Verified ReviewerLyft Support Spent Nearly 4 Hours Answering the Wrong Question. Has Anyone Else Experienced This?
Ive been using Lyft for a long time, and I wanted to share an experience to see if anyone else has gone through something similar.
First, I want to be clear: this wasnt about trying to avoid tipping drivers. I tip when I receive good service.
Tipping is a personal choice, and I dont believe every ride automatically deserves one. Thats how gratuities are intended to worktheyre discretionary.
I also live on a set income and carefully budget my transportation expenses. I dont use cash; I pay for my rides with my debit card, and I regularly monitor my account. Because every dollar matters, I pay close attention to notifications involving my finances.
Recently, I received a notification thanking me for tipping on my last 20 rides.
That immediately caught my attention because I had never received that notification before. I wasnt accusing Lyft of charging me incorrectlyI simply wanted to understand what the notification meant and whether anything had changed with my account or tip settings.
Instead of answering that question, I spent nearly four hours being transferred between AI support, multiple customer service representatives, and finally a supervisor. The responses I received repeatedly explained how tipping works, told me tips are rider-initiated, and instructed me how to change tip settings. The problem was that none of those responses addressed the actual question I was asking.
Eventually, my case was escalated to a Lyft Safety Team supervisor, who reviewed my account and told me they couldnt even find the notification I was referring to and suggested it may have been spam.
The supervisor also apologized for the earlier customer support because it hadnt properly addressed my concerns. Another Lyft representative even told me:
If it was on me, I would give you a refund because I know that you do not deserve to pay for an experience like this.
At that point, my complaint wasnt really about money anymore. It became about the customer experience. If a notification appears to come from Lyft, customers should be able to receive a clear explanation of what it means.
Instead, I spent hours repeating myself, received inconsistent explanations, and ultimately was told no goodwill credit or compensation could be offered because of company policyeven after Lyft acknowledged the support I received fell short.
Im posting this because Im curious whether anyone else has experienced something similar.
* Have you ever received a Thanks for tipping on your last 20 rides notification?
* If so, did Lyft explain what triggered it?
* Have you ever had Lyft acknowledge poor customer service but still refuse to provide any meaningful resolution?
Companies dont have to be perfect, but they should be accountable when their systems create confusion and their support process makes that confusion worse. Im interested in hearing whether this was an isolated incident or whether other Lyft users have experienced the same thing.
- Conveience
- Poor customer service
Preferred solution: Full refund

Verified ReviewerNearly 10-Year Afterpay Customer Receiving Conflicting Explanations and No Resolution
I have been an Afterpay customer for nearly 10 years and have maintained a strong payment history. I have not intentionally missed scheduled payments, and my account has generally remained in good standing.
Unfortunately, my recent experience has been frustrating and confusing.
My purchases began being declined even though my account was current. What has been most concerning is that I have received multiple, conflicting explanations from Afterpay.
At one point, I was advised in writing that I was approximately able to have 15 active orders. However, I was later declined while I had only 11 active orders, with the message Pay off active orders to continue. This effectively required me to pay down orders before their scheduled due dates, despite not being late on any payments.
I also received an adverse action notice stating that a transaction was declined because of Invalid payment details provided.
After reviewing my account, I found that the same Visa card referenced in that notice was already saved on my account and was being used by Afterpay for Autopay on existing installment plans. I have asked Afterpay to explain how the same payment method could be accepted for scheduled payments but considered invalid for a new purchase.
I later received another adverse action notice for a different transaction stating the reason was Number of open orders exceeds open order limit. That notice also referenced information obtained from Experian. I have asked Afterpay to explain how these different reasons relate to one another and what role, if any, Experian played in the decision.
Another issue has been customer support.
I have repeatedly been asked to verify my identity. I have submitted the requested information numerous times, yet I continue receiving the same identity verification request instead of answers to my questions.
Rather than addressing the substance of my complaint, the process appears to restart with another request for the same information.
I am not asking Afterpay to approve every purchase. I am simply asking for a clear, consistent explanation of:
* My actual active order limit.
* Why different decline reasons have been provided.
* Why I am being asked to pay orders before their due dates despite remaining current.
* Whether there are restrictions on my account that have not been explained.
I hope my experience encourages Afterpay to improve transparency and provide more meaningful support when long-standing customers have legitimate questions about their accounts.
- Tool for customer with less perfect credit
- Poor communication
Preferred solution: I am seeking a fair and transparent resolution.
User's recommendation: My purpose in sharing this experience is to encourage other customers to document everything, ask for clear written explanations, and understand their rights as consumers. Even if your account has a strong payment history, don’t assume that means you’ll never encounter issues. If something doesn’t make sense, ask questions and keep records of every response.

Verified ReviewerWalmart - Selling items that are out of stock
After escalating my concerns, I communicated with Walmart representatives *** and *** regarding issues with substitutions and authorization holds.***’s virtual assistant repeatedly stated that customers should be able to decline substitutions, that out-of-stock items should simply be removed from an order, and that there is no policy requiring substitutions to complete a purchase. However, my actual experience appeared inconsistent with that guidance.I also obtained documentation showing my order total was $533.32 while Walmart planned a temporary authorization hold of $573.90.
Walmart explains that holds may account for weighted items, inventory changes, and potential substitutions. While I appreciate the assistance provided by *** and ***, I still have not received a clear explanation as to why my checkout experience differed from Walmart’s stated policy. My concern remains transparency, consistency, and ensuring customers receive accurate information regarding substitutions and authorization holds.
Hello,I would also like to provide an update regarding my concerns. After raising these issues with Walmart and receiving a $5 coupon, I have now encountered another problem. Despite attempting throughout the day, I have been unable to successfully place my order. This has added to my frustration because my original concern involved authorization holds, inventory availability, and the difficulty I experienced managing substitution preferences.
Now, after receiving a goodwill coupon, I am unable to complete the very purchase it was intended to help resolve. At this point, I am seeking a clear explanation regarding the authorization hold process, inventory verification practices, and the current issue preventing me from placing an order. I would also appreciate confirmation as to whether there are any restrictions, system errors, or account-related issues affecting my ability to complete a purchase. As previously stated, I have shared my concerns on Pissed Consumer and will continue to update my post as Walmart provides additional information and resolves these issues.
My goal is transparency and a clear understanding of Walmart’s policies and practices so that other consumers can make informed decisions.Thank you for your attention to these matters. I will continue to update my Pissed Consumer complaint as Walmart responds and provides additional information regarding these concerns.Sincerely,***
I recently placed a grocery order with an estimated total of $560.74. However, Walmart placed a temporary authorization hold of $599.89, approximately $39 higher than the estimated order total.
When I contacted customer service, I was told that the additional authorization amount was related to inventory availability and potential substitutions.
The problem is that I specifically wanted to disable substitutions. The Walmart app would not allow me to make that selection during checkout. I had to completely log out of the app and sign back in before I was finally able to access and enable the No Substitutions option.
After I successfully disabled substitutions, the order clearly stated that no substitutions would be provided. Despite this, customer service still cited substitutions as the reason for the higher authorization hold.
When I pointed out that substitutions were disabled, I did not receive a clear explanation for why an additional $39 was being authorized.
If an item is unavailable, Walmart should simply indicate that the item is out of stock or unavailable at checkout. Customers should not have to navigate app issues just to disable substitutions, nor should they be given explanations that rely on substitutions after they have specifically opted out of them.
My concern is not merely the temporary authorization hold.
It is the lack of transparency surrounding how the hold amount is calculated, the difficulty in disabling substitutions through the app, and the inability of customer service to provide a direct answer to a straightforward question.
Consumers deserve clear information regarding inventory availability, authorization holds, and how those amounts are determined. I have requested escalation and am still seeking a specific written explanation regarding the calculation of the authorization amount for my order.
- Convenience
- Not accurate online information
Preferred solution: I am seeking transparency regarding Walmart’s authorization hold practices and inventory management. Customers should not have funds held for unavailable items, and inventory availability and hold calculations should be clearly disclosed before checkout.
User's recommendation: Check your total before checking out. Make sure you understand what your being charged

Verified Reviewer |Walmart - Balance total increasing after gift card is added
I have not received my money back from canceled items from an online order. The money should not have been taken out until the order is complete
In the U.S., tipping is technically optional, but it’s heavily expected—especially in restaurants where servers rely on tips for a big chunk of their income. That said, if the service is truly bad, you’re not obligated to leave a full tip.
Here’s a common approach: Truly awful service: You can leave little or no tip, but it sends a strong message. If you’re going to leave a very low or no tip, it’s often more impactful (and fair) to speak with a manager so they know it’s about the service—not just that you’re cheap.
The drivers do not communicate with you and get the wrong product or flat out lie about what’s available out of laziness I assume therefore you will be tipped appropriately. Walmart should be ashamed of not paying a fair wage so the contractor won’t be reliant on the tips from broke customers just trying to get by
Walmart just took money out of my account without. Walmart said I would have to contact my bank to get it back.
Order number: 200012*-***43915
Gift card: $200 Afterpay issued Walmart gift card
Expected total: $191.00
Actual total after applying gift card: $206
I'm a single mother trying to prepare Easter dinner, so I loaded $200 onto an Afterpay gift card specifically for groceries and household items. When I checked out at Walmart.com, my subtotal was $191.00, so I applied the card expecting a $0 balance.
Instead, the final balance jumped up to $206 along with taking almost $7 off my debit (an extra $20-25!).
That makes no sense—how does applying store credit make me owe more? I had to manually remove items until the gift card fit the order.
I called Walmart customer service; the rep told me to wait until the order arrives and call back for a $25 refund. But even that interaction was confusing: she asked only for my mailing address (never asked for my email or phone number as previous reps did), then abruptly returned and said that information wasn't needed. I had to mention I was recording the call before she would help.
What to watch out for: 1.
Check your totals both before and after you apply any gift cards. 2. Ask for a written confirmation (email or chat transcript) of any promised refund. 3.
Keep your order number and gift card ID handy when you call.
Desired resolution: A clear explanation for why the gift card increased my balance.
Immediate refund of the $25 overcharge, without having to wait for order arrival and another phone call. Assurance that future customers won't face the same glitch.
- Hidden fees
Preferred solution: Full refund
User's recommendation: Please check your totals before checking out

Verified ReviewerCapital One - Shady practices
I am writing to formally express my concerns regarding the inconsistent and misleading information I have received from multiple Capital One customer service representatives. Over the past two weeks, I have contacted your customer service department multiple times regarding unrestricted access to my account, and each time I called, I received conflicting information that not only caused confusion but also delayed my ability to make informed decisions about my account.
To ensure accuracy, I recorded these conversations for my personal records. These recordings clearly demonstrate the discrepancies in the information provided by your representatives. This inconsistency is unacceptable, and I find it concerning that I am unable to rely on your staff to provide accurate and consistent guidance. I expect transparency, professionalism, and consistency from a financial institution of Capital One's standing.
I request that this matter be investigated thoroughly. I also ask that appropriate action be taken to ensure that your representatives are properly trained and held accountable for the information. In response to a recent interaction with a representative who requested my bank account number after I submitted a bank statement to verify my address, while I understand the need for proper documentation, I am concerned about the security implications of providing my full bank account number, especially when a bank statement already serves as a verified document issued by my financial institution. For security reasons, I am uncomfortable sharing my full account number and would appreciate clarification on why this information is necessary when the bank statement should already suffice for address verification purposes.
Please let me know if there is an alternative way to verify my address or if additional documentation (such as a utility bill or government-issued correspondence) would be acceptable. I am writing to raise a serious concern about this interaction with one of your representatives. I was asked to provide my full bank account number after uploading a bank statement for proof of address. When I expressed my concern about sharing this sensitive information, I requested that the account be closed instead if such details were required.
However, the representative refused to proceed with closing the account, citing that she could not assist me because I informed her I was recording the call. I find this response highly inappropriate and concerning. I want to make it clear that I take the handling of my personal and financial information very seriously. If Capital One insists on requiring my full bank account number despite already receiving a legitimate bank-issued document, and if your representatives continue to obstruct reasonable requests, I will be forced to consider taking legal action to protect my rights and ensure accountability.
Please escalate this matter immediately and provide a resolution.
I expect a prompt response explaining how Capital One intends to address this issue. I have emailed these addresses with no response

"I wasn't accusing Lyft of incorrectly charging me...". Then why do you need a full refund and for what?
And that notification that started all of this was a scam. It was not from Lyft, but an impostor.
