American Home Shield - Refuse to fix my AC

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

My AC stopped working. A technician from American Home Shield (AHS) came and reported that the compressor is burned out because the Freon has leaked due to a missing port cap.

American home shield is denying my claim saying that it is not covered because the damage is considered as a "secondary damage".

It does not make sense to me, or anyone that I have talked to, why they are saying this is "secondary damage". Apparently the missing cap (which is inside the unit and might have been dropped by itself) is considered as the primary damage and the actual damage to the compressor is considered as the secondary damage. With their analogy ANY DAMAGE can be considered as the secondary damage. Clearly the compressor would have not burned out without any cause.

When the system fails, something should have caused the damage, and it should only be considered secondary damage if another unit or person has caused the problem.

In my case, it is all just one unit and no secondary person/unit have been involved.

I'm paying about $600 per year plus $100 per service to have a peace of mind when I really need the home warranty. If I had saved the money that I had wasted on AHS over the last few years, I could buy a brand-new AC unit and a couple of other appliances.

They stink - when they need to order a part - it takes a month - and they keep giving you the run around - and the part never comes - and all the help people are overseas - no US employees any longer
