The Weather Channel - EastCoast BIAS

Why is it when the East coast or Northeast gets 12" to 18" of snow or they get 70 or 80 mph winds its like the end of the world and the storm gets some name put on it as the one right now. But when we get 70 to 100 mph winds or we get 12" to 24" of snow in the Northwest part of our country it is just a local or minor event "no big deal" no storm name .

In 1962 we had a Typhoon go up the Westcoast on Columbus Day, over 100 mph winds sustained for hours, it did heavy damage in Oregon Northern Cal. and Wash. It is only known as the Columbus Day Storm. Don't tell me they didn't name storms back then because I know better than that.

Two years ago we had 20" of snow in Eugene Or. oh well just a little snow event .East Coast BIAS.

Perhaps because it impacts one area of one state and thousands of people vs an entire region across multiple states and tens of millions of people.
