HGTV - Lack of Diversity

I totally agree. I love watching HGTV and the DIY Network .

I find the shows very inspiring and they have actually helped me make positive design decisions as well as save money when seeking home improvements. While I enjoy most, if not all the hosts, I too am very concerned about the lack of diversity. I have seen several Black hosts and other hosts of color completely disappear over the years. Yard Crashers host Ahmad Ahmed, Cool Tools host Chris Grundy, Miles of Style host Kim Myles, Property Virgins host Egypt Sherrod and several Blacks hosts of Flip or Flop.

Additionally, Black home buyers are very rarely featured and when I do see them, its usually at some obscure time in the wee hours of the night or morning. Both networks are owned by Scribbs. I would really like to see them do a better job with diversity. As an African American woman who owns three homes and who knows all too well that homeownership among Black women has skyrocketed in recent years, we are big consumers of everything for inside, outside, and around the home.

To see us be completely ignored by the two networks is downright disrespectful and disappointing. I will stop watching the networks and will stop purchasing from advertisers like Wayfair where I literally spend thousands of dollars yearly.
