I've always been one to defend Spirit Airlines -- I freely drank the Spirit Kool-Aid thinking that nothing bad would ever happen to me. Then it happened... I did all the tricks -- waited three weeks before I wanted to travel, purchased my tickets at the airport from...

So...here is some followup. I filed two complaints - one with the Department of Transportation (DOT) and one with the South Florida Better Business Bureau (the location closest to Spirit's HQ).

Amazingly, I got responses from both (likely because they are required to respond to DOT complaints). In both cases, Spirit refused to take any responsibility for the cancellation - blaming it on Air Traffic Decisions (ATC) out of Chicago, where the flight originated. When I asked the DOT representative about this, he explained that as a result of the Airline Deregulation Act of 1978, the FAA is not allowed to cancel flights -- The airlines themselves are responsible for canceling flights. So go figure -- nobody wants to take responsibility for the cancellation.

As a result of the BBB complaint, Spirit offered me two $150 future flight coupons. I might use them, but this time I will not get excited about my trip until I have reached my destination.

Having been through the ringer in this process, I still agree with Spirit's pricing structure -- paying for what you actually use and charging for the extra stuff -- and letting me decide what I want to pay for and what I don't. While I can never get my vacation back, I am pleased with what Spirit has offered and will resolve the issue here.

Etsy - Ordered an item, waited 8 weeks, still no item nor refund.

Ordered an item for my daughter's birthday that she really wanted. Seller claimed that it takes 3-4 weeks to manufacture the product, then it would be shipped. So at the 4 week mark, I messaged the seller -- who claimed that she was really busy and that the item would be shipped the following Monday. By Friday of the following week, I had no product, and no communication. I messaged her again, this time elevating my frustration. Her response was "It was mailed Monday, Calm Down." Two weeks later, still no product. A third message to the seller asking for an update and I filed a case with Etsy -- "Oh, I got busy and it is ready to mail, do you still want the product or a refund." Are you kidding me???? I asked for a refund. Now, nearly a week later, still nothing -- no refund, no response, etc. Etsy has done little to help -- preferring to "let buyer and seller work it out." Obviously this model has not worked. Never again, never again. This is NOT EBay where there seems to be a little more muscle in the trust department. Oh -- and by the way, PayPal is of ABSOLUTELY no help either. Filed a lengthy complaint with them and got an immediate form response back that there was nothing they could do. Being that Etsy and EBay are competitors and PayPal is an EBay company, is it any wonder that PayPal will do nothing to help scammed Etsy customers??
