Ace Hardware - Bad Bird Feeder

Just received a new hopper style feeder and had a messy problem real fast. T he top does not remove to fill the feeder. There's a small opening provided which is inadequate to use with more than one cup of seeds at a time. It now takes forever to fill the thing and results in spilled seeds all over the floor. A removable top would have been the sensible way to do things. This feeder is poorly designed and almost useless for us. The top opening is built into the cover, slides to open, and my next worry of course is how wet will the seeds get in the rain? I'd take it back somewhere but we don't have an Ace store in Newport, TN. So now, after paying for shipping both ways, I will lose money by returning it for a refund. This online purchase of mine was a real money drain but in line, I guess, with the new TV advertising mode of doing business. And Ace had to jump on the bandwagon. One final concern is Ace Hardware ever buying this item in the first place. Over the years the company never did me wrong, so I wonder why or how the buyers allowed such a poorly engineered product to become part of their company? Oh well, another Good Will donation.

Daxs Handyman - Dax's Handyman Service, A $550 Rip-Off!

My complaint against Thomas Martin, owner/operator Dax's Handyman service, Newport, TN: On August 10, 2015 Dax came to my house to assess rain water leakage from two areas: the top of a 1st floor living room double window and the bottom of a 2nd floor French door leading to a small balcony. Dax surveyed the two areas, inside and out, and he set up a ladder outside the living room window and began pulling vinyl siding off the house. At the same time his assistant, a man called "Squeek," started to remove vinyl siding from the area around the 2nd floor French door. He was later joined by Dax who helped pull decking boards off the balcony and remove even more vinyl. Finally Dax cut a section of simulated wood flooring out of the recreation room floor just inside the French doors. The two men stopped work after about 3 hours and Dax made a list of materials needed to seal off the two leakages. I then gave Dax the $150.00 cash that he requested. I did not see Dax again until 4 days later. On August 14 Dax returned to tell me that the final list of materials amounted to $260.00 which he then needed before he could complete the job. He also stated that the French doors may have to be replaced, at an additional cost, if his outside caulking and other repairs did not work as planned. I agreed to this and told him that it had to be absolutely necessary (the full cost of the doors was left open until the time came that they might have to be replaced). I did not see Dax again until 3 days later. On August 17 Dax showed up around noon with a plea for an additional $140.00 to buy a large tarp to enclose the French door area since rain had been forecasted for later in the day. At that time I gave him the cash whereupon he told me that he'd drive to Gatlinburg to get the tarp since there it would be much cheaper. He never returned that day to protect anything, so that evening my wife and I stood out on a broken balcony, in the rain, trying to protect the area around the French doors that had no longer had any vinyl to keep out water. August 17th was the last time I saw or heard from Dax. I have paid him a total of $550.00, but as of today no repair work whatsoever has been done to either area of the house. The damage he did to the vinyl siding and the wood framed areas surrounding the two leaks remains untouched. I want a full refund since absolutely no repair work was done! Pictures of this damage are available. HERTZ car rentals overcharge

Update by user Apr 15, 2015

Just back home and got a message from Hotwire giving me a $50 credit to be used within one year. Not the whole amount but a reasonable accommodation for the grief I got at the Tampa Hertz counter. Thank you Hotwire.

Original review posted by user Apr 08, 2015
Hertz confirmation code: G4943****F4 Hotwire Itinerary: 397802**** We picked up the car in Tampa and had to pay $110 extra to add my wife as a driver. The Hertz clerk laughingly told us that "This happens all the time." Geez, just what I wanted to hear! Earlier, when I called Hertz about adding her, I was told "No problem, no charge because you're married." What's going on? I also fault Hotwire for not allowing both parties to sign on as drivers when the reservation was originally made. Since Hotwire obviously knows about this scam, why do they continue to do business with Hertz? Two big, hungry companies in cahoots is what I see.

Wayfair - TV Commercials: Are those people on drugs?

Watching Wayfair TV ads lately I see nothing but men, women, and kids jumping around almost uncontrollably and making no sense at all. My first question to my wife was "Are they high on Mesc?" Regardless of the product or brand being pitched (and I've never been in a Wayfair store or bought anything from them before), their ad seems to target the druggie crowd more than anyone else. If I am incorrect, where's the perception policing by their advertising dep't? Someone should have quashed these ads from day 1: unless, of course, I'm right, and their target audience is whom I suspect.

I've never unterstood the ads either. The people jump and sqirm about like deranged lunatics, coupled with an extremely irritating music track, horribly sung.

I turn off the TV sound as soon as I hear it. The ad is an obstacle to me ever wanting to product from this company.

Resolved: Progressive Insurance - Inadequate Claims Payments: CBS News Report

The CBS TV report on car insurance companies requiring their collaborative auto body shops to do less than minimal required repair work made one thing abundantly clear: The hundreds of millions of $$$ they spend on those ridiculous TV commercials should have been put towards honest and fair claims resolutions. I just spoke to a local auto repair shop not affiliated with Progressive who told a similar story. After an accident repair report is faxed to the insurance company by the repair shop, a maximum repair payment amount is given. If the shop complains and an adjuster actually has to go see the damaged car in person, that repair amount may or may not be revised. Now, armed with this knowledge, I'll do lots and lots of pre-planning before my next renewal date comes around.

Papa Johns Pizza - Papa Johns Skimpy Toppings!

Update by user Mar 11, 2012

The replacement pizza I got with the free coupon they issued was very good. I picked it up instead of risking a delivery, and we were pleased with the amount of toppings and overall quality. We will buy from them again.

Original review posted by user Feb 09, 2012
Papa Johns, Newport, TN. What a rip off! I ordered double sausage pizza and got less meat than the other pizzerias in town use on a single topping order. Never again, especially when Milano's in town bakes better pies than any of the others. In all fairness, the area manager did give me a coupon for a free pizza, but that doesn't prevent the local boss from skimping whenever possible. After all, most people who get gypped simply won't complain up the chain of command. And if they do tell the local manager, so what? She will simply continue with bad business as usual.
