Proper Cloth

Proper cloth is a fully customized dress shirt site with a shop in NYC. Shirts are pricey.

My experience is with the shop but the online system is super easy to navigate and work with also.

I booked an appointment online. PRO TIP - slots after work and on weekends book up fast. There are plenty of slots but they go fast. They are closed on Sundays also.

When i arrived - I saw a pretty open cool working space. The front half of it is for clients to get tailored and teh backhalf is a working area for employees that is covered by a drape. They have plenty of samples out also to browse and a couch to sit on while you wait.

However - i was immediately greeted by my personal tailor, who offered something to drink (nice touch guys! A+ for that one!). We sat at a table and briefly discussed what my goals are for what I am looking for (fit/purpose/etc) and then we went to work on measuring me out using one of their dress shirts. They took a ton of measurements to get things right and always asking how it felt before they inputted the measurement into my profile. FYI - we created a profile on their website before we started.

After measuring - we began working on the small nuances of the dress shirt. Did we want to take a quarter inch off one side so i can have my watch come out? What kind of cuffs and buttons do I want? How many? What kind of collar do I want (BTW - there are tons of choices for this, so ask the professional what is best for your purpose).

Once we had teh overall shirt details down - we went about picking out a color scheme and fabric. I went with the 125 dollar type of fabric rather than their 95 dollar fabric as the tailor explained it was a better fabric and had a better overall feel to it and was more suited for business purposes. THERE ARE A TON OF COLOR SCHEMES. Just check out their website. I am amazed.

After ordering my dress shirt that day - it takes about a FULL two weeks to make it and ship it. Don't worry - Proper Cloth will email you when your item is shipped out from Taiwan. Once it is shipped - it only took 2 days to arrive.

Overall product - First impression - it came in a really fitted box and the presentation was immaculate. Just really good. However - when i touched teh fabric - it felt really cheap and I was not impressed at all. The fit wasn't great also as it was really tight on the chest. However - Proper Cloth combats this as they allow remakes to get the size correct and it's free

I booked a 2nd appointment for a remake and brought in the first dress shirt! They talked to me about how they were going to change it. We ordered a 2nd shirt (aka remake) and it came out well-done. We got it right on the 2nd time and it cost me nothing!

Overall - you will get a fully customized shirt to your liking but the fabric is not good, especially the 125 dollar one. 4 stars for the experience. Not 5 stars b/c the fabric is no good.
