Opt out set up unauthorised direct debit twice

Opt out called my 91 yr old father who told them to sent their leaflet Butkus daughter (me) made all his financial decisions. They sent him leaflets and a direct debit mandate and this had already be set up on his account without his knowledge or agreement.

I complained and cancelled it. Yesterday I saw they had set up another DD on my dads account but sent a letter to my mum. I phoned to complain they assured me they had spoken to my mum about this. She died 5 years ago so this was a lie.

I have cancelled the DD and informed the bank and the national CAB org that can pass this to Bournemouth trading standards. This company is preying on the vulnerable. They have dads bank details because nearly five years ago they were using another company name he bought a call blocker from them and paid by cheque. It didn't work and it took months to get a refund which the bank actually got by withdrawing it from their bank account so they can try again to set up another DD anytime.

The bank have been helpful but can't stop it happening. Kent resident

I am a certified Data Protection Practitioner specialising in the GDPR and all matters of Data Protection. OptOutUK recently sent an email to my business claiming to contain a list of individuals who should be unsubscribed/opted out/removed from mailing lists.

What they are doing is not compliant with the GDPR. For any "Data Controller" that processes your personal data, they have to ensure due diligence, meaning they need to verify the identity of the individual making that request, which they cannot do if that request comes via a third party "in bulk". If you want to stop marketing, contact the companies directly and tell them to stop. You do not have to complete any specific forms, or give any reasons and they are bound by law to cease contacting you for marketing purposes, or processing your data if you exercise your right to erasure.

All you need to do is email or telephone them and if they continue to contact you, report them to the Information Commissioners Office. You can register on TPS to stop telephone calls (though it won't stop them all, but no service will as some still feel they can break the law) and report any further calls to them.

There is no need to pay for any such suppression service. That was what the GDPR was designed to allow, free, transparent control over your personal information and its use.

Optoutuk stops your personsl info from being processed for marketing purposes, if you want to stop spam email you need to purchase anti-spam software. I for one an very satisfied with the service i got and i no longer receive junk mail or nuisance calls since i registered!

Harassment

For a long time we had been signed up to the TPS but seemed to be getting a huge number of unwanted nuisance calls. After contacting them, they said they could only stop a certain number of calls and put us on to Opt Out.

On 7 September 2012, we paid £29.99 to Opt Out and at that Opt Outtime were told that was it - a one off payment. We were told the stoppage of calls would take effect after 28 days. We dealt with a guy called Jon Howard whose email was jon@***.com, phone 0113 320* 806 and paid via Barclaycard. That did seem to work and the calls were quite minimal.

However, in 2014 onwards, these nuisance calls escalated to a very high number so we emailed Opt Out on 17 February 2015 asking that they check things and get on with the job we paid them for. We heard nothing from them but the calls did seem to peter out a bit. I got a call back and was told the first payment only lasted about 3 years and it would cost a further £44.99 so on 24 February 2015 we paid that amount and we had a very short time of fewer calls [about 4 or 5 weeks]

THEN about 6.30pm on Wednesday 28 October 2015, a phone call came which was answered by my husband. The guy asked for me and I said I'd ring back when I finished my dinner. 5 minutes later the phone rang and it was him again. I said I hadn't time to get the paperwork out and I'd ring him back the next day. He was being quite insistent, talking and kept asking for the first 12 numbers of my debit card. Of course he didn't get them. He said it was for ID purposes to prove who I was and that I was UK resident. Smells funny? Yes. I managed eventually to get off the phone. He kept saying he was trying to help me regarding all these phone calls and kept asking for my card number. Yesterday, he phoned 4 times with me telling him I would ring him when I had the time. He gave his name as Steven Cook, although from his accent, I would have though an Asian name would have been more appropriate and a phone number of 0203 129 **** which, as yet, I haven't tried to ring. Up to now today, 30 October 2015, no calls from him.

I'm debating getting Trading Standards to investigate.

Opt Out UK LTD "SCAM"

I paid £39.99 in September 2014 for 2 years cover of Level 3 service. January 2015 I start to get an unwanted call from a "Consumer Group", I try to contact "Opt Out UK LTD" to get answers regarding their "service".

I have had no replies to emails sent, I have had no "Call Back" from the company from their "Call Back" option. The 0844 number I have for them is being answered with an automated message telling me all their operatives are unavailable and to try again between the hours of 10am and 8pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. (I actually called at 10.30am, Monday!) Even the number for "Registration" is not being answered.

It rings then changes to a "Number Busy" tone. I wonder if anyone else is experiencing similar issues and would like to know what to do next!

I too paid £39.99. Service is rubbish.

Unwanted calls didn't stop.

The 'Call Blocker' gadget they sent me didn't work either, despite them sending me different connection leads to try. Rubbish scam ***.

Dont waste your money

In 2012, I signed up for this service at a fee of £29.99 for life & for full cover. About a year later, I was called, asking me to 'upgrade' for further cover for an annual fee.

I refused and when I quoted the email I had received I was told that the sales person was no longer with them. After receiving endless unwanted calls this year, I decided to investigate them, so sent a request for registration to their site. This produced a phone call back, so it's worth trying this route. I have had a long call this morning with another salesman called Jay, who now tells me that it is £39.99 for 'lifetime membership.

They can find no trace of me, so I have forwarded all emails from them back to customer services and Jay is getting back to me when he has investigated. I have told him that I have a contract for the original service and do not intend to pay again.

I am now awaiting feedback from a promised phone call, but if this does not materialise, I intend taking it further.

I wrote this 30 days ago. I'm still waiting for the promised call back.

Don't waste your money. If you do decide to pay, use your credit card. At least your CC company will listen to you and refund your money.

This is a big Scam.

Timewasting conartists

Opt-Out UK Ltd. allege that they get people off mailing lists; we received 4 official looking, but entirely bogus, emails from these clowns asking us to stop mailing 4 of their clients, who were, respectively, called "Alice Burgess", "Mark Fletcher", "Thomas Rayner", and "Richard Hickson". As we are list brokers and not list owners, we asked, in 4 separate emails, the name of the company or individual behind the offending marketing communication received by Alice Burgess/Mark Fletcher/Thomas Rayner/Richard Hickson respectively, so that we could match these with the correct list owner and forward their email accordingly.

No response whatsoever received to any of the 4 emails, so we emailed again on March 22nd, March 25th, March 27th, and again at April 8th. You guessed it...no response received to our very basic request.

Eventually, on April 20th, an acknowledgement from a Tazakiya Hussain but only to ask us to sign up for something on their site, i.e. the whole thing is a f***cking scam, and clearly NONE of our customers ever mailed Alice Burgess, Mark Fletcher, Thomas Rayner or Richard Hickson. They don't exist.

Tried to phone and complain, phone is never answered, just rings and rings and rings, and you can't even leave a f***cking message.

We've had exactly the same requests on behalf of exactly the same people!!

This is some backstreet operation, spoke to the "owner" Adam Iftikhar and all they do is send requests out to every company they manage to enter into their "database" for every client that signs up to their service.

Based on that I estimate they've had 23 people sign up this month. Must be a slow time of year for them because apparently they have "millions" of clients.
