Aliexpress - Poor customer service

I ordered a jumper-dress via the AliExpress web site which upon receipt was not as described and also had some poor workmanship / damage to the garment. The dress was supposed to have [advertised as having] free 15-day returns. I filed a return complaint with Aliexpress and was given a 4 day window (including weekend) to return the item. I was also expected to pay for the return and then claim the cast of the return back. In my country (UK) this is unlawful. Goods received as either not as described or not of satisfactory quality can be returned at the expense of the merchant. The merchant is also responsible for the full cost of the return and arranging for the return. Not a prayer of this with AliExpress!! Also in UK law, if the merchant fails to arrange collection of the goods within 6 months then it is to be deemed to be a free gift. The major problem with all of this is that AliExpress do not seem to have a UK office against which legal action can be lodged. They appear to be able to do whatever they wish including impose unrealistic timescales for returns and unfairly place all responsibility for a return on the unsuspecting customer.I AliExpress trade as an online only company based in Hong Kong (China). This is always a site sign that if things go wrong then there could be trouble ahead. I would advise anybody thinking of purchasing anything from AliExpress that Caveat Emptor is particularly appropriate with this (prima facie) shark web trading company. I feel you should source your items from an alternative resource especially one with an operation in your country and clear contact details so that you can contact the office in your country for a resolution. This would also ensure that shark companies such as AliExpress need to comply with the law in the company where the order originated / was placed.
