming stress etc etc.
We had to find a hotel that was pet friendly. I spent HOURS scouring through online ads, search engines and discount travel sites, coupons, etc etc etc. I made SURE to check that we are brining pets and that was part of the criteria of the search itself.
I am legally blind. I was born with cataract and I do not have lenses in my eys.
That means, that I can't see small items, too much sun and too much darkness completely blind me. Like, I HAVE to have a pre max phone in order to utilize the accessibility and larger screen features or I can't even use my phone.
So, That being said. . .
. and Remember, I was the one who was frantically searching to find a room for at least a week, that allows pets and was in our budget, within the acceptable radius of my husbands job.
We have two dogs. One of which is a certified assistance animal. However, I may have spoiled her away from some of her training and I wasn't doing a good job about keeping up with the documentation required.
. . again moving all belongings in storage unit and moving bags.
My husband was bringing up the dogs as I was having a panic attack (over the situation we are going through, not the hotel or its staff) And the front desk attendant informed him that there was no notice of us bringing a dog and that there would be an extra fee for them. We had just paid over 430$ after leaving another hotel that we paid way too much for, and so.
. . funds were, low and We were going to leave, But leaving THAT moment meant we'd still be charged for the night plus I had used a. bar of soap and a wash rag trying to calm down and breath normally.
During check in, it was dimly lit in the front desk area and I couldn't see anything I was doing and I am super embarrassed about being well, disabled. So thats part of what triggered the afore mentioned panic attack. So, my husband requested that we go ahead and stay the night and front desk attend was more than understanding, and agreed to adjust us the following day during check out for the dog fee, and refund the 6 days we would not be staying. She did inform us of a cancellation fee on top of the 20$ per dog.
(Which was fine I didn't care about that. . . I just didn't know)
So, the next day my husband went to check out and the person minding the front desk was actually the janitor.
I don't know if he wears multiple hats only pointing it out so pinpointing the person I'm referring to is easier for you. Anyways, my husband was again trying to tell them we did check the pets section and made sure to specifically locate a pet friendly hotel, I am legally blind and I did not see any fine print. (I mean, I can't see it to know that I need to see it for real) And, when asked to pay a fee I had no issue with that.my husband did inform the staff that one of our dogs is a service dog BUT, we didn't have her vest or credentials properly displayed as is the regulations, so thats on. us..
This man, this person who is the reason I will never ever stay with choice hotels as long as I live going forward.
. . He asked my husband about my disability. My husband said that I am legally blind and the man standing in at front desk asked him to 'show me papers saying she's blind?
How do we know she's blind? she could be lying."
I was feeling humiliated and embarrassed as it was. . .But that was a new level of humiliation and hurt I had not endured since the fifth grade.Because that is NOT okay.
My husband was telling him to watch what he says and that he can't legally say that and he replied to Keith (husband) That we weren't getting any of our money back and we had to leave So I went down to the front desk.
Not only is it illegal for him to say that, It is customer abuse, discrimination, and prejudice and just wrong. I wasn't asking for anything free, no special discounts or hook ups, had no problem with the pet fee full price per dog even though the law actually states he cannot ask to see credentials because according to the American with Disabilities Act, expectations when staying at any hotel in the states the staff is allowed to ask two questions
1. Is the dog a service animal required because of a disability?
2. What work or task has the dog been trained to perform?
My disclosure of my personal handicap is covered under the HIPPA laws and also This is a quote from the ADA "Under the ADA, persons with disabilities have several rights.
However, you will still be expected to follow the rules of the hotel as they are set forth for all their visiting clients.
Your service dog must be under your control at all times, whether this is by means of a leash, hand gestures, or voice control. Your dog cannot become unruly. In addition, if your service dog were to damage anything in the hotel room, you are still liable for the cost of those damages."
I understand that I do not use a cane, and appear to be able to see, and I do not mind letting people know that I cannot see, I mean, I do mind but, in life if you don't inform the people around you then they can't help or empathize or even just be understanding. Sometimes I just need help, or even just a little longer to focus or find something.
Here's an example of my vision, Aside from the fact may eye doctor told me that my eyes are the worst he's ever seen without being completely blind.
Those 2500$ vacuums the 'indestructible' ones that the salesman still comes directly to your home and demonstrates in order to sell. My parents bought one when I was an about 14 and less than 20 minutes later I broke it. t was so broken that my mother had to go to the local box store and bought an upright I think hoover brand vacuum. Guess what, I broke that too less than 20 minutes after she brought it home.
Im laughing now because that was years ago. And I have come to understand that there are things that I just can't do. I can vacuum a floor now, but I have to use a broom and sweep it first beforehand.
I learned that, the world will never work around me. If I want things done, I have to work around thew world.
I am humiliated and embarrassed when the fact that I can't see becomes an issue like when I was crying in the lobby of the hotel when I was trying to check in.
I had dropped my credit card and its white and I could not find it and the front desk attendant did not understand what was going on and was grown impatient with me. - Because I can't change that. I have zero control over it. I can't drive, I had to take the bus home my last day of senior year, I was made fun of by my abusive family for wanting to get my drivers license and they proactively would tease and mock me about it.
I've lost jobs, I've not been able to do normal things and I have had to walk everywhere I wanted to go. . . or pay EXCESSIVE amount of money for a cab.
Do you know how humiliating it is to pull up to work in a. taxi? loose money going to work, I've been told to just my job now, when I have asked the human resources department about any inside information on carpools or government programs? I used to be a single mother and Like I said had to walk to work..
get a call from the kids school and have to walk to get them when they are sick.
. . or the most absolute horrifying and humiliating experience in my entire life, My daughter had gotten head lice one time. And I had nobody to help me.
I was doing the shampoo and the combing, using magnifying classes and all the lamps in the house, I was washing the sheets, etc etc etc. . . .
Every time I would take her back in she'd get sent home. I was unable to work and I was spending that lice shampoo and home spray money and I offered to pay people, begged my family everything, Nobody helped me. She was out of school for almost two weeks and the school told me that if she didn't come back without any lice or knits they were going to call social services on me. I had no choice.
. . and to this day I will never get the sound she made crying out of my head. .
. I had to shave my little girl bald. I felt like a piece of human trash and a failure as a mother. I felt so, so, so ashamed, and so bad for her.
She is mullato and she had the most beautiful tiny spiral curls. . . big ole poof.

I'm crying right now as I type this.
I need you to understand these things. The fifth grade, I know was the last year that others got away with poking fun of me because I asked the teacher for a few minutes with he class and I proceeded to educate them about my condition and told them going forward anyone that made fun of me better be saying it as they run because I was going to come at them with the force of a thousand moons in a two piece and a biscuit.
(I got suspended like 4 times total)
I am fat. . . I don't care if you make fun of that.
. . shoot, I'll help you . .
. I like snacks. Snacks and naps are my jam. People don't like the way I talk.
. . I became a chef because I got a mouth and I like to cuss. .
. so I know I don't know how to behave. I'm a hot mess. .
. all that is okay because I CHOOSE those behaviors and I can choose to change them.
I cannot do anything about my eye sight.
So back to the event, I went down tot he front desk to confront him. I was asking what his deal was there was a woman at the front with him now, not the same as the previous day.And She was trying to keep him in check and keep things calm. I went down there and I asked him
"do you understand that you CANNOT ask me to prove my disability to you?
you can't say things like that as if I"m not a person. I'm a jester for you to laugh at and perform on command." He was yelling about the dogs and the pet fee. I have ZERIO idea why. I told him we never asked for a waived pet fee, Not once.
We did not know the pet fee policy and once we found out and knew we wouldn't be able to pay it on top of the other extra hundred we had to pay during check in after I prepaid online, We were checking out. But since we were going to be charged for the first night regardless.. we stayed and the agreement to pay a cancelation fee, and get the rest after that in a refund was already agreed upon by the initial check in staff and had nothing to do with him.
He began to scream at me like one does before putting hands on a person. He is a solid 6ft and probably 250-325lb to my 4 foot 11 inches, blind and well.
. . yeah I'm not skinny lol but I am short and blind. I did tell him lower his tone with me or I would call the police.
He's still going on about the pet fee WHICH I DO NOT UNDERSTAND. and I told him look, I'm legally blind and I must have missed some kind of alert or asterisk telling me about the pet fee on top of the other fee which was supposed to be like 7$ a day (oh yeah I did look up the pet policy at this specific branch before checking in and didn't see anything about the fee there, again not saying it isn't there saying I did not see it. Remember frantic and blind)
So, I told him legally we could have not paid for one of the pet deposits if I wanted to push it but I'm not because I understand my dog as wonderful and well behaved as she is and so pretty. .
. did not appear to be on the clock when we arrived and thats fine. its on me whatever.
I told him look its not about the fees I don't care about that im down here because what you said to my husband and how you spoke about me made me feel like I'm not even a person and I want to let you know so you can understand and maybe adapt in how you approach people because the next person might be the one to press charges. And at this point I'm so upset that I"m crying and shaking.
And he's telling me 'you can't even have dogs in the lobby but you keep bringing them in."
We literally were told thats the only way we could go. Id rather not go through the lobby personally. But the janitor was working on the building I guess when we checked in (thats this guy btw) and theres was building materials and supplies all over outside on all floors the staircase was inaccessible to guests. As well as all three landings and the water wasn't on to the room either when we first checked in.
So, what else were we supposed to do?
thats literally what we were told to do walk though the lobby take the elevator up.
So, He's yelling about us taking our highly trained , well behaved, quiet, pets on their leads and harness'' and he starts slamming his hand some papers taped to the wall and screamed at me "CAN'T YOU SEE THAT? CAN'T YOU READ ARE YOU TOO STUPID TO READ?" I was like having a hard time at this point and I told him that No not only am I smart but I have more drive than NASCAR. I am literally a genius on paper. I asked if he could spell paper.
I informed them that I was calling corporate and Priceline to handle this and that if he has anything else to say to me he can speak with the local police department
And at that point went up to the room and followed through with the calls and complaints.
Before we left before she would approve the money to be issued back (which as you all know isn't a several its a refund that can take anywhere from 7-14 days to populate in our account.)
She had to have a member of the housekeeping staff check and make sure we didn't vandalize or steal anything.
We left, with zero money and no where to stay yet.
We got about a mile or two down the road When I realized I was holding the remote to the hotel room tv. We turned around and my husband went in and returned it. So, at this time the housekeeper had already informed the front that we were good to go. .
. I say this because I am not that type of person. to vindictively enjoy when others are hurt or in pain. I don't want to take anything away from the person whose job I want.
I just want to move up too.Theres nothing to gain from enjoying the pain or suffering of another. no matter who it is. So I did request that the employee who treated me to badly not be fired or written up, but rather educated and taught about peoples with disabilities. The only way for someone to learns when they are given the information and the chance to.
If at that point he eventually threatens or degrades, discriminates or otherwise treats another person without respect or mindfulness then thats on him. . . I am actively seriously pleading for this rather than ignoring me, or just cutting ties with him.
Disabled people are not the common issue, and again, the world doesn't work around us. . . But it would be really, nice if it at least didn't make it worse.

I am missing the gene that makes some people give up. And I had an amazing grandfather who inspired me to become an artist and a chef and also a technical advisor. My eye sight is passed down on my fathers side. His father had cataract's and my dad and me.
But my grandfather didn't let a little thing like not being able to see stop him.

His career was spent designing cars for the Ford motor company and illustrating a comic strip in the Sunday paper. My step dad did not get passed the ninth grade and owns 4 business' very successfully might I add. and my grandma was the same height as me, and did everything from lawn care to home remodeling to making clothing and making sure her home was full of fun creations and artsy decorations.

Those are the people that have helped shape me. And the other things.
. . I am grateful for those too. I learned to NEVER give up, How to express myself, never falter and my ultimate goal in this world is to do like them.
Stay hungry for knowledge and learn everything I can. Foster learning in any form. And be comepetetive but only with the person I was yesterday Because there is no such thing as better THAN. The term is 'Better Suited for'.
And Every person on this earth past and yet to come, is the best suited for something. . . The only way for them to find out what that something is, is to keep doing, keep trying, and keep learning new things.
If we don't allow others to learn, especially those who we are responsible for, Then How do we get to tomorrow?

style="Ps: after locating and copying pasting uploading the invoices into this form, I want you to take notice of the last 3 with just dollar amounts in the photos.. every single number was incorrect.
We paid to Priceline when making the reservation the 432. and change dollar amount then the resort fee was over 100$ and THEN the pet fee was in addition.

User's recommendation: upskills and train the entire staff of your stores and call centers and corporate offices on the American Disability Act, Accessibility options, reasonable accomadwtions, and How to openly ask or discuss a subject as possibly hot buttoned as a persons personal disability journey without offending or disheartening them. Making them feel like you're not trying too hard or thatchy aren't complete people. And maybe NOT charge 20 dollars per pet on top of a fee that is way above what the customer is actually being told about on the discount sites (Priceline in this case) And maybe if something LIKE this happens again (I hope not) you will make sure to give a customer accommodations and a close by choice brand room with cheaper rates, or at least REVERSE part of the money they have paid because after we left we didn't not have any money for a room for a few days. . . well, we got a room but the room cost 25$ after coupons and was very shady oh I lied 45 they had a fee at check in as well. . . which we had to borrow. And look pathetic and was actually yelled at for needing bo borrow it . . . and yelled at for basically getting kicked out and all that happening.

First, I had many issues with the room. I rented the jacuzzi room for one night, when I entered the room it stank of smoke, and the smoke alarm was beeping and needed the batteries replaced.
While I was down at the front desk getting batteries, the woman at the desk asked if it smelled like smoke, I told her yes, and she gave me some spray. She also gave me lots of extra towels to put around the jacuzzi tub saying that if water got outside the tub at all that it would drip down and flood the room below me., and inside the bathroom the tile around the tub was completely broken and felt like it was caving in just standing on it was very dangerous. There was a nice cover sheet on the bed but once you moved it the blanket underneath (the comforter) was completely ripped up in lots of places it was basically shredded on both sides, the coffee pot did not have the basket that you put the coffee filter into, so I couldn't use it. I couldn't make coffee.
As well the room was dusty and dirty the bedside tables had a thick layer of dust on them, while I was there I got two phone calls to my room and both of the phone calls did not go through instead when I picked up the phone all I heard what people at the front desk talking, and the person that called me that's what they heard on there end as well. so people could not get through to talk to me if they needed to which was an issue. Also the entire time I was there the toilet was running and so finally I took the top off the back of the toilet to jiggle the part inside to see if maybe it would stop and inside the toilet tank were tampon wrappers and it was leaking down onto the floor. And the breakfast was horrible there was it was just horrible they did not do anything that they should have done for my stay when I went down to the front desk to talk to them about this they told me that I had to wait and talk to the manager because she was not in being a holiday weekend so I documented everything that was going on.
When it was time for me to check out and I went down to pick up my $200 deposit and check out of the room and they went upstairs to check the room and came back down and refused to give me my deposit and they went as far as calling the police and saying that they could not get in contact with their manager but they were not giving me my deposit because the room smell like smoke well I called the manager yesterday she told me that yeah they're not giving me back my deposit because they are now claiming that I broke the tile in the bathroom now they're cleaning that the room was trashed and that they found foils in my room, and I'm not exactly sure what that means, but they said that I'm the one that was smoking in the room and that is absolutely not true I want my money back not just the deposit, but I want what I paid for the room as well, I do have pictures if I will include these pictures I've got a lot of them to show the room, so I mean I have proof of what the room looked like, what the tiles looked like, and everything else.
This is absolutely ridiculous I expect more from this company and this is not acceptable please contact me as soon as possible thank you 425-314-****, thank you. Beth Brenner

We are having to stay here until our home is ready. To start they TRIED to charge us for 2 rooms when we only needed one, the next morning after checking in we found blood/bodily fluids on our comforter that was tucked under the corner of the mattress, we complained & we're given clean ones but was told they are white so are going to have stains, this was not a stain & I have a picture of it, also our room is on 2nd floor & when you walk in a certain spot the floor gives away & you can hear boards moving, we were told the whole carpet would have to come up to be fixed (OK, so why hasnt this been done?) bath tub was very nasty, had to clean myself before using.
Since complaining we have not been able to get any services for clean linens, etc.
have asked numerous times & finally after 10 days was able to get 2 rolls of toilet paper but nothing else (was having to purchase my own before this) then we started being harassed about our 2 dogs (both under 15 lbs.) we were also asked if we had been audited?(WHAT??) & was told WE are being charged for damaged linens & they need to do daily room checks for the remainder of our stay (Ummm, I don't think so) I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. Disgusted and angry family
Booked a 2 queen bed for the night and on the choice hotels site everything looks nice. We get there and there are homeless people on the side walks doing drugs and at the days inn 2 hotels over there were cops everywhere something bad had obviously happened.
We get in the room that was supposed to be non smoking and it smelled like it had been smoked in all the time. There was a plastic bag around the smoke detector so they could smoke without it going off. The carpet is filthy, there were no light bulbs in 2 of the lamps, the plug ins are so worn out that our chargers were just falling out of the wall. We couldnt get our money back and a lady that came in wanted to buy the room from us but the staff wouldnt allow that either.
So were stuck in this *** hole until morning.
This is a $50 room at best so Im extremely angry that its this bad and nasty. I did check for bed bugs and at least we dont have that problem.

This hotel was the worst place we've ever seen. The room was dirty. Old. Tub gross. Looked like someone was laying in the bed. It smelled bad too. TV didn't work right either. We went to a different .

I think the more I write about it the angrier I get. The 250.00 dollars is the value of the Apple Watch complete face I lost
Upon leaving I noticed the face of my Apple Watch had come off. We back tracked everywhere we went after leaving the room but didnt find it.
Checked with the frontdesk but nothing. We asked the maid & manager( I assume) but he refused us access back into the room to double-check, said he could not allow us in since room had been cleaned. I asked to please allow the maid back in & I promised not to touch anything. But I was refused, I offered to pay but still refused, I didnt put my watch on until I was closing up my suitcase to put into the car.
So it could only be in a few places. The man asked the maid if anything had been found in room 122 (our room) and she said no. Then the man repeatedly said how honest the maid is and how thoroughly they clean everything. That no way anything was in the room, still refusing me to double-check.
I knew one his statement was completely untrue since I had left a 1/2 bottle of untouched wine in the refrigerator. After 30 minutes of arguing and pleading to let me check, I had to walk away to avoid saying anything I might have regretted. ? Why could the maid, who cleaned the room, not go back in and allow me to double-check by holding back the hanging over covers to avoid me touching anything?
Or moving a chair so I could look under? Obviously the rooms are not as thoroughly cleaned as I was told. If so, they would have found the 1/2 bottle of wine.
So I was lied to either way. I will be taking this complaint further since it could so easily have been avoided.

According to you, you were fine getting your extra days refunded before you spent your night there. So why did your husband feel the need to go on and on with the janitor covering the front desk when checking out?
He was trying to get the check out process started. On the computer it was still showing the week booking at that time.
Plus, it was like 9:45 so check out was approaching. Plus, I think he was trying to express his apologies for the entire situation and gratitude for the initial agreement to work with us.
We’re not jerks or trying to be the next guest stars of cops or Jerry springer. We actually felt stupid and embarrassed about our financial situation.
