Simple Solutions - Provided Unsatisfactory Service
We just had a patio cover built onto our home by Tom with Simple Solutions in Universal City, Texas and for the price we paid ($9000 to be exact) we expected the Service, the work, and the Results to be top of the line. However, we were wrong. What we did get is a very good Salesman and who can convince customers to hire him to do your remodeling or additions with his suitcase of pictures, permits, licenses (can only find his name registered under Trendsetter on San Antonio contractors) and Insurance Company information that he displays proudly in front of you. I warn you, do not fall for his convincing methods and if you decide to go against this warning, then you deserve to get the same treatment, service, and results. I do not recommend it; but if you do hire simple solutions protect yourself somehow, my recommendation would to: "¢Have everything you discuss put in writing on the contract "¢Have him give you a lien release and a scope of work prior to signing a contract or starting the project "¢Have some sort of clause added about his visiting the site to check on the workers because he is a ghost "¢Do not pay everything at once, we started with a $1000 down and then paid in increments, which was the only way to get the incorrect construction corrected. When work was not done right, he would not answer the phone, nor would his son (second in command). You have to figure it out yourself. I can provide you proof with pictures, copies of unanswered text messages, unanswered phone calls, gutters that are still laying on the ground in our back yard, (because he wanted an additional $300 to rehang the original gutters they removed. Part of the patio project initial deal and it was in writing was to replace all the masonite trim on the back of our house and replace it with hardi board trim; he could not cut an arch out of hardi-board and decided he would just not replace that one piece of trim which was dry rotted from the weather. So he left it off, I had to beg and get angry over this and his son had one of the contractors come out and replace it with a piece of plywood; oh yeah, it was left unpainted also. Tom told us they could match the paint exactly and well you guessed it, the paint does not match; it is a light peach color instead of the tan color. To top everything off, I received a bill from the electrician for $162, because Tom from Simple Solutions did want to pay it. So to avoid any legal or credit issues, we paid the bill. How's that for $9000 worth of customer service.
