My Audi died-timing chain issue

Audi #1723566
I had an Audi some 20 or so years ago, purchased as a replacement for a VW I had. With both, the dealer strongly advised I follow the manual's maintenance protocols which meant taking them in at periodic mileage points---which I had to pay for, of course. Both cars were nothing special and the parts for each were rather more expensive than for an American car. I dumped the Audi and went back to GM and Ford.

Unauthorized withdrawal after telling them to remove my bank/cc info

OptumRx #1723564
Your experience is but another example of why you should never, ever use a debit card or authorize someone to just take money from your account. If you really have to pay for something online or with anything other than a check or cash, then always use a credit card. That way you do not pay until the end of the month and if a problem you can dispute the charge. You apparently called them an they assured you your request would be honored. Calling a company and believing what they say on the phone is a serious mistake. They lie or forget to do what you asked. Now you know.

Well, you can forget about some "class action" or similarly popular action people like to throw around. Your mistake was in not calling them when the bill went up and if they gave you a song and a dance about what you owe cancelling them immediately---not just paying what you believed you owed. Whether or not you had an 817 credit score or not, them turning you over to collections will have a negligible effect on whatever your score was. You are correct in the arrogance and strong-arm tactics of these companies---they all operate the same. Just ignore any calls or letters from a collection agency and forget about them. They will stop dunning you eventually.

The proper place to lodge a complaint about something like this is with the restaurant manager when it happens. You might be correct that the waitress is delaying giving you change in the hope that you will eventually just say to heck with it and walk out, leaving her with a tidy tip. I do hope you didn't tip her after waiting a long time for your change. TIP is shorthand for "to insure prompt service" not something one does automatically regardless of service. Americans are so naive about the tipping process.

Barely Counts as Insurance

Apparently, the company you work for chose to have cheap, high deductible health insurance coverage for their employees instead of a more costly, low deductible plan. You would have been given information on not only how much your premiums would be but, more importantly information on the yearly deductibles and how much Blue Cross would pay for various medical visits and procedures, etc. The days of employers offering great medical insurance plans, at least for small companies is now gone. You can still file bankruptcy and get rid of most of these medical bills if the need arises. However, you should contact the hospitals, doctors, etc. and tell them of your problems paying and see if you can negotiate a smaller amount(s) due and then devise a payment plan you can pay each month. Good luck, but don't blame Blue Cross---they sold what your employer wanted.

Walmart #1722745
When checking out at all, and I mean all stores is is wise to make sure you watch as each individual item is scanned and the price appears on the monitor or screen. This allows you to verify the price is being scanned correctly. Stores must make alot of money scamming shoppers by over-charging this way as it has become all-too-common an occurrence. In the case of Walmart, the cashier can scan a couple of items before the monitor shows the prices---their "lag" time fromm the time the scan to the display of the price has been a long-standing thing and it makes one suspicious as to the reason why. Once you have all your items on the counter, THEN tell the cashier to start scanning---slowly---so you can watch as each price appears. I wonder just how much extra money stores make by erroneous scanning?

We used to shop at Meijer 3-4 times a week until we got so frustrated by the lack of adequate cashiers and the attempted scams at checkout that we now shop at Kroger for groceries and any other store for general merchandise. There is no good reason for Meijer to have only one manned lane open in the morning and putting up with blocked lanes by employees in the grocery section stocking at 9 or 10 in the morning instead of at night when there are less customers. The employees who say "it is on the truck" or "it will arrive tomorrow, etc." are thus correct. You can look up this inventory management system if you wish a more detailed explanation of how it works. Or, given that you are complaining about Walmart, perhaps they have the items in the back but the employees haven't bothered to go back there and get the stuff to put on the shelves. Planter's used to be THE brand of peanuts to buy because they were priced reasonably and tasted great, with enough salt to make eating peanuts of all kinds a pleasure and treat. No longer, sad to say. Where once, Planter's had a large share of the market, nowadays there are other brands to choose from. The new "trick" used by Planter's and others is to use sea salt in an apparent cave to those who think we should eat less salt. The result of course, is that these cans of peanuts are not salty enough---but, it is good for you! Trust us and forget about the taste. In order to find good peanuts, try various brands in stores and when you find one you like stick with it. Planter's now cost more than most other brands but the name Planter's no longer represents the best. Stores like Ollies or Big Lots carry different brands which cost much less than Planter's. Even the store brands found in big box stores like Walmart are not only cheaper but, in many cases better tasting than Planter's.

It is easy to confuse the letter wanting you to buy their book(s) with a regular Family Handyman subscription. In your case, if you haven't opened the package, just write "refused, return to sender" and drop in off in any post office bin. If you have opened it, then you have two choices: keep the book as you don't have to pay for something you didn't order or send it back to them and pay the return postage with a note advising them you don't want their books in the future. If you don't pay for the unwanted book, then you will get a few dunning letters from them and then they will most likely stop the dunning letters. Kroger #1717546
You are not dealing with rocket scientists when discussing baggers at Kroger or any other store that still has them. Your watching the price ring up is a good idea and something most people just don't do---to their detriment as once the Michigan legislature repealed the requirement to put a price sticker on products in stores, it appears the stores have found a new way of increasing their bottom line---their scanned prices make many, many mistakes and it behooves shoppers to watch as each item is scanned. Kroger's method of applying cents off or sale prices, etc. are rather confusing---they will show the price of an item as it is scanned, and will tell you the sale price will be shown at the end of the ringing up process. This makes you stand there and hold up the line while you verify all the cents-off deals, etc. have been taken. Sadly, most people seemingly haven't the good sense to watch items ring up.
