Banned me and scammed my hard earned money

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I used to be a translator for this company for over a year. I had 5/5 rating with 8 badges, a gold translator never missed any projects.

I applied for payoneer mastercard thru onehourtranslation but didnt receive the card. I have paypal yet but the problem was my card linked to it that charge too much ($5) per withdrawal and I was working to get a new atm from other bank that allow paypal withdrawal with just $1.00 charge per withdrawal. While I was doing that I use my sister paypal account who is also a translator for onehourtranslation for over 7 years now but in August 2017 my sister and I were informed by the customer service that we need to explain why we are using the same paypal account. My sister explained regarding this and mine, too.

I explained that I am currently applying for atm waiting to deliver my card (approx 2-3 weeks) Without prior notice, they removed my earnings request amounting to $274 and asked me to send them my photo holding an ID, I sent them my photo but they already banned me within 2 days of notice . I still have pending payment amounting to over $600 over all around $900 that I worked for them for over a month. I kept on contacting them even the CEO but they ignored me.

They were treated me badly despite my good standing in the company and explaining my side. There is a simple way to solve this issue just link my paypal but they banned me and got my hard earned money

WATCH OUT! They overestimated the word count on my documents.

I'm not talking one or two words. I'm talking 80 words more in a 340 word document. First, they said my estimation was only 30 words off, which already made me suspicious, but I went ahead and paid. Then they said that there are another 80 words missing.

Nice trick! They do that so they can refund you in their OHT Cash afterwards which can only be used for their OHT services, which pretty much means money gone when you need only one translation. Happened to me now for the second and last time. Their customer service is even worse.

Instead of reevaluating after I told them the exact word count, they insisted in support their company's dishonesty and fraud. Don't even bother.

Cheated me with their "bespoke quote" for "exotic" English translation

I needed a large translation and I didn't want to pre-pay by credit card, so I got in touch with the sales manager. My innitial quote was $0.09 for general translations on the instant quote online but after I submitted the file, they quoted me $0.18 per word and that sounded a bit too steep, so I had to get back to them with another question: "Why has the price doubled?

I said "general translation" not "expert"." So came OHT's reply: "Yes, this is the rate for general translation as this combination is rather exotic and we only have a few translators for that one." This excuse really made my day. Hilarious! Funny!

Who actually wants to be fooled like that? A translation into English from another European language would be "exotic" and required a higher rate!

SCAM COMPANY!!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

They happily took my money, but when they didn't provide a translation and I asked for a refund, they refused. I had to fight with them by email and by phone, and rather than refunding me the $23 I spent on a translation I never got, they responded over and over that the translation had been done, and even admitted that it could have been due to technical issues on their side -- and STILL refused to refund me!!

HORRIBLE, DISHONEST *** ARTIST COMPANY!!! BEWARE!!

Onehourtranlation is blocked my account based on review of other translators

Onehourtranlation is blocked my account based on review of other translators. This behavior is totally unacceptable and unfair.

They do not any warning about anything but suddenly ended my service. Although I've tried to contact with support team they do not care about. This company is telling lie. They are dishonest and do not care about their translators and customers.

No one deserves that kind of behavior. I advice freelancer to avoid such a bad company. You can join say-hello.com instead.

Now the workflow is less but at least there's a respect for human. So be careful about onehourtranslation and its dishonest approach...

Fast service but terrible quality

I submitted one document for translation from English to French because our regular translation service was unable to do the job as quickly as needed. With my limited French, even I could see the translation provided by one hour translation was full of errors.

I sent the translated document to another translator for evaluation, and they said the translation was very poorly done... as if it has been done by an online auto translator like bing. Many of the translated sentences made no sense at all and there were numerous spelling and grammatical errors. I had to have the document re-translated by my regular translator.

I have complained and asked for a refund, but have not had an appropriate response yet. Will NOT be using them again.

One Hour Translation is unfair and dishonest!

I have worked for more than 7 years as a translator at One Hour Translator. The pay is terrible and we were forced to complete the translations within a very short time period.

This means that if there was an especially difficult project, us translators avoided taking it on because if we failed to deliver the project on time, this would permanently ruin our translator profile and this leads to less work! Recently, I was banned from OHT because I was assigned a transcription project that I had 24 hours to complete, however I was not warned of the strong Indian accent that the man who was speaking had and so I contacted the support team for help! OHT was very late in responding to my 3 pleads for help and so I assigned one of the transcription files to another translator by myself! The quality of the other translator was disgraceful!

If I was a client and I got a transcription like that, I would never ever use OHT again! When I wrote to the OHT support team telling them about the hundreds of mistakes in the project and the delay in completing the project, I was banned from being a translator at OHT, due to me violating their terms and conditions!

My reputation as a translator was BRILLIANT and I had many exclusive clients! I think that there are many other translation agencies that are fair and honest, however One Hour Translation is not one of them!

Really Poor Quality Translation

My fiancee is Persian and I was writting a letter to his parents. I wanted to save him the time of having to translate the letter for me.

However, the translation was so poor (said "document" instead of "documentary", said "I'll be waiting for your presents" instead of "I appreciated getting your presents", etc.) that my fiancee had to spend over 5 hours translating it for me so that my meaning was accurately conveyed in Persian. I wonder if the translator simply used an automated translation system? If so, I could have just done that with Google Translate myself and gotten my fiancee to fix it for free.

This was the biggest waste of $100 that I've ever spent. I definitely won't use this service again, nor will I recommend it to anyone.

More like 28 Hour Translation - So Sick of This Website

They exceed my expectations in terms of turnaround about 50% of the time, but they hardly ever turn around small orders within an hour. The other half of the time they take way to long, as in more than 24 hours, and we often have to end up cancelling our order.

There quality is also average. There's typically a lot of English errors and oversights. There's no consistency with this service.

We only use them when we're in a pinch, and it's almost becoming too inconsistent to keep them around as a backup. There customer service will act like they really care, but they hardly ever get an order expedited. It's literally like rolling the dice with these people.

Credit being taken, Account being blocked with no proof of mistakes done

I have been collaborating with One Hour Translation for many years without any issue until lately. In Oct 2016, I received a bcc email without directly address to me, mentioning that they terminate the collaboration dues to 'quality issues' on projects that I were working on some 6 months ago which were accepted and paid.

Then my contact is blocked. I sent several email to request for further clarification was were all replied with a very cold and standardised email from the customer service personnel without telling and proofing any specific details on which and what exactly mistakes were that render this serious 'punishment'. What is more shocking, credits earned from other projects were silently removed from my account without any explanation and notice. I feel like being robbed in my bank account.

This is very immoral and not ethnic at all. It has no different than a dirty job done a robber or pirate! I have tried to send my query several times, but that does not yield me any clarification on this and I guest my emails was just blocked.

I have been doing translation for 19 years with few works published. This action from One Hour Translation is a humiliation and their professionalism is yet to be questioned.

The same thing happened to me in 2017. I had a 9.6 customer rating and was regularly tapped for complex medical and non-medical translations.

I was kicked out because I was "rude" after they repeatedly harangued me to take a translation despite my complaint that the word count was wildly off (800 vs. 8,000 words).

I received 8-10 phone calls and 20+ emails per day for 3 days in a row and asked them (politely) to stop as I would not be taking the translation until they updated the word count to ensure proper compensation. They blocked my account on the spot.

Guest

I spent so many hours for "OneHourTranslation" with unpaid free reviews, helping translators to improve their paid translations, I gained points to move up to rank 18, for a short time even to rank 12 but then thousands of point would have been required to move up another step thus I slit down to rank 18 again and received less priority projects. Although my customer ratings were often 10/10 or at least good, and my internal rating never went below 4.5/5 within my 5 years at OHT, I received a notice with an apparently faked review by a fake "Language Leader" that was as destrutive as possible, also a review of an older translation that was not a customer complaint, but still not below a rating of 6/10, which would still be sufficient and not a reason to fire me immediately.

I can only warn other translators not to run into the same trap and believe in all the badges and perks, and offer free peer reviews to OHT only for the expectation of more work.

I can only warn customers not to buy at this Online Agency as they obviously exploit and scam both customers and freelancers .

The schizoid approach to call themselves the "best translation agency" and call naive and obedient freelancers "Elite Translators" only to cajole themselves a little bit, and at the same time make things worse by bad treatment of freelancers and fooling customers.

This company has become too powerful and abusive therefore people should simply stop supporting this any longer.

I received the same treatment after I complained in September 2016. They banned and kicked out some of the best translators they had.

Lovely website but they fail to live up to their promises

At 10.30am I submitted a 100 word document in Portuguese to be translated to English. As it was a legal document I requested this service. I paid up front and included a note stating I needed the translation by 12.30. This seemed reasonable as they advertise a one hour translation service. After not hearing anything for 2 hours I contacted them to be told I needed to pay more money as names were included in the words to be translated. I paid this and waited another hour. I contacted them again and include here a copy of the "live chat" conversation:

Please wait for a site operator to respond.

You are now chatting with 'Lori'

Lori: Hello and welcome to One Hour Translation, my name is Lori, how may I help you today?

Adrian: I am contacting you again re #324****.

Adrian: I am still waiting for this translation.

Lori: Please note that our Support Team is actively working on getting your project started as soon as possible. Also, kindly note that most of our English translators live in the US, so as the working day in the US just started so should your translation.

Lori: We will follow up closely and update you as soon as it starts.

Adrian: You told me that this would be started an hour ago when you had payment for extra words. Also your website advertises a one hour turnaround, not one hour turnaround to suit the USA.

Lori: Once a translator starts working it takes about an hour to translate a 200 words page, and around 2000 words per day.

Lori: A translator usually starts working within an hour during business hours in his country.

Adrian: The document is portuguese and you have translators based in Portugal. This is on the same time as the UK.

Adrian: If your service is USA specific you should advertise it as such and NOT advertise your services in the UK.

Lori: Please note that most of our English translators live in the US.

Adrian: Does your company have an office in the UK?

Lori: Our offices are located in Cyprus and New-York City.

From this it is very clear that the service they provide is NOT what the advertise. Translators are based in the USA, translations only take place during USA working hours and translators start work during the first hour of the working day!

1. Took 14 months to respond so about par for the company.

2.

"You took into consideration only your needs". Would all prospective users of this company take note that this is how their employees regard their clients.

Obviously this company has never heard of the concept that the best way to grow your business is to look after your biggest asset - your customers!

If anyone wants proof that they should think twice about using this company then re-read the comments of their employee posted below.

I apologise for the angry face... I just meant a sad face... didn't know how this site displays the emoticons...

I work as a translator here... I am sorry, but I have o disagree with you.

A translation starts as soon as a translator is available. This means an hour turnaround. This is an online platform, where translators take the projects as they arrive and when the translators are actually available. They may be busy with other projects or they may be resting at that hour.

Also, if you wanted a translation from Portuguese to English, only an English translator is allowed to perform such a translation because, for the sake of professionalism, it is preferable to have such translations performed by translators that are native in the target language. With all due respect, your complaint is not founded.

You took into consideration only your needs and didn't think of the translators that do need time to sleep and eat and actually have a life from time to time. :(

One Hour Translation - Received a thoroughly unfair client rating for a proofreading!
One Hour Translation - Received a thoroughly unfair client rating for a... - Image 2

I received a thoroughly unfair client rating for a proofreading (1/5)!!!!! I have never received such a rating since joining the site as a Translator and Proofreader.

I am also a Gold Translator and have never received such a rating for a translation, no less for a proofreading! The translation I corrected was terribly written, there were mistakes everywhere. I corrected the translation into the best possible English, also realizing that one of the sentences at the bottom did not make much sense! I therefore omitted one word, still allowing the sentence to make full sense in English.

As a result and to my horror....the client rated me 1/5 because they didn't like the way I changed that one short sentence at the bottom, completely ignoring the rest of the document! My overall rating plummeted as a result! Whoever this client is, they just repeated the sentence I had provided in their comment that came to my e-mail and put a bunch of ?????? and !!!!

at the end! I contacted OHT about this explaining my case and requesting that my rating be taken back to what it was, a 4.8 instead of a current 4.6 out of 5!!!! However, I have had no response and it seems that I am being completely ignored!

This site does not respect its translators. I have attached both the source translation and my proofreading to this complaint.

Something similar happened to me: in my 3 years of membership as certified translator I received the first unfair rating from a steady client who never rated me before. In this case he rated 2/5 without any explanation.

He never answered my questions and comments to please contact me and take back the bad rating. This is really bad and unprofessional behaviour.

I contacted onehourtranslation´s translator´s support and even quality control and asked them to please look into the matter, but never received any reply.

This is bad and unprofessional behaviour as well! :eek

I understand that well. I am sad to see that others experience this too but with so many translators and clients out there, and a quality control team and translation site that is quite impersonal with most services, or rather "too professional", it seems inevitable to me.

You took the same actions I did to the same reaction and lack of a response from the client. I also got the same treatment from quality control and support. One friendly word of advice: note down the user names of clients who abuse your services and watch out for them. I started doing that ages ago and it rarely gets me into unnecessary trouble with rude people anymore.

I wouldn't even take their projects if they specifically asked me to.

Good luck and keep going! :)

This is not true... I work there, too, and any time I had a complaint about a customer rating, my translation being entirely correct, I had that rating changed to 5/5 (three times, in 5 years of membership)...

if your complaint would be true and you would really not deserve the rating, a lot more translators would be here complaining... but there are only two...

One Hour Translation-- 1 hour is a lie!

I was told that my job would start in 1 hour from placing it. It is now 4-1/2 hours. Not started. Less than 100 words.

Spoke to online support 2x. Was told that they will prioritize me.

They said to call.

I called. No one there no--answering service. Office hours are 9-9 Israel time. Not really practical for me as it's 1am in Israel and 6pm here.

I chose them because they were supposed to be fast.

Did they choose another job ahead of mine because mine was small and cheap? Do they not have enough translators?

The name is ONEHOURTRANSLATION.com

They are not

Ignored Me, Disrespected Me, And the End, Blocked Me.

www.onehourtranslation.com promises a fast, quick translation service. They provide service to many business around the world.

Well there is no doubt in my mind that they cater to those businesses very well. However, they treat their lower end customers like me with disrespect. I submitted two projects and paid for both in full. Instead of a fast, one hour translation, the projects were started SIX hours after submission and payment, and that was only after several hours of me attempting to contact customer service.

When I was not satisfied with the low-quality of the translation, and pointed out the issues I had with the translation, they simply ignored me, until I was forced to send a multitude of emails. Then their VP of customer service gave me a call, and told me that I had been given the best service they had to offer.

He then said that he would refund all my projects as long as I stopped using their service. I was happy to quit and leave this piece of junk translation service.

False advertising is what One Hour Translation is all about. They are small, local company outsourcing their work to uneducated foreign-based translators. Your documents are shared with people around the world and OHT claims they do it all in-house.

Guest

"Nothing to excuse?" Poor customer service, false advertising, inconsistent results, and there's "nothing to excuse?" And now we should just "admire the entrepreneurs for starting such a complex business?" I wonder what Gerd's reaction would be if he went to a restaurant and found a hair in his food. Would he keep "admiring entrepreneurs" then?

As any translator has the option to register with onehourtranslation and is only checked by an exam which is proofed by his fellow colleagues (disregarding their qualification) it is kind of lottery if the client receives a good or poor translation in the end.

There are also many translators in this company who pretend to be native speakers, but they are definitely not.

Onehourtranslation neglects all this as they don´t seem to be capable to manage over 10000 translators and only employ a very small amount of people who are overwhelmed with the requirements of assuring professional quality...So, if you are a new client of this agency, it will be a lottery, if you are longterm client, you may already have picked some "preferred" translators you can rely on. I had some very disappointing experiences with poor translations who had to be corrected a few times. So in the end it does not really save you money to choose the "cheapest" solution.

Did you select the expert rate? How long was the translation?

Translators at One Hour Translaion are required to provide a copy of a degree before they are accepted. Translations are reviewed by peers AND internally by the One Hour Translation staff.

One Hour Translation is faster than any other service, but is run by humans. In translation, speed will inevitably have an effect on quality, and there is no workaround for this, even with the assistance of automation tools, because of the quirks of language, the specifics of a each project and the creative element, as well.

Yet no other company will offer a higher level of quality in a faster turnaround than One Hour Translation.

Your projects just might not be attractive to the top translators working at OHT, who are often the same translators working at Proz.com, Gengo and for numerous other agencies...

If you want the cream of the crop, pay $0,20 a word and give a human translator a normal turnaround, at least 1 business day, for any job, or develop a long term business relationship with an agency or a translator, and start enjoying perks over time.

Guest

I have just attempted to use OHT. The first few times, things were great.

Then they went downhill quickly. I received a translation that did not make any sense at all. It was like a bunch of jumbled English juxtaposed with no rhyme or reason. The translator had had an emergency, and asked for an additional 24 hours to do the translation which I granted but even then the result was poor.

The next submission I asked to have the prior translator since I knew that translator does quality work. But they didn't let me know that this translator was not available for 4 days!! and I waited, and called and waited and emailed. Then they decided to break the file into small pieces and I was berated by one of the translators for asking too much.

It has been an uphill battle for certain. I think there is a place for a service like this, but they have some serious tweaking to do to their business model and customer service as well as efficiency of their website, etc.

There are a few good translators if you can grab them. :cry

Guest

I agree that there are good, qualified translators on the website. I know one personally, and she is a wonderful and extremely talented Russian translator, but she told me that people of her skill are only assigned to projects of big companies or large think tank researchers, not to simple individual customers like me. So there you have it.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-567572

Freelance translators at OHT are free to choose the projects they wish to work on. An expert translator will have a tendency to gravitate towards larger projects paid at a premium rate.

One Hour Translation has a normal rate and a premium rate. If you choose the normal rate, you might not be matched with the best available translator. Projects will also sometimes get dodged if they are poorly written in the source language, which the client is usually not aware of, but happens quite often. Since OHT has set up a peer review system and also reviews documents internally, experienced translators will be careful to only take on projects in fields they are specialized in and that are well written to begin with.

Clients also sometimes send in very short "translations" where they actually expect to have brand names or slogans translated for penny's in half an hour.

As qualified professionals (degree required at OHT) it is a translator's duty direct these clients to advertizing agencies. Business is a two way street and no machine can do a translator's job.

Guest

I am an experienced German Translator and I have been happy to provide thousands of translations through onehourtranslation.com to clients all over the world.

From my own experience I can only conclude that other freelancers may also be share positive experiences working for OHT Ltd. and so the online translation service has the best prerequirements in order to be attractive for professional translators.

It has come to my attentions that the CEO is a a graduate of ISEAD Paris, one of the best business schools in the world. So I doubt that there is any good reason to allege that onehourtranslation.com would not be professional.

However as any customer opinion is important to us, I regret to hear that the customer above was not happy.

Due to the fact that over 10,000 transators have signed up on onehourtranslation.com, normally translation jobs are picked up within an hour depending upon the availability of professionals working with the requested language pair(s). It is certainly the quickest online translation service and thus I cannot understand the complaint. Most other online translation services reserve at least 48h turnaround time, so the complaint about 6h "delay" sounds a little bit unreasonable.

Last but not least, please note that the average production capacity for a translator is approx. 5-10 pages a day, which equals to a volume of approx. 2000 to 3000 words, so one could not expect to have a large translation back within an hour only, as all translations are performed by real translators and not with instant translation tools.
