Stevens Creek Subaru - Engine problem

took my 2013 xtrek in to get engine recall work done on 7/1/2019. Steven's creek subaru was backed up so i got a loaner and my car was left there. after 1 month, my service advisor (Deanna) emailed me a list of items she recommended to have service total $4296. one of the service on the list was a timing cover gasket which was $1765. another one was the axel, which i asked to fix. after i received my car back in August, the car did not seem to have any adverse driving condition. around October, i got a check engine light on with stability control and cruise control light. checking online, some people stated that it may be the gas cap. i resetted the gas cap and the lights went away. after a month, it the same lights came back on. i went to a subaru dealer and bought a new gas cap and it resolved the issue for about a month and then the lights come on again but this time, there was knocking issue coming near the driver side. that's when i took to Steven's creek service. An adviser came and i told him the issue and after hearing the knocking, he told me that he is almost certain that a new engine block is needed ranging from $7-$7.5k. i asked if it had anything to do with the recall work and he said it was highly unlikely. i also asked if the timing was not set correctly and he said it has nothing to do with timing since they do not need to open up the timing cover. He then told me that it will cost $1500 to do a tear down and i would have to pay for it, unlikely it was issue by the recall work, which he is almost certain that its not by just hearing the sound. at this point, i wasnt willing to pay $1500 to find out that i need to pay another $7k for the engine work. i will take to another subaru service for a second opinion.
