Hearst Communications - Unsolicited subscription and credit card charge

I had a CC alert this morning re a $30 "Hearst subscription" charge pending. I had no idea what Hearst even represents, and it's a magazine service. Since I received an unsolicited "Good Housekeeping" magazine last week, addressed to me, I assumed that was the reason for the charge.

I've spent OVER 3 HOURS trying to deal with this, and I still haven't had a conversation with anyone! I was sent to a Virtual Assistant, who redirected me to a site that was some kind of "technical support" group, although I didn't know it then. In order get access the, then, I had to put in CC info. That's when I got a Customer Service number, and it was this 6YA company. The guy there was clueless about Hearst. He did give me a phone number, but when I called it, I got a weird robot voice stating they were only "processing" calls from CA.

I went back online, where there are MULTIPLE numbers for customer service. Tried another one that at least answered 'Hearst,' but my only option was to leave a message. Still haven't heard back, 45 minutes later.

I don't want to cancel my credit card, due to the hassle involved, but I can't dispute the charge until it moves from 'pending' to posted. I feel like I've been scammed big-time. Even though they apparently represent a few decent mags, I will NEVER order from them. (I didn't order from them this time!!) OH, and I got a .25 charge for a trial subscription to 6YA ($199/yr), so I had to call and cancel that. Hopefully my CC isn't floating out in the ether world now.

User's recommendation: If you have ANY magazines subscriptions, be on the lookout for unsolicited ones that show up, and get credit card alerts. Because the amount is low, I'm sure the assumption is that people won't pay much attention to it. But it would be a recurring charge. Stay far, far away from Hearst subscription service.
