You can find instructions online (including some on Youtube and some much further down this thread) that tell you how to uninstall the new firmware and reinstall the old firmware. I did that a few years ago and haven't had any problems since. Just make sure to disenable automatic updates so you don't encounter the same problem again.
You need to find an older version of the Firmware and go back to that. You can find videos on youtube that tell you how to do it. I did that several years ago and haven't had a problem since. Circumventing Epson's efforts to force me to buy their ink cartridges was very satisfying. Never update your Firmware, no matter what Epson tells you.
We can use this site to whine about how awful Epson is, or we can use it to help each other defeat Epson's efforts to force us to use only their ink. I choose to do the latter, as have a few others. Don't believe Epson when they tell you you can't "downgrade" your firmware so you can use non-Epson ink. I did the downgrade in early April and have had no problems since. Just make sure to turn off automatic updates so the problem doesn't arise again. This youtube video will tell you how to replace the firmware that is causing your problem with older firmware: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6wdgJODghcYou can find the older firmware here: https://www.latestprinterdrivers.com/category/epson/Type the model of your printer in the "Search and enter" box to get the appropriate firmware for your printer.Good luck!

Epson made sure that we cannot downgrade the firmware, screw them
Epson wants you to think the firmware can't be uninstalled, but it can. I did it earlier this week . . . and circumventing Epson's efforts to make me buy their ink made me felt great! See my April 4 post on this thread for two very helpful links that will help you uninstall the new firmware and install older firmware that will allow you to use aftermarket ink cartridges. Good luck.
I had the same problem, but was able to fix it.Follow the instruction on this video to undo the firmware update:https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=237&v=C6wdgJODghcYou can find the old firmware you need on:https://www.latestprinterdrivers.com/epson-xp-430-driver-download/Make sure you turn off automatic updating so this doesn't happen again.
Here's a link to a youtube video that will tell you how to fix the problem:https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=237&v=C6wdgJODghcIt worked for me.Using a firmware update to stop people from using non-Epson ink cartridges seems to be contrary to the Supreme Court's ruling in Impression Products, Inc. v. Lexmark International, Inc. I guess Epson figures they'll make money off ink than they'll lose in a similar court case.

Thank you so much for posting this link! Followed the instructions on the video and my XP-330 works again with third-party ink. Very appreciative of this!
