December 15 2017. From: Dennis A Reinhart.
To: BBB North East Florida. BCC:Medicare, Trichare Dispute Subject: Formal Complaint Orange Park Medical Center. These are the facts of what took place on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Orange Park Medical Center. 2001 Kingsley Ave Orange Park Fl.
I went to the Orange Park Medical Center Emergency Department on Kingsley Ave Orange Park Fl. Aproxmitley 4:PM/ I was taken back the ER where there were 4 chairs separated by a drape. All chairs faced front to the ambulance entrance doors. This was a room with 4-5 other patients with only a short curtain between each of us.
The temperature outside was 45-50 degrees and raining, the wind was blowing. Needless to say, every one in the room were blasted with freezing wind when ambulance doors opened. After running several tests and waiting 5 hours, the admitting physician came in and told me that they wanted to admit me, and assigned me to a gasstorial specialist and would be give a EGT by 2:00 PM the following day. I was in so much discomfort that I agreed.
After another hour more now a total of six hours in the ER and of freezing in that chair. There were male nurses working, one man was a Army vet, his name was Dennis very polite and caring, the other man is 225 at least six feet , his name is Todd Wimberly. I have now set here over five hours, I said to Todd, could you please find out when I am going to my room, or get some one in here to take out the IV. I am going home.
My feet are froze the room is a ice box. This man lit completely completely over reacted, he rushed my chair reached towards the IV and in anger said you want it out, I will take it out with complete sarcasm and anger. He lunged at me and reached for my arm with the IV in it, this was a total aggressive manor saying “You want it out, I’ll take it out”. My wife broke down in tears.
I pulled my arm back and told him to get away from me, or I would kicked him, which is about all I could have done to protect myself, as he was looming over me. He then said, “Well that would be assault and I have a police officer around the corner”. I told him get away from me and get me the nursing supervisor. Megan Young came in.
Mr Wimberly continued to taunt me from across the room until the she took my wife and I to another room to talk. The first thing I asked was I asked if there was surveillance in the room, she said yes but no audio. My wife told her what took place. She said she would report all that had transpired to her supervisors Jen Mick Emergency room Director, in the morning.
She then convinced me to stay as planned for testing the next day. We made it to my room around 11 pm and I was put on nothing to eat or drink after midnight in anticipation of the GI testing to be done on Friday. I waited all day, no GI doctor came in, only the admitting physician who said the GI doctor would be in around 2 pm. At 4pm I asked the nurse to find out when I was going for my tests.
At 5 pm the charge nurse came in to my room and told me that they could not reach the GI doctor and that my procedures would probably not be done until Monday or Tuesday. At this point I have had no food and nothing to drink for 17 hours. I asked to speak to the charge nurse I told the nurse that I could not lie there all weekend and she offered me a clear liquid diet. I told her I wouldn’t do that and that I was going home.
I told the nurse I have never received such terrible care as this hospital with a horrible, UNCARING staff member. And this a pattern of poor service for this hospital. The Nurse tries to talk me out of leaving. I said this was the worst episode I have ever had in a hospital, totally unprofessional charging Tricare tens of thousands of dollars for absolutely no care.
This nurse knew of the incident, two other nurses that were in the room with her they all had treated me well all day long, I told the charge nurse how I felt she said she was sorry I felt that way? That made me disgusted. As I am putting my shoes on, I said mam, take your shoes off and put your feet in my shoes, how would you feel? If I am sure you would not say I am sorry you feel that way, if it was your husband daughter or son.
You should have seen the look on the two nurses faces standing behind her. In closing, I am filing a formal complaint with South East Regional Better Business Bureau, Tricare and Medicare, as of this date NO one has called me or emailed me for Orange Park Medical Center. I am asking Medicare and Tricare to DENIES any and all payments.
Respectfully. Dennis A Reinart.
