CarShield - Just another shady insurance company

Don't bought the powertrain plus coverage for my Toyota Sienna. It only had about 146k miles and my previous Sienna went 340k before blowing the engine. I got coverage because I just had two kids get out of school, we are massively in debt and I still had another couple of years of payments for this thing. Couldn't handle a big repair expense. 9 months after I got the CarShield insurance, the motor started making a noise. I took it in, and the mechanic said the engine was going and needed to be replaced. He started a claim with CarShield. An adjuster called me and said that he wanted to see my service records. I told him that I had always done the required PM on my cars but my long time mechanic shop had filed for bankruptcy and went under. The owner (father, daughter, 40 year business) filed bankruptcy, got rid of all the records, packed up and moved out of state. All the records are lost, not my fault. My contract says that service records are required to be kept because CarShield may, at their discretion, require them. Well, I knew that and I knew also that I could call my mechanic to get them if I ever needed them. But now they are gone. There are lots of indicators that my vehicle was properly maintained. The mechanic checked the oil when I took it and said it was on the stick and decent color. There are no oil leaks or seeping, and no oil on my driveway. The mechanic said that it sounded like the chain had just gotten loose over normal wear and tear on 150k miles. He said he had seen it before even on vehicles that were properly maintained. My mileage right now is just less than 5000 miles, so since I bought the contract, a mandatory oil change wasn't even required. And I recall having t done anyway when I had the car in for tires and brakes in October. But, the insurance company won't listen and won't take all the facts and do what is right. They are just standing on the technicality that I can't produce the service records and is denying the claim. I wasted $900 to get coverage for a potential engine failure, properly maintained my vehicle, and could have produced the records if my mechanic hadn't gone out of business. This was not my fault, and I got no understanding at all. They happily took the technicality to let them off the hook, despite all the constant commercials indicating they are great to work with. This is not honorable and I wouldn't recommend anyone sign up with a company that will take any fine print way to get out of helping a customer. Like many others have said about this company, you would be better off putting the monthly payments into a rainy day mechanical repair fund.

User's recommendation: Don't trust them. They will find a way out of their obligations.

You don’t keep copies of your repairs???...Really????.....Have a copy of your mortgage and car payments?.....still car shield is a joke!
