Last Thursday, June 25, 2020 I was exposed to belligerent and uncalled behavior from a guard and a bank manager named Tracey Issac at the Ave J branch in Brooklyn, New York. I was trying to make a deposit at the ATM machine when I realized that there was no pen there to write on. Since I did not have a pen on me, I motioned to the guard standing inside the bank that I needed a pen by writing in the air. He opened the glass doors and gave me one. I nodded and proceeded to fill out my deposit slip. A minute later the guard accompanied by Ms. Tracey Isaac barged through the glass doors and started to accuse me of behaving disrespectfully and discourteously. Ms. Isaac did not ask me to verify the guard's uncalled for accusations. I was so shocked I did not know how to react to their unfounded accusations. I am not a discourteous person nor an ungrateful one so that being accused of not being overly thankful to the guard for bringing me a pen that should have been there in the first place was incomprehensible to me. I keep going over my actions to see what I did wrong and can find nothing in my behavior that warranted such a belligerent overreaction. I cannot begin to tell you how much this experience shook me up. How can a bank officer be allowed to yell at a customer in good standing for not reacting in an overly solicitous manner to a guard who gave her a pen to fill out a deposit slip? Is this the behavior you expect from your employees? Can such a behavior by an assistant manager be at all justified? Yelling at a customer because the guard did not like the way she reacted when he gave her a pen- we are talking about a pen for G-d's sake- can never be the right way for an employee to behave. Ms. Isaac's unquestioning support of the guard and her resulting bullying of a customer was not only without merit but totally inappropriate for a professional. Of course, I have since withdrawn my account from this bank and deposited into another bank where the tellers and managers were extremely courteous. I have warned all those with whom I come come in contact with about being extremely cautious if they have dealings in the Apple bank at 1401 Ave J. In no way should I and no other customer be the object of such unjustified bullying.
