Shady business practices

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

This company regularly engages in shady business practices and our situation was no different than the hundreds of negative reviews you will find online. We moved out only 7 months after signing our lease and spent hours cleaning the apartment when we first moved it.

It was filthy, things were missing like the shower head and smoke alarms, and we found metal nails everywhere which present a huge safety hazard. We spent a lot of time and effort to clean and get things repaired during our time living there. Before moving out the ONLY damage was a section of the utility room floor which we promptly notified the staff of before move out. We had the entire apartment professionally cleaned and carpet shampooed the day we moved out.

We were also told by staff this was one of the best apartments at move out they had seen and we shouldnt expect any additional money taken from our security deposit. Over a month later, almost $1000 had been deducted from our deposit- only $100 of which was used for the floor damage. They claimed we owed them $800 for paint/wall repair and $200 for cleaning. The walkthrough video THEY provided showed very small wall marks, discoloration, and furniture scuffs and the other half of the things they mentioned you couldnt even see on video.

The lady walking through would say an entire wall had to be repainted even though only a 1cm scratch was visible. We asked for proof of all the wall painting that was done and the cleaning since the apartment was in perfect condition at move out.

They did not respond and didnt provide any evidence besides the video where only normal wear and tear is visible. They clearly think they can scam anyone who lives there and makes a huge profit out of wrongly withholding security deposits without evidence of damages.

rented an apartment with a $500 deposit and when lease was up and moved, really cleaned it good, but Palermo realtors tried to tell me there was damage and painting to be done at the cost of $250 more. I was young and new to the 'renting world' and didn't take pictures of when I left nor was asked to go over the apartment with any rep. There were people moving in right away, so when were the so called damages and painting done?

I am being charged $920 to move out early. They want everything painted and cleaned.

The 2nd floor shower leaks into the basement and has for the year and half i have been there. I have sent pictures and turned in 4 maintenance requests. Nothing happened.

The front windows dont open.

One bdrm window doesnt open.

There are ants, spiders, flys, weird centipede things.

The flooring should not be considered carpet.

There is *** in side of the house.

Back porch falling down.

They are a joke if they think im cleaning one thing. They can keep my security deposit. They will have to take me to court for the other money they will want.

Never will i rent from them ever again.

BEWARE

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

BEWARE. SECURITY DEPOSIT THIEVES.

I have rented many times in my life and I have always received my entire security deposit. They charged me $320 to repaint the apartment due to the most miniscule and petty "scuffs" that were not visible without a magnifying glass. I was appalled as I have no children or pets and basically only slept there. There was no disruption to the paint (not a scratch) nor the underlying drywall.

I protested in writing that if anything this would be characterized as normal wear and tear but refused to refund me.

Secondly, it was very difficult to get in and out of the parking lot during 2017-**** winter. They only plowed twice.

I obviously do not recommend Palermo reality due to their shady business practices of weaseling/nickel and diming tenants out of their security deposit.

Management is incredibly poor. Snow removal was always delayed and required inquiry.

Palermo kept a significant portion of my security deposit when no damage was present beyond normal wear and tear. They were unable to produce still images of the disputes. Rather, they sent me a link to a youtube video that was a blur and included minor damages initially reported on move in that were never corrected. I believe because they knew I had moved from away from Erie they could keep this money.

Unfortunately for me, small claims court would be more costly after travel and filing fees. I spoke with several other prior tenants and this is a very common problem.

My advice is to avoid dealing with this company at all costs. If you are already a tenant, be sure to have a third party witness on move out and be prepared to dispute additional charges.

Horrible to deal with

I took a 3 month lease (beware the price on the internet is not what was charged it was more) and moved in with my 3 teenage boys when I moved out I cleaned EVERYTHING and then I get a bill in the mail that on top of my security deposit that I am having to pay an additional 975.00 for standard cleaning and painting and carpet cleaning! They said my kids left handprints on the wall?

My kids are teenagers they do not hold onto the walls when walking. I made sure the toilets were scrubbed, wiped the floor as I was walking out and swept the garage which was hard considering it was winter and the mud was bad.

Price Gouging - Never Rent from Palermo

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

We were warned about Palermo’s reputation after we had already moved in. We were told that your group was unhelpful, overcharged for things and had a poor reputation in the community. My husband is a doctor and was working temporarily at a local hospital so we needed a short term rental and did not have lots of time to get settled.

Here are just a few of the problems that we had during the year we lived there:

-the kitchen was infested with ants and we were told it was not Palermo’s problem

-the toilet on the lower level never flushed properly and as a result was not usable. Palermo never fixed it even after multiple complaints

-snow removal was sporadic and late

-windows did not operate properly and screens fell out

-the kitchen sink leaked both at the faucet handle and below the sink

-the cheap stove/oven was constantly hot to the touch and a potential fire hazard

-finally, they refused to pro rate rent for February (as most apartments do) so they had an extra ½ month’s rent in addition to the security deposit.

We were charged over $800 of our security deposit for them to "touch up" paint several walls, fill some small nail holes from pictures and then to clean up after the painters left! These should have been normal wear and tear refresher costs. You can see their recorded inspection at https://www.youtube/comwatch?v=m4RYgXHx4cM. Their employee clearly states that everything is "touch up".

Palermo Realty - Security Deposit Review from Sacramento, California

WARNING!!! DO NOT RENT FROM PALERMO REALTY!!!

This company will require an outrageous deposit with full intention of NOT returning it to you.

For example, if you were renting a condo and you do not maintain ONE OUNCE of the exterior, would you find it shocking that they would take a huge chunk of your security deposit to maintain the exterior door after you left??? This company treats renters as if they "own" the condo and do NOT accept responsibility for normal wear and tear. I was told before I moved in not to move in, but I didnt listen. Do not let this happen to you.

They NEVER maintain the ice in the winter. Everyday in the winter, you will be walking on a sheet of ice, risking your life.

Palermo Realty in Erie PA

I rent from this realty company Palermo in Erie, PA. I told them that once in awhile my boyfriend and our pet would be visiting.

Now they want a pet deposit for a pet that live in Austin Texas. How dumb is that! Or maybe it for the roaches that was living there in I moved in.

If you rent from this company beware that you may be billed for something like a pet you dont have or a broken garage door that was broken when you first moved in or just anything. I do not reckenmend this realty company to rent from.
