Bad experience with Apple Store customer service

I'm currently having a problem with my 2007 iMac. It shuts down after a few minutes of having it on and some days it won't turn on at all. I went to the Apple store and explained exactly this and even mentioned that it's a 2007 iMac. The girl said for me to book an appointment with the genius bar so that they can have a look at it. I booked the appointment a few weeks later and brought it in. When I was finally able to get some help, I explained everything that was wrong with it. He told me a list of other places that I could take it to to have it fixed. He didn't even have a look at it or try turning it on or anything. It's as if he wasn't interested in helping me and wanted me out of there so that he can move on to the next customer. He asked if I wanted someone to help me with it and I said yes thinking that someone could have a look at it. Another employee comes by saying they were told that I needed help bringing it back to my car... Not what I wanted at all. I knew going into it that it's an old computer and there might not be much that can be done, but I thought they would at least have a look at it. Even the girl I spoke to initially told me to bring it in to have it looked at! I would have never made the appointment to come in if I knew they would just tell me to go somewhere else. It's disappointing after being an Apple customer for so many years.
