ATT - AT&T charges account after contract expired and service cancelled

We were customers of AT&T Wireless (formerly Cingular) since 2005. In July 2012, we moved from Bend, Oregon to Portland, Oregon. We had never experienced any problems with our service until moving. Upon arriving in Portland, our calls would constantly drop and after moving into our new house, we discovered that our service did not even work in our own home. This was quite an inconvenience for us, as my husband works from home and we do not have a landline. It was also surprising that the level of service dropped considerably, since moving to a much larger metropolitan area. We contacted AT&T customer service several times regarding the problems with our service and we continued to pay our bill each month for the service that we weren't even really receiving. We were left with no other choice, but to switch our service to Verizon when our contract expired on December 17, 2012. On December 21, 2012, our AT&T service was cancelled. We were charged for the remaining time of the monthly service charge. We have refused to pay the final bill until AT&T corrects the issue of charging past our cancellation date. AT&T has sent our bill to a collection agency, Diversified Consultants, and we are still refusing to pay until they take the time to correct our account. We refuse to pay for service that we didn't receive. We were loyal customers for over 7 years.
