Hooked on Phonics - Unauthorised Autorenewal

I placed the order online for a 1 year subscription to the Hooked on Phonics 'Learn to Read' App on 6/22/18 for $29.99. During the subscription period, my experience of using this product was not good because of the following reasons: 1. I could not install this app in any of the android devices I owned. 'Hooked on phonics' app is not available in google play store for India location. 2. I used this app in my iPad (which I have now sold) for a very short period. But the content was not very relevant. My child tried the first few levels and then he gave up. 3. Also per instructions from a doctor, we have restricted our child from usage of mobile devices. That is the reason, I sold my iPad too. Because of the above reasons, I had minimal use of the app during the subscription period. So I made up my mind not to renew the subscription of the 'Learn to read' app for the next year. On 6/22/19, I noticed a credit card transaction for hooked on phonics for $39.99. I did not receive any prior notification of the impending renewal. I contacted hooked on phonics via their email id which is cs@***.com. I explained to them the issues I faced with the app and why I did not intend to renew. I requested them to refund. But Hooked on phonics reverted with explanation and history of what happened. But they were not willing to refund the amount. I am having to pay the price of a bad purchase decision not once, but twice - the second time with a bigger charge.
