Arizona Painting - Poor workmanship and quality
Last month I hired Arizona painting company based on their #1 status, along with a Rosie on the House partner and KTAR endorsement. I explained to the salesman Keith Bryant that I expected a thorough prep job before the painting began, and to cover my new solar panels from overspray. Day 1 (5/20) the painter Guillermo and his son power washed the house. Day 2, Guillermo and his son began to prep, and when I noticed some of the loose wood or paint wasn't removed, I asked him to go back and do a better job prepping those areas under the eaves. He said that's the way the wood looks and was unwilling to do any more prep work. He left shortly after noon. Being a handyman, I grabbed my ladder and putty knife and started to chip off loose wood and paint. I also noticed a lot a cracks and gaps under the eaves so I used some the patch compound that Guillermo was using to do the north end of the house. Day 3, they repaired stucco damage, applied "Drylock to the foundation and then sprayed Seal Krete on the house. Day 4, the painting began. The previous colors were off white on the body of the house and "smoked Trout" (medium brown) on the trim, fascia and eaves. As they were painting the eaves, I noticed a lot of wood wasn't completely covered, so I asked him to paint over it again. He seemed annoyed but did it. After I pointed out more spots under the eaves that weren't covered, he said he didn't have any more paint and couldn't get any more. I told him I would call the Gilbert the project manager to give Guillermo approval to buy more. I had to keep asking him to cover up the darker color under the eaves and got the same response, "I can't get any more paint”. The project manager only showed up once on Wednesday for a couple hours and left. Day 5, they finished up the painting, but when I got home at looked at it the next day, there was overspray on my travertine tile, overspray and adhesive tape residue on my solar panels, pots, hose bib and BBQ grill. There was also a missing tile square on the patio table. Gilbert came back Saturday with another painter to repaint under the eaves and clean up some of the over spray area. I contacted my solar company and they dispatched an employee who specializes in cleaning solar panels. He spent 11 hours over 3 days to carefully clean off the tape adhesive and cleaned all 48 solar panels from thee overspray. I gave Gilbert that invoice for an amount of $1,130. Under the tall front porch and patio cover, I still can see where the white paint didn’t complexly cover the previous darker paint. On June 3rd, I had total hip surgery so I decided I'm done hassling with Gilbert over what he thinks is acceptable versus what I would consider a professional paint job. I’m disappointed that I hired Arizona painting company, which turned out to be amateur incompetent painters. The project manager, Gilbert wasn’t much help showing up only once during the week for a few hours to oversee the job. He’s coming back tomorrow, 6/20 to clean up more overspray. I would only give Arizona Painting Company 1 star out of 10, and will never have them paint any of my properties again. It was a nightmare.
