Instacart - Account Deactivated without notice and requests to reactivate ignored

I am 73 years old, single, live alone, and the only income I have to get by (barely) is my monthly Social Security income. Health problems last fall put me into a wheelchair and stuck at home.

So I started using Instacart to get groceries. Worked fine--I was satisfied.

Had a hip replaced in December. Got back home Feb 5 but have to use a wheelchair because I can't stand unsupported or walk. Before I went into the hospital, I gave away anything in the fridge that would spoil while I was away.

So I needed to get groceries ASAP.

When I tried to log on to Instacart to do my shopping, I got a message that my account had been deactivated. I found the phone number to contact Instacart and reported the problem. Was told they would send an email with instructions on how to reactivate my account. Didn't get an email.

I repeated calling 3 more times, Fed up with phone calls, I asked for an email address to try communicating that way. Sent an email and--surprise, surprise--got no response.

They are supposed to have experts to help seniors--I called that number next. During the phone call, the representative told me to hold on while he reactivated my account. After waiting a few minutes, he came back on the phone and assured me that I would be able to log on and get groceries again.

Feeling more hopeful, I hung up the phone and went to my computer to start shopping.

Tried to log on--surprise, surprise--there was that message again--account deactivated. So I looked up the addresses for the Instacart home office (physical and email), sent a complaint email, and then wrote a letter and put that into the mail. This was 2 weeks ago-haven't gotten a response from Instacart, and am still unable to get groceries.

Throughout this ordeal, a couple of my neighbors have been getting groceries for me when they go to the store.

Both are away on vacation, unfortunately, so I've been eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, soup, and cereal--almost out of bread, almost out of milk. Can't afford to order food and have it delivered via Door Dash or Grubhub.

Preferred solution: apologize, reactivate my account, give me a discount on my next order (assuming there is a next order).

User's recommendation: Steer clear of Instacart
