Jersey Mikes Subs - Experience COS

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I worked for jersey mikes for two weeks between may 9th & may 20th. The location was in Colorado Springs on interquest parkway.

To start, my interview was conducted by two teenage girls who have no managerial positions in the store & were very unprofessional. I accepted the job because they said they needed morning shift & prior to this interview I talked to Nate who is the franchise owner who said they were looking for an employee to move up to assistant manager or general manager. I have worked in a sub shop called Lenny's Grill & Subs as a manager for 3 years. Both companies are very similar in every way so I accepted the job in hopes to move up quickly with my experience & have the morning shifts that I needed for my schedule as I have a sick mother who I take care of at night.

I was started off below minimum wage, which I'm assuming is the reason why they only have highschoolers working for them. During my short days with the store, I have witnessed awful customer service a number of times on drive thru & front line. The general manager would not allow me to be trained on anything other than register & sprinkling. One of the non manager workers taught me grill for a short period because she was confused on why the general manager would not allow me to do anything else.

On 5/16 a employee came in wasted out of her mind & was still working slicer & making sandwiches. When I asked why she wasn't sent home, they said they did send her home but she was there for the entirety of my shift and is still currently employed. The general manager clearly has favorites at this store & possibly at the other two she manages. Employees were also allowed to smoke vapes in store.

I was told on my first day that breaks are not mandatory & usually aren't given out. Whenever there is downtime, that's our breaks. Which is illegal. Also means during no rush periods, employees would go sit at tables & do absolutely nothing while the store is the worst kept store I've ever seen.

Deep cleaning does not happen here. When I asked for a break on my last shift here, the general manager Sydney proceeded to give me attitude & roll her eyes when asked if I could go grab something to eat because I was nauseous. I had gotten there at 9am and it was 2pm at this point with no breaks whatsoever. The general manager also participated heavily in gossip with the teenage employees which only escalated things, she picked favorites & never spoke a word to me unless telling me to do something.

I am 24 years old, and with my experience I think she was purposefully not allowing me to be trained & moved forward because then she would no longer manage this location.

She gave me mostly short shifts & never had me come in to open which is again what I signed up for. I'm just truly appalled by the whole experience & something needs to be done immediately or this location is going to continue to spiral & make your company look terrible.
