Trying to contact resort to put 2 reservations rooms across from each other together for May 6-13 confirmations

AI Highlights
  • - No reply after multiple calls, emails, and a letter.
  • - Request two adjacent rooms for two handicapped travelers; May 6–13, 2023.

I have called, emailed, wrote a letter and nobody replies. I am trying to contact the resort to put 2 reservation rooms next to each other for my family to be close together since we have 2 handicapped people in our party and the rest of the family helps us. The reservations are May 6-13, 2023.

User's recommendation: It's very difficult to get a reply when you call, write and email them.

Owned sine 2006 and Exhausted Trying to Contact Someone!

AI Highlights
  • - Misled about benefits of Playa Grande timeshare.
  • - Cannot reach anyone to pay maintenance or book a vacation; records and funds appear missing.

I bought my timeshare back in 2006 and definitely was mislead on the benefits of owning a timeshare at Playa Grande. I have been trying for weeks now to reach someone to pay my maintenance fee and book a vacation with no luck.

Different excuses every time. Playa Grande/Solmar are changing maintenance companies and now are unable to locate my membership information? Unreal?! Horrible customer service, unprofessional and extreme difficulty scheduling a vacation to a timeshare I thought I had 30 years to enjoy?!

Very disappointed! What's the benefit in owning when you cant even go to the resort and take a vacation without wasting hours of your time trying to schedule? Not to mention they do not have record of my membership or the money I have paid?

I am beyond upset and need to know how this is going to change. It shouldn't be this complicated!

Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution

User's recommendation: Do not buy a timeshare

Membership Number 23494 ID # 24491

AI Highlights
  • - Bought timeshare with brother on 7/10/2006 for $9,500; he stopped paying maintenance in 2019.
  • - Monterey says I owe $2,237.40; no breakdown, foreclosure.

Hello,

I purchased my timeshare with my brother 7/10/2006 for $9500.00. My brother Jonathan and I agreed to pay the maintenance fees between us and we paid off the purchase price of $9500.

It has just come to my awareness that my brother has not paid the maintenance fees since 2019. Immediately upon finding this information out I have attempted to call Playa Grande, Resortcom.com, RCI and spent hours trying to reach someone with no luck until one of sales reps gave me Monterey Financial. Upon speaking to them they advised me that I owe $2,237.40 but are unable to tell me the breakdown of these fees and also they informed me that my timeshare has been foreclosed on?

Why has NO ONE tried to reach out to me before all of this? I am writing this email hoping to gain some clarification and information before contacting my attorney.

If Monterey Financial is a bill collection agency why have they never contacted me or my brother? I can be reached at 816-682-****.

Thank you,

Elizabeth Chiesa

Very shady reservation practices

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - Paid upfront for 8 nights in May 2021 to lock a good deal for December.
  • - Modified Oct 2021 to 7 nights; system billed $800+ taxes as a new reservation.

Booked a stay at the Playa Grande in May 2021, to stay in late December 2021. Paid up front for 8 nights, because paying in full at the time ensured a good deal.

In October 2021, a change in our situation necessitated a change in our reservation.

I clicked on the link for Modify Reservation in the receipt I'd received, and was able to shorten my stay from 8 nights to 7.

A few weeks before we were to arrive (but after the cancellation date), I received an email stating that I owed $800+ in taxes and fees, which unfortunately hadn't been added to my charge when I modified the reservation in October, due to a glitch in their system on the day I modified. So instead of what I thought was a ~$330 credit at the resort, I still owed an additional ~$470!

It was at this time that I was informed that when a person modifies a reservation, the resort system treats it as a new reservation, and books the room at that day's rate! Although I argued with several people that this was not a modification, they said there was nothing they could do.

So instead of getting the good rate I had booked in May, I ended up paying a much higher rate for fewer nights.I've been trying to contact the resort for a month now, and the phone number on their website doesn't go through.

Loss:
$850

Preferred solution: Price reduction

User's recommendation: Beware if you need to modify a reservation!

AI Highlights
  • - 17-year timeshare with 9 weeks worldwide; promised to rent unused weeks and send checks.
  • - Sales rep who sold us the deal no longer works there.

They sold me a time share for 17 years with 9 weeks to use at different places in the world with a stipulation that they will rent out the weeks I don't use and send me checks. After weeks of requesting information how to set up and release those weeks, they said they don't actually rent out the weeks on behalf of anyone. They also said the sales rep that sold us the deal doesn't work there anymore.

Pros:
  • Great facilities
  • Great location
Cons:
  • Unable to get a manager to call back
  • Dishonest practices
  • Lying sales reps

Playa Grande Timeshare Rip-off!

AI Highlights
  • - Promised: 34 years, 1 week/year, trade anywhere, $5,500.
  • - Actual: 15 weeks over 30 years; rising fees, $200/week transfer, $89/yr RCI; seeking exit.

Was sold a timeshare with the following understanding:

- 34 years

- one week available per year for the life of the timeshare

- can trade in my weeks for anywhere in the world

- all of the above included for a one-time cost of $5500.

What I was really sold:

- 15 weeks (a far cry from 34) spread out over the course of 30 years.

- maintenance fees that have risen $100 in 4 years!!!!

- transfer fees of $200/week

- added cost of an RCI membership @$89/year (for a timeshare that I don't get to use every year).

How do I get out of this? Planning vacations has been a nightmare ever since.

Loss:
$20000

Isn't there a contract you have to READ and SIGN for this? There is a reason people don't typically recommend a timeshare.

The contract that I read at the point of sale included language which was more centric to my financial commitment to pay the $5500 in full rather than the terms and conditions of ownership, all sent at a later time. Even those terms and conditions use very vague language.

Much of the second half of my complaint was uncovered after numerous calls between RCI customer service and limited replies from Playa Grande.
