Cold Calling Fraud(s)

Portfolio Recovery associates, also known AKA anchor recovery Associates AKA portfolio Associates AKA pra3 has been cold calling consumers, those that are not in debt and have no debts at all, attempting to obtain person information along with Social Security numbers. The callers can be aggressive.

As well, they will call regarding a relation, being a relative of friend, that you are associated with calling you for your personal information and further information on that person, even though there is no debt. This is a new type of fraud that we are seeing. The same businesses are harassing other businesses to solicit debt collection business. They will use false telephone numbers to contact consumers and businesses, and will insult consumers, even though no one owes debts.

It has been reported that this business has also made and filed false reports to credit reporting bureaus, even though there are consumers who have never taken debts. This organization has been taken to court from in 2015 and as recently as March of 2023, for such frauds and fraudulent filings of outdated debts, as well as consumers who have never been in debt, or even borrowed to be in debts at all.

Portfolio Recovery is corrupt and needs to be shut down by the CFPB

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Portfolio recovery is a corrupt debt collection agency that has been busted on multiple occasions by the CFPB for their rogue debt collection practices. They buy old debts with outdated information which leads to them spam calling the wrong person. Not to mention that they also try to wrongly collect fake debts and also try to collect from identity theft victims.

They are also known to be very unresponsive. They fumble whenever someone questions their antics and they resort to asking for personal information over the phone. Just like video game NPCs they read some script that says something like we cant help you if you dont give us your SS number.

Ive about had it with these people. There is absolutely no reason why these *** debt collectors should be calling my household. Theyve been spam calling my home phone for several months now. They would normally call anywhere from once a day to once every other day between 8:00AM-4:00PM. And its always from a different spoofed number with a local area code. With that being said, their call frequency has decreased within the past couple weeks, now they only call anywhere from 2-3 times a week but that is still not good enough. I want them to stop trying to contact my household completely. We have nothing to discuss!

Nobody in my household owes a penny to anyone. So either

A. PORTFOLIORECOV has the wrong number

B. PORTFOLIORECOV are trying to pull a fast one by trying to collect a fake debt.

C. Or someone in my household is a victim of identity theft.

Its highly unlikely that anybody in my household is a victim of identity theft since all our credit scores are in excellent shape, our credit reports dont show any accounts we dont recognize and no creditor/loaner has contacted us about any suspicious activity. So its most likely that portfolio recovery has the wrong number but they are too incompetent and corrupt to even notice or care.

I hope the CFPB puts portfolio recovery out of business, its disgusting that portfolio recovery is allowed to continue practicing debt collection when they are a repeat offender that is obviously not interested in following the rules. The CFPB needs to make an example out of Portfolio recovery as a message to all other debt collectors throughout the country.

User's recommendation: If you know you for a fact you don’t owe a debt: ignore and block their calls, report Portfolio recovery to the CFPB if their calls persist.

Portfolio Recovery - Harm credit during pandemic

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Portfolio Recovery only purpose is to report negative to your credit. They buy debt for next to then report you late during a period which they did NOT own the debt. The date is based on a specific date. This allows the company to report a consumer late every month. They provide no service except to enrich themselves.

Shady Company

Paid account off. I was promised that "within 30 days" it would be removed from the credit bureau. I am still fighting with them to have it removed, and they have come up with excuse after excuse. They WILL take you to court, so if you have any receipts, or reason to believe it is not collectable, save and document EVERYTHING. Every time you call them, DOCUMENT what is said.

  • No follow through
  • Excuses

You are correct, document every. Nothing should be verbal, email ors send them certified letters.

However, I'm sure they won't "remove" from your credit.

Just update to reflect paid in full, paid as agreed or settled. And the process can take 45-60 days depending on their reporting cycle.

Paid my charge off from a Credit Card that Portfolio recovery bought for pennies on dollars. I paid my account off completely from original amount through Portfolio recovery and still got a 1099 and notices from IRS of additional income . This is insane .

I keep receiving calls from Portfolio Recov

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I receive calls from Portfolio Recov on a daily basis. I never answer the phone. I also never give out my cell phone number, so I know it is not a debt call. They never leave a message. I block the number and then the next day I get a call from Portfolio Recov with a number from a different state??? This is harassment and since I don't have any information in my voice message, they don't know who they are calling.

User's recommendation: Do not answer these calls. There are also reports about a scan about supposed debt and they don't even have the name of the person they are calling.
