Beware of high interest rates with Progressive Finance

If you pay the loan within the 90 days you will not have a problem. However if you end up having to go beyond the 90 days your finance charge will be outrageous.

I was buying a mattress for just under $800. The interest would have been $600. if I wanted to pay it off within a 12 month period. The salesman knew that the finance charges were way out of line to begin with since I asked him that before he even printed the contract.

He kept ignoring my question, There should be a law to prevent this kind of scam.

MAKE SURE YOU READ THE CONTRACT BEFORE YOU AGREE TO ANYTHING. I am glad I did.

Progressive is scam

90% interest rate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!The contract shows a lot of numbers but never actually shows the %rate on it.These people should be ashamed of themselves.STAY FAR FAR AWAY FROM THIS RIP OFF COMPANY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Standard interest rate for progressive in 39.9% 12 mo

Guest

My experience was pleasant. I went to biglots and found livingroom furniture we liked.

Was gonna charge it but the salesperson advised me of the progressive finance no interest program. He was very honest and open about it telling me that if you plan on making paymemts for a while then its not a great option but if u can pay it off right away its interest free.

Now in your case you cannot blame big lots for you not reading a contract you are signing. I mean seriously if you go to best buy to purchase something how many of their salespeople can tell u what rate you will be paying on a best buy card.

Or any store for that matter.

The sales people are told here's another tool to sell our product. Maybe even some incentive for getting people signed up.

Progressive Finance and Big Lots screwed me!!!

Big Lots told me that the interest would be minimal and that there would be zero interest as long as I payed off my debt for a couch in 90 days. The progressive finance company will purposely set you up to make payment throughout the course of a year instead of the 90 day period, hoping for you to default and set you up for the BANG w/ no lube.

I made an initial deposit of 300 dollars and made steady payments (which they led me to believe were to cover me for the 90 day period) so I would not acrue interest. I even spoke with a Progressive agent 2 weeks before the 90 day period was up and he was totally dismissive and misleading. He did not mention that I was on the Brink of an 80 percent markup. I know owe more than a thousand dollars on top of the one sofa I purchased which was listed for 800, now is costing me $2000 They are misleading unhelpful and screwed me!

Shame on Big Lots and Progressive Finance for their misleading behavior.

This will surely put me in debt and I begged for them to help me but they won't Their plan worked perfectly and I urge everyone to use caution. This is corporate robbery!!!!

This is a pretty standard credit contract for nearly any furniture business who offers any type of financing. They will ALWAYS set the payment out 6-12 or more due to the fact that MOST people will NOT pay the account off within the 90 day period.

This allows customers to have an option if they are unable to do so. You can always ignore the payment terms and pay off in 90 days. However, they have to show you, up front, what the interest will be if you do not. This is the law.

This is the exact scenario they attempt to avoid:

90 day no interest payoff.

90 day term @ $XX for 3 months, with the payoff being before the 90th day.

Customer does not pay off in 90 days. (Contract is now past due because had the customer paid the 3 payments and paid it off, there would be no residual balance owed.)

Now that contract is past due, the balance becomes bad debt collectible and you have one option: pay it off and take the hit on your credit for not fulfilling your legal contract. With the 6-12 month payment set in writing, if you choose to forgo the 90 day interest free terms, you have no consequences as long as you make the monthly payment set in the contract.

No one ripped you off. You did not follow the terms of your contract and you certainly did not read the credit terms.

Guest

My story exactly. Either their same associates don't explain the program right, their great sales people, or Big Lots Corp teach them to say these things to purposely trap people in an agreement.

I would have went to RAC if I wanted to pay double for furniture. At least I would have known up front.

Guest

Okay I have leased from whynotleaseit (sears) and progressive (biglots) their contract is both the same. When you first purchase Your stuff they automatically set up payments according to your pay check.

You have to call after you buy them to set up of you want to pay it off within the 30 60 or 90 days. They dont automatically do it.

Luckily I asked the sales associate about the early payout options and they told me what to.do I happened to look it state's in the contract you need to call to set up the arrangements. Its just like buying a car or a house read read read before you agree to anything that way if you aren't happy with the arrangment you aren't stuck with it.

I love it I have bought 2 tvs stove and fridge from sears and bought a whole living room set and kitchen table from biglots.

It works for me.:) hope this helps.

Thank you for people posting reviews, my family will not apply with big lots finance company either.

It is for people who actually read what they are signing. Big Lots is not your financier.

People asking Big Lots the contract terms instead of the lender is crazy.

More crazy for not reading their contract before they sign so that they understand how a XX period no interest term works. It is fairly simple.

Guest

I've leased through other companies and I have never had a problem. For me I add the following:

1.

Add the purchase item

2. Add the leasing fee

3.

Add the sales tax

4. Divide the entire total by 12 (for the 90 days)

Guest

Thanks for letting me know, now I won't apply!!!!

Guest

They won't come after you hard if you call and set up payments with them. They are helpful if you speak to the right agent.

Trust me they don't want to take your furniture or whatever you purchased back because they lose money. Call and try to set up payments maybe once a month kinda thing.

Guest

It's all in the contract! If you would *** read it then you'll see it!

Also mentions that you have to call to set up the 90 days! It won't automatically set you up with it.

People always whining for no good reason! READ YOUR CONTRACT!!!!

GOOD FINANCIAL SERVICE!!

I had an excellent experience with Progressive Finance. Another comment sounds like a retailer stuck them with their own finance fees.

I was stuck out of town with 3 flat tires from a spill on the interstate and not enough cash on me to pay for them. I didn't have my credit card and couldn't withdraw 2500 bucks out of an ATM without calling my bank first. I decided to buy new rims as well. All charges and finance fees were open and discussed with the retailer.

It wasn't 80% it was 6%. I paid it the next day and was charged 0 interest.

Progressive Finance...Helping or Hurting those with Bad Credit?-

I went to the mall with $200 to buy the hubby a necklace that cost $550...(isn't that what we all do..lol) Anyways...happen to find a jewelry store offering 90days same as cash..and no credit check...because I never qualify for credit...well at the time. I applied got approved for $1200 and asked the guy 101 questions that he could not answer AT ALL...So because I had almost half the money I still went ahead with the finance...and only then after I said yes, and he printed out the lease did I get my questions answered.

So my point there, is that not everyone relies on what the sales man decides to tell them. I asked questions, but because he had no information on the details he could not answer them. But I was prepared for some craziness. So I saw the insane interest rate, and pretty much shrugged my shoulders and signed away...but not before adding a matching necklace making my purchase closer to $900.

Because when it is something like that...you either take it or leave it...don't complain...just make sure you pay off in the 90 days. Exactly what I did. And I plan on going back this week to get a ring for the hubby. And I plan of paying it off in 90 days so I do not pay the insane interest.

This company offers payday loans in some states, so this can tell you what type of lender they really are. HIGH INTEREST. My only complaint was that they kept calling me saying that I missed a payment, when I actually didn't I just moved my payment date. So On the third call for the same thing...I just told them schedule a payment to come out of my account for the entire balance...the lady was shocked...and I never had to deal with them again.

No biggy, but I will add that you technically can get 95 days same as cash.

If you come up on your 90 days you can ask that they extend the 90 days for an additional 5 days so that you can still take advantage of the deal. Good Luck happy shopping!

Unspoken words that can end up costing you a lot more than the furniture

I was also told that they report to all the major credit bureaus and that the place that. I received my purchases did not report, and they have a bunch of nice and decent sales representatives.

Now after reading the newspaper, and hearing from a lot of disgruntled customers, I am not really sure what to think about Progressive Financial. And I would like to think that I am not this gullible.

Your company has a lot of customers, so I don't think it could all be that bad. I would, however, like for someone to go over this with me and be COMPLETELY HONEST and not just trying to make a sale.

Just read your contract?

Guest

I had the same thing happen to me. I called today as my last payment is this week, to find out what I had to do to have them report to the credit bureaus.

When I first purchased my furniture I was told by the sales rep that once my payments were paid in full, I was to call customer service so they would report to the credit bureaus.

The woman I spoke to on the phone at Progressive Finance told me they do not report to the credit bureaus and the best they could do was to give me a letter that it was paid in full in case I needed it to get other credit. What I needed was to show more credit establishment which I thought this would do :-(

Disappointed!!

Progressive Financial - Credit Card Payment Review from Seattle, Washington

Hi watch out for this company, if that's what you want to call it. What ever you do never use your girlfriends, or your boyfriends credit card to make a payment.

Once they have the credit card number your screwed. Even if the card name doesn't match the name on the account with progressive *** they will still use the card to make payments. I want to say thats fraud, but they say its legal?

So if you find a credit card on the side walk use it for a payment and never make another one and that card will make it for you and progressive will send you a thank-you email saying they used it for payment. All I say is they are ***.

It would not be fraud unless you committed fraud by using their credit card without their permission. You also agreed to their terms by signing their agreement.

You should always read what you sign! Common since!

Could have at least pulled my hair and slapped my *** first

I need a new mattress, so I go online to Mattress Giant and apply for their no credit check financing (b/c I didn't qualify for the regular financing). The finance company (Progressive Finance) approves me for up to $1100.00, needless to say I was happy. I went to the store and looked at the selection and decided on a mattress/box that was $899.00, after they added taxes and delivery came out to $1050.00

The salesman was telling me about how the financing works, the terms (90 days same as cash, 12 mo. with a "little bit of interest" or if I pay it off after 90 days but before the year it is 65% of the interest owed. He told me I would probably be looking at around $120 a month in payments but we wouldn't know for sure until they got the agreement back from Progressive financial and since it was Sunday that would probably be the next day.

Monday afternoon when I go to the store to sign the agreement boy was I shocked! That bed that I am paying 1050.00 for ended up costing me $880 in finance fees! Yes, you read that right! An over 80% mark up! Now, I know I don't have the best credit and the negative that is on it is from several years ago but if you look at the current activity you see that I have a car note that I have been paying on for 3 years (which I am getting raped on too) and have never been late or missed a payment so I just don't understand the 84% mark up.

I'm sure the only way they are getting away with this is b/c it turns out it is a lease to own agreement (kinda like a rent a center) with a purchase option and since they know that ppl like me who made some *** mistakes when they were younger are between a rock and hard place and have to take what they can get but that is really a bit much.

The finance company is suppose to call today or tomorrow to work out which terms I want and what day of the week I want the payments to come out and I plan to ask them if the 90 day terms will still report to my credit and if so I guess I will just have to suck it up and pay the over $300/ mo (more than my car payment) to avoid the asinine interest charges.

Shame, Shame on you Mattress Giant for associating with this kind of tactic and to Progressive Financial for the *** pounding you just gave me!

The point of progressive leasing is to give you 90 days to pay off the item, I've dealt with the company numerous times and a life saver for furniture when I don't have all the money at once, as for the cost of the mattress you chose to pay that amount. Honestly you could of bought an air mattress and save up your money...btw, if they charged "small interest fees" they wouldn't have a company for small minded people like you, to rip off it's your fault that you can't read your own contract.

Any sales person will throw anything your way to earn commission.... I personally bought furniture that cost 1500 and was able to pay every penny in 90 days, because I know what I can afford, if you can't afford it then don't buy it....not rant about it

Guest

I also had the 90 day and to me it was great. We just need to get what we can afford and not go over that.

I purchased a mattress set for my son paid with in the 90 days , paid about 1000.00. I will be using them again.

Guest

I've used this a bunch of times. Never a problem, I just stay under what I can pay off.

Guest

Hey ,I have been with progressive financing for a year now , they let you know before you sign anything also how is it their fault ??to me it's business especially if you have been declined due to bad credit, that's your own problem they don't force you to purchase anything through them ,I always pay off within 90 days I end up paying extra 100 to 200 bucks interest, no big deal to me cos I feel like they helped me out a lot..

Guest

DO NOT DO BUSINES WITH THEM BECAUSE THEY WILL OVER CHARGE YOU FOR A MATTRESS THAT COST $500.00 3x MORE AFTER90 DAYS. GGGGG...

I HATE THEM AND YOU WILL TOO. So where is my money that I paid in those 90 days around $200

I've used them in a pinch and they have been fine. I don't pay extra interest because I pay them off in the 90 days.

They even give you a three day grace period for the 90 days.

The terms are spelled right out.

If you're appalled by the high interest, pay it off. It's that simple.

Same here. I've used them twice. And made sure I paid them within the 90 days.

I have used them 4 times and needless to say I don't have any complaints..I wish they did report to the credit bureau. If you pay it in the 90 days you will have no problem

Guest

My fiance and I have Been with progressive leasing for almost three years now and not once have we had a problem with them..the firsttime we used them they gave us almost $1000.00 in credit .we only spent 400.00 of that and we took the whole 12 months to pay because we actually forgot that the payment was taken directly out of our account on payday. It was as of we never seen the money ...we paid that off and then decided that we wanted a new bed for us they approved us for almost $3000.00 the second time ..we didn't use all of it that time either,we had that one almost played for and we just recently got my son a new bedroom set..and out of all threetimes we have NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH THEM..If it wasn't for them giving us a chance we wouldn't have what we have so thank you PF!!!...

And those of you who don't understand stuff like this the company has to make its money too. Ppl like us made mistakes as we were younger and that's okay bc we are paying the consequences for our actions for that time ..and paying three times the amount that it's worth is what I like to call Reeping what you sewed ...

THE WORST COMPANY TO USE!!

AFTER MAKING A PURCHASE FOR A SET OF RIMS, THE STORE USED PROGRESSIVE FINANCE TO FINANCE THE LOAN. THIS IS WHICH WAS MY SECOND PURCHASE USING PROGRESSIVE FINANCE.

KEEP IN MIND THAT THE FIRST FINANCE LOAN WAS OKAY. SEEMS LIKE AFTER THE FIRST TRANSACTION, THEY START TREATING THE CUSTOMER LIKE *** USUALLY AFTER AN APPROVAL, THE PERSON HAS TO CALL IN TO CONFIRM THE TERMS (MONTHS, PAYMENT OPTIONS, ETC.) WHY WOULD THIS COMPANY CLAIM THAT THEIR CALLS WOULD BE RECORDED BUT THEY CANNOT FIND ANY CALLS REGARDING MY TERMS!?!? THIS IS RIDICULOUS! ALL I GET FROM THE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS "SORRY BUT WE ARE BOUND BY THE TERMS OF THE LEASE/LOAN" x4 OVER AND OVER AND OVER!!

THOSE CUSTOMER SERVICE REPS ARE LIKE ROBOTS AND THEIR ONLY FUCNTION IS ONLY TO GO IN CIRCLES! I PAID OFF THE LOAN THE SAME SAY THAT I FOUND OUT WHAT WENT WRONG AND ENDED UP PAYING $300 FINANCE CHARGE FOR A $600 LOAN. *** NEVER WILL I EVER USE THIS RETARDED COMPANY AGAIN.

OUT OF SIGHT, OUT OF MIND. THIS COMPANY NEEDS TO JUST RUN OUT OF BUSINESS!

Progressive sold or gave out my personal information

I applied for a loan on their website. After filling out the questionaire, they said that they could help me at this time, but gave a list of lenders.

I decided not to contact any of the lenders, but begin to receive numerous email stating that I am approved. I am furious about having my personal information just handed to any and everyone. The next day the call started coming, back to back, all day and over into late evenings.

PLEASE do not do apply for a loan from them. Now I have to change all my personal information at my own expense.

Extremely angry and dissapointed

Just woke up this morning and checked my bank account to find it negative 100$. I had 15$ in my account to cover my netflix and apparently progressive decided that i was going to get my account debited weekly instead of bi-weekly like my contract said.

They debited my account 30$ which caused me to have an overdraft fee. An hour later, netflix tried to debit my account for 7$ (which i originally had in the account) but I was now in the negative so I was charged a second overdraft fee. When I talked to my bank they told me that if progressive would refund my payment to them than the bank would refund my overdraft fees.

When I finally got through to progressive they started to tell me that I signed a contract for them to take weekly payments out (which I didn't.) Now I have to come up with 100$ to get my account out of the negative. I am extremely pissed off and will never use them again

You must work for the company or something he/she clearly states that the contract says bi weekly
