Tell that to the employees of sears, bon ton, shopko, k mart, family video, pier 1, payless shoes, stein mart, office depot, lord & taylor, circuit city or the other slew of retailers who find them out of business due to poor customer service and sales. The company may be the one who actually prints the checks, but the customers who shop the retailers are the ones purchasing the merchandise at retail prices. The difference between the price the customer pays and what the store paid for the merchandise is where the funds for the payroll come from. If customers receive poor service the customer will take his business elsewhere. less sales at the register mean slower turnover of stock, less profit for the company, harder time making payroll, less hours available for staffing, and eventually as other retailers found out the hard way eventually you need to pull the plug on the retailer all together. Poor customer service speeds up the process significantly.
