Ozark-Sunshine kennels/Edith Westfall Purchased a Dogue de Bordeaux puppy from her.
I found this Bordeaux breeder online. She had a litter of puppies for sale and I was looking for a female puppy. She had one left out of the recent litter. We spoke on the phone several times concerning the puppy. I finally decided to purchase the puppy from her. I sent her the money through Pay Pal in the amount of $1,000 for the puppy and $300 to have her flown to me. The day before she arrived I spoke with Mrs. Westfall and she mentioned that she thought the puppy had gotten something in her eye and she was putting ointment in it. When I picked the puppy up at the airport she didn't really look like a full blooded Bordeaux puppy. As for her eye, Mrs Westfall's veterinarian wrote on her health certificate that the puppy had Entropion in her right eye, the same eye that I was told she had gotten something in. Entropion is hereditary. Ten days after receiving the puppy she became sick, I took her to the vet where she was diagnosed with parvo. I do have other dogs which have been completely vaccinated, and were not sick. My vet told me that most likely the puppy was infected with it when she was sent to me. I confronted Mrs Westfall about the health problems the puppy had and the money that I had to spend on her in addition to her purchase price and shipping fees. I reminded her that she had a health guarantee that said she would replace the puppy or refund your money in the event they had an heriditary or congentital condition. She refused to refund my money. She wanted me to pay to have the puppy back to her and then she would give me another puppy or refund me $800 of what I had paid for the pup. I had purchased the puppy in order to breed her with my male, because she was diagnosed with entropion, I would never be able to use her for breeding without taking the chance of passing the condition on to her offspring. Mrs Westfall refused to stand behind her health guarantee and expected me to spend additional money to ship her backi to their kennel. I explained to Mrs Westfall that I had paid $1300 to get her and an additional $1000 to treat her parvo and was most likely going to have to pay to have her entropion surgically repaired. I am a breeder myself and I do not run my business in this manner. I make sure that my breeding stock are free of heriditary problems, I vaccinate all adults and puppies that are in my kennel. I do not breed dogs that have health issues and I always stand behind my health guarantee if issues should arrive with one of my puppies. I have never had this happen. I have even had repeat customers that have purchased several puppies from my kennel. I have a good reputation because I have good quality breeding stock that produce healthy offsping. This particular breeder should not be allowed to breed any dogs, she is money hungry and does not care about the quality of puppies she is producing. She obviously knows she has poor quality dogs that's why she refuses to stand behind her health guarantee. If she is allowed to continue to breed dogs then there will be more victims like me. I hope this complaint will reach potential buyers looking for a Dogue de Bordeaux breeders. Stay away from this person and her dogs!

No offense but what kind of breeding hitch do you think you will get from pages $1,000? You pay for what you get in this world. Sorry for your luck.
DO NOT BUY FROM EDITH WESTFALL! SHE TOOK MY MONEY AND LEFT MY FAMILY WITH A SICK PUPPY WHO ONLY LIVED FOR 2-1/2
YEARS AND COST US OVER $3000.
IN VET BILLS TRYING TO SAVE HER. SHE HAD A SEVERE HEART MURMUR FROM BIRTH WAS DIAGNOSED 1 DAY AFTER WE GOT HER AND EDITH YELLED AT ME CALLED ME A LIAR THEN LIED TO ME AND TOLD ME A SOB STORY ABOUT HER HUSBAND DYING RECENTLY WHICH I RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT HE HAD PASSED OVER A YEAR BEFORE! SHE SHOULD NOT BE BREEDING!! PLEASE DO NOT BUY FROM HER, SHE HAS NO INTRGRITY AAND NO MORALS!
NOBODY SHOULD PAY $1800. FOR A HEALTHY PUPPY AND GET PUT IN THE POSITION MY FAMILY WAS PUT IN!
This lady is CORRECT. I made a complaint with the Better Business Bureau on Sunshine of the Ozark.
They sent me a pup with Entropia. I sent the pup back after they refused to answer my calls and work with me. I made a complaint with my bank and PayPal and got my money back.
Poor dog but it was too much money for me to not get a healthy dog and then pay for medical expenses. Be careful folks.

Bad experience. Poor pup.
We purchased a Bordeaux in 2006 from Edith. We also had her flown to us.
When we picked her up she had runny eyes and then we found blood in her ***. It was a weekend and we were concerned it could be parvo so we took her to emergency vet and paid arm and leg and she tested positive for Giardia. We emailed Edith for refund for vet bill and she had nerve to say we should have never taken her to the vet and we should have called her on how to treat her.
She did say we could send her back but as animal lovers we were already attached. We have been lucky and our dog has been healthy since and her temperment is wonderful but we would not do business in future with Edith due to her sending a dog on a plane that was sick and then to not backing by her gurantee
This is a familiar story. We got our boy in 2007.
When we got him off the plane, he was so listless. We thought maybe he had a tough journey, but when he didn't pep up after a couple of days and had unbelievable diarrhea, we took him to the vet. He was diagnosed with such bad Giardia that it took two rounds of treatment to deal with. His stomach was never right after that.
Several weeks later, after several days of limping, we were back at the vet. X-rays and a subsequent specialist opinion showed hip dysplasia. He would need surgery to correct. I e-mailed Edith, and she replied in a very defensive manner - also suggesting that we return the dog for a refund.
(personally, although common with breeders, i find this tactic reprehensible, as I no no one who would return a puppy to a breeder after caring for them for one week, much less over a month - its simply a way for them not to have to refund money or deal with you.) Sadly, at the age of 3, our boy was diagnosed with lymphoma. He underwent chemo and went into remission for several months, but in October, 2010 the cancer returned.
On Dec 18, 2010, he could no longer fight and we had to say goodbye. I have tears in my eyes as i write this, and strongly urge people to do A LOT of research before buying from this kennel.
Also the incubation period for parvo averages four to five days. Ten days is about the max amount of time for it to show up.
This shows that IF (no vet records) your pappy had parvo that it got it after you received your puppy. Also the fact that she offered to do anything for you says a lot because the only things cover in the heath guaranty is hip and heart problems.
I have known Edith and her dogs for years. I have raised and shown my dogs in AKC for a very long time.
I am also a vet student and work in a vet's office. Edith has been a mentor to me and has went to more shows with me than I can count. She does her best to make sure that the puppies that come from her place are happy, healthy, and are going to good homes. She has never had parvo at her kennel.
If she had she would not be able to raise puppies there because parvo stays in the ground for seven years and would kill all of the puppies before they are old enough to leave. I just had my house burn down in August and she was the only person that I trusted to keep my champion male for me. He is still there till I can get house rebuilt. I talked to her today about you and what is going on.
She has offered to give you your money back if you return the puppy. You are the one that wants to keep the puppy and get your money back. It don't work that way, you can't go to any store and buy something and get your money back without returning the item. You also have not sent her any vet records to prove take there is a problem.
You are lucky she has not sued you for slander. She is not in the wrong here YOU ARE!!!
I too have a beautiful male that is 2 years old that I bought from her. Her dogs are not only healthy but beautiful. I don't believe your story.
You nor your comments are worth my time. I know what quality conformation is and the puppy that I received from Edith Westfall was so far from a prize quality, much less a pet quality!
I am the person that paid for the pup only to received a puppy with parvo and entropion in her right eye when I picked her up at the airport. Buying a puppy from her was the worst mistake that I have ever made when purchasing a puppy. If she would have offered to stand behind her health guarantee then I wouldn't have commented about her or her kennel.
You haven't seen the puppy nor were you the one that had to deal with her about the situation. So you don't have the right to make any comments concerning me, my kennel or my dealings with Edith Westfall!
