Orange Police Department - Dog Care Review from Orange, California
- - I saw a panting chihuahua in a hot car in a Wal-Mart parking lot.
- - The dispatcher said officers were busy with a collision and no help was sent.
On Friday the 13, March 2015 I parked in back of the Wal-Mart and shopping mall in Orange, California; this was at 5:45 in the evening. It was a hot day.
As I exited my car, I noticed a black Kia with tinted windows, rolled down a half inch on all of them. In the front seat there was a small chihuahua, panting and in distress. I snap a picture, and stupidly gave the owner the benefit of the doubt, and went about my shopping. When I returned, I could no longer see the pup at all.
I called the police after searching for security, and not being able to locate any. The dispatcher I talked to was unhelpful and down right rude. I requested a police officer to help me with situation and adviced her how dire it was. She told me that since the dog was no longer in sight the owners may have taken the dog for a walk, and it was cooling down so after God knows how long with being locked into a hot car, the dog would be fine.
She then rudely told me all the cops were busy with a collision. Yes, I am sure the two police cruisers illegally parked in front of the mall in the same parking lot. Good to know that Orange Police Department cares about animals!
There is no excuse not to send a officer to help a dog from dying a horrific death of hypothermia. I wonder how the dispatcher would feel if that was the reaction if she was trapped in a hot car?
